I take the san mateo bridge to work a few times a week and typically getting off work i am usually faced with a 50min+ commute. Today it was 36 according to google with minimal traffic and i could attest to it. I checked other common routes such as 880, 101, 280, 680 and all seem abnormally uncongested. Is there some big event im not invited to?
I know I know its the bay area and peoples driving skills are water soluble.
But for fucks sake you are adults(mostly). Its so goddamn simple to turn your lights on so people can see you better when its this stormy.
I don't expect much from bay area drivers. Turn signals are a rare sight, following traffic laws is a day dream, speeding is rampant, people cut you off left and right cus they are the most important person on the road.
So with the mentality of you being the most important person on the road do yourself and everyone else a favor and turn on your motherfucking headlights when its dark and rainy.
I know driving responsibily is a HUGE ask from bay area drivers. But maybe give it a try. Just today, you might like it.
Not trying to sell tickets!
I accidentally bought a ticket to the wrong show for Gianmarco and want to give away/pay what you can for somebody. It's the SF 7pm show on Feb 6th at Punchline. Hoping this sub doesn't take it down :)
Have a friend who bought a house during the pandemic/wfh back when he could work remotely and would come in to the office once a week.
Now he's being forced back with a commute that'll be over an hour each day 5 days a week and while there are certainly others who have it worse it's going to be a huge pain.
He's also married and they're a one car household which worked because they were able to share the car fairly easily.
So now they're forced to get another car so she's not stranded at home daily, or potentially rent out their house and move closer to work--or just brave out the commute (most likely).
Anyone else considering moving or switching positions or will RTO be the reality again?
Looking to do a full remodel/renovation, likely a complete tear down and adding 500 sq ft.
Currently paying taxes only on an assessed value of $300,000 but homes in the area are valued at $1.5-2mil
Is it safe to say i'm going to lose my property tax payment of $4800 and be prepared to pay $24K-32K annually just on property tax?
I posted about my recent dismay over my January bill here: https://www.reddit.com/r/bayarea/comments/1igayeq/utilities_question_in_your_experience_is/
I called PGE today to ask some questions. 3 separate times I was "connected to a representative" only to hear white noise and for them to hang up. Plus when I checked my PGE account today, I could no longer access my hourly energy use breakdown. I'm not saying there's a conspiracy, but wtf that is weird.
Is there some trick to getting to talk to a human at PGE?
Looking for places in South Bay preferably.
Looking for a place as on par as Ji Rong Peking Duck in SoCal.
Looking for a Honda shop that still deals with 90s Hondas. Been having idle issues for the longest. I gave a shot at it and nothing. Took it to a shop and basically took $1000 from me and fixed nothing tried to give it another go but still no luck and now more stuff needs to be fixed. I know it might cost me more than what the car is worth but this things held me down for so long and I want to keep it going for as long as I can. That being said anyone know of a good shop preferably in the South Bay but open any. Thanks in advanced
I’ve noticed homelessness is much less visible in Mountain View and Cupertino compared to San Jose. Is it just wealth, or are there better policies/programs in place?
As a San Jose resident, it’s frustrating to see so many struggling on our streets. What can we do to push the city to act? Are there orgs to support, policies to advocate for, or ways to get involved?
Would love to hear thoughts or ideas. Thanks!
I think we tend to complain about our experiences with mega corps and stay silent when things go well. I see some questions about internet provider choices so I thought I would post a good experience.
I used to use Comcast cable internet. It was horrible. Would drop at least once a month, usually for just a few minutes but sometimes for hours at a time. A few years ago I moved and AT&T fiber was available at the new address so I gave them a shot.
Up until now I had not experienced any downtime that was not fixed using their app based troubleshooting tool which is basically turn it off, turn it back on, and they automatically run some tests. Last week the internet went down and the troubleshooting tool failed for the first time. Through the app I was able to book a service appointment same day. The tech showed up 2 hours later and quickly confirmed the socket I was plugged into in the AT&T box for my neighborhood died. He replaced it and less than an hour after he arrived I had internet again. Total it was less than 4 hours after I opened the app to start the process. I was not charged anything for the repair.
This is about as well as you can expect it to go. I was very impressed.
Hey does anyone know if Ernie’s Liquor in San Jose or Palo Alto is any good? Lmk
I have a 2001 A4 Quattro. I had a mechanic in San Mateo that was amazing, he did a custom lift job to make the car more off-road capable. He closed up shop a year or two ago and I’m looking for someone to replace him. Any recommendations?
I’m just looking for any advice since I want to switch careers, and thank you in advance :)
My apartment complex doesn't allow oil changes in the parking garage. I'm looking for a parking lot or street where it's cool for me to do my own oil change. Preferably in the Fremont, Newark or Union City area.
Alternatively, any suggestions for a mechanic that would let me bring in my own oil and filter and just pay for labor.

I'm a writer for homes.com working on a profile of Bay Point. Anyone willing to talk to me about the community and share your name? Thanks for considering!
I regularly see people take this exit on the far right that bypasses the toll booths. It appears to be a bus lane for mass transit, but I have never seen anyone pulled over for taking it. Have/do you take(n) it?
I don't visit RWC often but was pleasantly surprised to see a Black History Museum (and Learning Center) there: Domini Hoskins Black History Museum and Learning Center - Home
They own their building (a former "Cost Plus World Market")! It's downtown, a block from Caltrain and kitty-corner from the library: 890 Jefferson Ave, Redwood City, CA 94063
It's $15 entry. There is a TON of stuff there. A colleague called it "a menagerie". One woman seems to have collected most of it over time. It's not the Smithsonian or the Louvre, but it's worth a 30-minute visit. I'm sure they could also use your support.
I've been calling all over, and so far the only place I've found is Moore Newton in San Leandro, and I was hoping to find something closer or cheaper (or both).
Anyone have any leads?
Looks like a garbage truck ejected burning trash on highway 17 a little after 7 am near Lexington Reservoir. I left at 8:15 AM from Aptos, currently haven’t made it off 17 and it’s 11:00 AM. My friend who left a bit before me snapped this pic.
I've been looking for super oooey goooey chocolate-y brownies and it's been surprisingly hard to find them. Any suggestions? East Bay would be ideal.
I had my electric panel replaced (permitted), which required the weatherhead to be moved. My contractor didn't explain well at the time, but because of 4+ month delays by PG&E, he unhooked and hooked up the weatherhead without PG&E coming out.
Now they've sent me warning about this with a phone number. When I try to call in they just ask for me to put down a $3,500 deposit and won't tell me anything about what happens next.
Has any been through addressing this issue and what it took in terms of cash/time?
