I mean, reasonably secure. If someone breaks into our church with larceny on his mind I know that no cheap cabinet lock is stopping him. But I'd like to keep the honest people honest and keep kids from playing with the equipment.
Basic cabinet locks I've found, but for that top I'd want a lock cam with a hook and matching strike which could be mortised into that hinged top panel, and so far I'm drawing a blank. Any tips?
FYI, So yesterday I needed to cut 2 keys for a Smart Fortwo 451. Apparently the Xhorse Dolphin has a problem with these, first it cut the key Reverse, then it cut the key correctly at least it looked correct but it was off center so the key did not work. I ended up using my manual duplicator to do them correctly. Just something to keep in mind if you see these and you have this machine. Of course they were customer blanks so I had to cut and shape heads on steel test keys to fit into their remotes.
My door automatic lock does not open or shut. It got bent. What’s the fix?
I dropped my only key for my Mitsubishi Triton and it's locked at work it's safe but gonna have to move it eventually just wondering what sort of price I'm up for, for someone to get in and cut and new key for it.
Sorry if this isn't the place to post but just trying to get an idea.
Hi all
Homeowner here. Im currently installing L9453. Ive reviewed the L series service manual to do the installation. Having a problem however. The outside lever is always locked.
The description in the L manual states.
L9453 is Entrance lock
Latchbolt is retracted by knob/lever from either side unless outside is locked by 20° rotation of turn piece. Deadbolt is thrown or retracted by 90° rotation of turn piece. When locked, key outside or knob/lever inside retracts deadbolt and latchboltsimultaneously. Outside knob/lever remains locked until turnpiece is returned to vertical position. Throwing deadbolt automatically locks outside knob/lever. Auxiliary latch deadlocks latchbolt when door is closed. Inside knob/lever is always free forimmediate exit
Additionally I opened case to remove some wood shavings. I tried to blow them out which embedded them further. So I carefully removed and replaced the pieces via the exploded diagram in the service manual. Perhaps not carefully enough.
Clearly I dont know how to use the edit feature either.
Thanks for all willing to help me
I've looked up a bunch of videos about how to shorten a cylinder tail- but they all assume the tail is notched. Is it possible to cut a tail that isn't scribed, just using normal diy tools, or do they need special tools like a dremel or side cutter?
Having issue duplicating this emergency key from a Mazda cx9. I’m unable to clamp it properly due to the gap near the shoulder. Any suggestions? Thanks !
I’m want to replace my worn out brass front door knob and deadbolt from the 1980s, long overdue. I’ve been looking at the more current style handle sets (with handle and thumb latch) and found a few I really like online.
When I went to look at them in person at Lowe’s, they were HUGE. With many in that style, my thumb could barely reach to release the latch. There was some variation in the distance between the handle and thumb pull, but only a couple, and the overall handle was still big. (And my hands aren’t small).
Any recommendations for some styles or makers that run smaller? I’m dreading the thought of combing through zillions of measurements.
Thanks in advance!
I am renting a new place and the apartment has the strangest key I have ever seen.
I tried Googling and looking at images and couldn't find anything similar. The door opens just by pushing the key in and the way I can describe it it seems like a "bar chart" :D
What type of look is this? Is it any good?
Thank you in advance!
I bought a set of 6 miniature luggage locks to secure the zippers on 3 pieces of luggage. The problem is... each lock has it's own unique set of keys while all six locks look exactly identical. It's a huge pain in the ass figuring out which key goes to which lock.
So here's my question... does anyone know where i can get a set of six small luggage padlocks that all use the same key?
Looks like there is a piece of metal preventing me to access further parts of the lock and it won't move when I insert my tools.
Ive had experience with thieves getting past my Kwikset lock on an old place, rented a new place where they have Defiant on the storage lockers - someone got my stuff in there too. Apparently equally crappy? Do they use a bump key on those too?

I have a door where I'd like to install a door closer on the pull side. I've been looking up installation videos online and most of them show a 'standard installation' type where, on the inside, the door and door frame are flush with one another. However in my building the door frame protudes quite a bit and there's a 6 inch depth difference between the door and the door frame (image attached).
Does anyone know if a standard door closer like this (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078HLL9YL) would work with this depth difference between the closer body and shoe? What would I have to modify in the installation process to make it work? Is it just a matter of sliding over the position of the shoe to some other point? Appreciate any tips 🙏🏽
Looking to duplicate a cormax key to an apartment. We’ve tried multiple locksmiths and most have said it’s impossible, except for one locksmith (who seemed sketchy). Is it theoretically possible for someone else to duplicate this key, or is the landlord the only one that could do this? If this other locksmith can duplicate it, how would he go about doing that given cormax seems difficult to copy?
Guys…I’ve tried 2 kiosks and 2 locksmiths that CANNOT dupe my new biz key. Help, anyone?

American keys are flat, with notches on the top. When I lived in Europe, all the keys for buildings were rectangular prisms with notches on all sides. I am told this type of lock is much harder to pick. What is the name for this kind of lock, and is it possible to get them in the US? Is there anything else I should know about them before putting them on my house?
Edit: after looking at pictures of the keys mentioned in the comments, I think the keys I am looking for are Abloy or Dormakaba. Dormakaba's US website doesn't have them, and Abloy doesn't advertise in the US.
