Check out the singing basics wiki. You can damage your voice or create bad habits by trying to teach yourself, so if you're serious about singing always try to find a good voice teacher.

What r u guys doing to control the airflow when u sing to have a powerful sound also when going higher
(cause on yt no one explains it and i cant afford a teacher)
This is a genuine question. Seems like most posts are by people asking others IF they can sing or not. And a lot of covers are done by amateurs with no technique learned. I was hoping this would be a place for actual singers who have honed their craft and have a vocal coach.
So once u inhaled and wanna sing high or powerful or both should the belly go out more like the inhaling movement or is this wrong ?
Hi, I'm fairly new to singing and have had four lessons so far. I just wondered if anyone had any good resources or videos for things I can do to practise in between. I've had a look on this subreddit of other people asking and a lot of the advices to 'get lessons', which I'm having currently 😊
Things I've tried: Yousician App - good, but there's a lot of male/ rock songs on there which don't suit my (female) voice Pitch monitor app - good but I don't really know how to use it properly YouTube videos - useful for technique, I've tried 'Ramsey Voice Studio', 'Singeo' and 'Healthy Vocal Technique'.
I think it's the breathing that I struggle with when I try and do the expanding of the chest and letting my stomach go in, I'm concentrating so hard on this, I end up tensing a lot. Also I need to be better at projecting my voice and being on pitch because I can often sound off because I'm singing so quietly and using head voice unintentionally
I just started singing. I practice 30-45 minutes everyday, since a month and a half. I already watch videos, do exercises like warming up, breathing exercises, scales, singing speed and lip-sync. I'm working hard to improve and I can tell that my voice is already more powerful, compared to the first few weeks and I also notice that I can sing a little bit higher and lower as well. It's getting easier, but I know that I have a lot of work to do and I want to ask for more tips and tricks.

I’ve been mostly shy about singing for most of my life, relegated to the idea that my vocal range is limited and since I can’t sing most of the songs played today, I shouldn’t much consider singing as a hobby or an outlet. This changed in recent months/past year and I’ve been in love with going out to karaoke and singing my heart out, especially in ballads/sad/love song kinda vibe where I can pour my emotions out and get a depth in my singing that I otherwise can’t.
However, I realize my voice is in the Baritone range, and it’s tough obviously. Without the high range of a tenor nor the strong power of a bass, I feel like I’m outclassed. I however have found solace in two contemporary artists whose music styles and voices I absolutely adore and love and happen to be baritones; Lewis Capaldi and Joji. I think with Joji I can try to imitate his inflection and style with enough practice and range adjustments/practice, but I found it incredibly hard to sing Lewis Capaldi songs (despite his songs being my favorite to sing).
A great example can be found in one of his imho underrated songs I found recently, “grace”.

You can hear his soft deep voice going low, almost soft with a hint of breathiness. He then begins the chorus by belting out “Im not ready to be just another of your mistakes”, whose notes I can hit (with difficulty, its reaching the far end of my vocal range), but my head voice seems to be flat and breathy while his is strong, grounded, textured in a good way. I imagine he pushes some of his chest voice with his head voice, which I have no idea how to. He’s obviously a talented singer that works hard, and I cant compare to his talent, but I want to learn how to sing my high notes with strength like his.
To the Baritones in this subreddit, would you give a new singer some advice? Thank you!
I post yt cover videos. One of which is Talking to the Moon- Bruno Mars but Ik I suck at singing and well playing the guitar too. I feel my voice is too constrained and maybe I'm also a little tone deaf.
Any advice on to clear my voice?
It's pretty crowded where i live and i can't seem to find a place to open my voice and practice singing without disturbing others. How do people manage that?
Whenever I sing in my head it sounds ok but on recording my voice sounds comically bad. Which I know is normal but at the same time it’s kinda jarring especially with how shaky it sounds, and I’ve been listening to recordings of my voice quite a bit for the last couple months and haven’t really got used to the dissonance is there anything I could try or…
I want to know how differently everyone experiences resonance. Someone once told me where they feel vibrations in chest voice and I actually found my proper resonance. I’m kind of hoping this will maybe help me experience more. Idk lol. I know it’s subjective but ya never know I guess.
Im preparing for a solo musical theater performance in 2 weeks! I really like the song but things are kinda going very wrong 😭😭😭😭 I'll spare the details to keep it short. My house is not big. It's easy to hear someone talking on the other side of the house, with the light exception of the porch, which could work, but I need volume :( i am understandably stressed. Usually you're supposed to practice on your own and check in every once in a while, but I feel like I've been requesting help too much.
does anyone have any passive tips I could use to strengthen my voice? Humming exercises?
