I am very much learning the bagpipes…any idea on where to play in city and practice with out bothering everyone around me haha?
I thought about parks but don’t want to ruin others relaxation, same with my apartment (during reasonable hours of course) OR am I just over complicating it?
This is the shooter https://missionlocal.org/2025/01/cheasarack-chong-shooting-suspect-struggled-with-mental-illness-family-says/
On Jan 27 he shot up the dispensary Vapor Room (is a dispensary tho) wounding the owner severely and then walked into an apt complex nearby and was shot dead by cops after a four hour standoff and subsequent gunfight.
I’m looking to visit SF in May from the UK. My travel agent has offered me a hotel called the Axiom just off Market Street but I’m hearing bad things about the surrounding area (Tenderloin?).
The trip advisor review for the hotel are excellent, but does anybody on here have any idea of what it’s like for safety of the surrounding area? I’ll be travelling alone.
I’ve also been recommended staying in Nob Hill. Which would you choose?
Thanks!

Not judging the city, or shitting on it. Im just looking for 100% honesty. Are the car break ins really that prevalent?
Where I live on the North Side of Chicago, this isn't really something we deal with alot. I haven't heard of anyone here actually having this issue. Never seen broken glass. No friends have had this happen here. And people def dont leave notes on their cars here.
someone arguing with fare checkers and refusing to let them check the back of the bus to scan someone thst didn'r pay. they accused the person that interferrance with muni fare checkers doing their job is worthy of a kidnapping charge, but i've only ever known fare checkers to be pretty lazy at their job. is this person likely to be in trouble with sfpd?
Would like to support causes with my dollar
I'm finishing up dry January today and I would like to have a nice whiskey next to a fireplace while it rains tomorrow.
Are there any fireplaces in San Francisco I can accomplish this at? I.e. hotels, bars, etc..
Is this some kind of astroturf PR campaign for the city?

partner and i are planning our first trip to san francisco the weekend of february 14-17th. looking for any recommendations, especially for date nights/couples stuff! Also planning on staying at a hilton but currently deciding which one. We were initially really interested in the Union Square/Parc55 one but saw a lot of negative reviews on here about them (regarding surrounding areas). We will also be driving, so we’ll have a car.
Some things we are interested in doing: Fort Point / Golden Gate Bridge Chinatown Muir Woods
Thank you!

I swear there so many movies in the 90's that took place in San Francisco. Just off the top of my head; Mrs. Doubtfire, The Rock, So I married an axe murderer, sister act 2, pacific heights, and The Room. Not to mention full house and Dharma & Greg.
The planet of the apes reboot is the only movie I can think about that took place here.
Did SF have better PR in the 90's or is the movie industry non-existent here now?
Edit: As mentioned below, a lot what's been mentioned are reboots or from of established franchises. A movie like The Rock uses the city more as a character as opposed to a backdrop.
Some of the movies mentioned like Milk do that but I'm not gonna give Godzilla, planet of the apes, or any of the marvel movies that credit.
I mean, I can't think of another local-ish filmmaker other than Ryan Coogler.
We really needed this.
My favorite rain activity is drive around the city eating a premium morning pastry and listen to 91.1 jazz.
Why didn't anyone correct me when I asked if it's gonna go for 2 weeks.
I called 311, I called the non-emergency police line, went to the police stations, asked on this sub, everyone told me that we gonna have 2 weeks! of super loud fireworks non-stop like we had in the first 2 days.
Nope, all quiet here now. I don't have any issues with 2 days (i mean, ideally it's one day)! But y'all got me all worked up...
does anyone know of any salons i can get highlights for under $200?
I’m thinking about moving to SF and want to see if I’d like it. I’m currently renting a room in a 2 BR in downtown Santa Barbara with another 28 y/o girl who works from home. Looking to exchange for at least 2 weeks maybe 3 or 4, starting whenever. If anyone is interested let me know!
