My buddy has one but we cannot find a key for it anywhere. Number is no good on the machine
I’m getting mixed information from searching online. Some say they’re the same and it’s fine, others are saying not compatible. I’m a day into this money saving venture, and know almost nothing. Bought a 50 pack of kw1 keys from Amazon and then learned that they aren’t compatible with kw11 keys so some of the ones I need to copy aren’t working. Can’t find any kind of decent deal on Amazon for kw11s but there are plenty for kw10s.
I want to buy a high security cam lock to replace the existing one on a safe and was looking at Camlock series 65 but I don’t see a way to order one online. Is that something a local locksmith would be able to order?
Wondering if any of you have any insight/ideas on getting my door open. I posted awhile back but took some better pictures this time. The local locksmith in my area doesn't want to work on it as it is a European lock, he suggested I contact the lock company (I have no idea who the manufacturer is). I'm thinking I may have to have the whole door taken out and replaced at this point.
Thanks for any insight!
(Edit: Sorry images did not get attached on first posting)
I have 3 doors that I would like electronic keypad locks on but also with the ability to unlock with a key. I'd like them all keyed to the same key. Also to be able to be controlled with my phone.
Only thing I've found is the kwickset but they're like almost 150 each. Is there another option? Is it expensive to rekey a lock if I just get cheaper ones?
Hello all,
I need community help please. Here is my problem: I got Schlage Encode with broken deadbolt latch. I thought I would just buy Schlage deadbolt latch and replace it, but it looks like the piece that drives the bolt and that has a slot where tailpiece is going is shifted 45 deg on Schlage mechanical locks... So Encode would work but beeps and says jammed every time it opens and tries to open second time. I am pretty sure the problem is the latch. Anybody can point me to online store where I can buy replacement that would work for smart lock? Thank you all
What is a good rate to open a doorknob in the NYC area? Are prices higher for “commercial” grade doorknobs? This was just a doorknob with a keyhole inside that was a higher quality weight/material. First locksmith quoted a charge of $150 and the second changed his $125 quote to $225 after saying it was “commercial”. He opened it in 5 minutes by drilling out the keyhole. (I was in a rush). In retrospect, I feel I was ripped off.

Our hoa is self managed and installed a PDL6100 back in 2013. They are looking to replace it because “it’s a pain to have to program keys”. I think the pain is they have to go to the pool to be near the lock/gateway to add or remove cards.
We don’t have a ton of money. My question to you awesome locksmiths is has the technology in this model changed to where one no longer needs to be near the gateway to update entry cards. I assume yes but before we go spend money I’d like to verify. Thanks.
Hi guys! Had a question about getting started. I'm in my early thirties, looking for a career shift that could potentially lead to my own business. I've gotten pretty good as an amateur at picking basic tumblers, and Ive read a couple of locksmithing books - I feel like this could be a fun industry to break into. Plus, I live in a state where licensing is very accessible.
Right now, I work in an office and while I don't make very much money, I'm making quite a bit more than I would as a locksmithing apprentice. I live in a pretty high cost area, so my question is this:
Should I quit my office job and try getting a low paying apprenticeship? Or does it make more sense to keep my current position and try to learn locksmithing through education (college classes, YouTube, etc etc)? How long do apprenticeships usually span in order to have the knowledge to start striking out on your own? I'm not expecting to make any money at the beginning either way, and I understand paying your dues, but a man's gotta eat and I'm just crossing all my t's.
Thanks!
Customer lost key to their desk lock, and I noticed the wafers are stamped. Would these be the cuts? Or do these numbers need to be inverted or something to figure out the cuts? First time seeing something like this so just looking for a bit of guidance. I’m using an ILCO 1054G key blank. Thanks I advance for any help.
Hi All, we had to call a locksmith after we misplaced our key.
After aligning the pins with his tool, it was a relief.
Few days after, the lock started to be capricious: sometimes impossible to spin the key inside, sometimes just fine. Now no key even the original would work.
We called the same locksmith who said this is unfortunate and likely due to wear and tear of an old lock as he doesn’t use destructive method.
He lubricated it and said it needs full service at workshop. He said that if he had broken the lock, the lock wouldn’t have worked at all after the fix.
It is 14 year old and the likely hood of it failing just a few days after our first lock smith service makes me feel very doubtful…
Would it be possible that the pins were misaligned during his fix and it got worst after few usage ?
Or what is your view dear community ?
Thanks !
Hi brothers If anyone please know a company send jobs to me by per call or presentage let me know please Thanks God bless all
Hello Locksmiths,
I just purchased new doors for my home renovation and need to invest in some high quality door hardware. I prefer levers and have looked at Omnia, Baldwin (the Estate line), and Emtek. I will also need to purchase pocket door mortise sets. Do you have any advice about these brands as far as the quality of their products and the quality of the internal mechanisms? I don't want to spend $500 per door on hardware but I don't want to buy something that is not going to last or look like junk in a year or two. I hate the feeling of floppy loose levers. I will be purchasing unlacquered brass.
Thanks so much.
I live in Ohio I searching about someone here from Ohio to talk with him about some business we can do together Thank you
Added a smart key to a Mazda CX5 with Autopropad. Key works fine but dashboard security light stays solid. Tried a hard reset, any other suggestions to get it to turn off?
I bought a new Black Widow Key Machine and while trying to set it up The thumb screw that tightens the jaw would not tighten it. Called Lock Labs support and they said several machines have had this problem. Has anyone else encountered this. They said to use the set screw included and it should work. They are in the process of creating a fix.
I have zero experience as a locksmith, I'm about to finish my associates degree in nothing and not sure I want to continue college at least at this point in time. Before going to college I was doing tree work and before that I was doing aircraft maintenance. Was wondering if there were any recommendations for schooling or training for this career field? I have the GI bill to help cover the costs of school so that isn't necessarily a worry. I have heard that OJT is probably one of the best routes but nowhere around me is hiring that I can see. Thanks for any tips or info you can provide!
Anyone have any idea how to remove the ignition from this fiesta it’s a laser cut key or any other way to get the key out of it I’ve tried the door but am missing 2 code but even then I fix the key and it doesn’t work
I have a situation with a door we are installing an electrified mortise on a fancy Italian door with little to no frame as well as it being soundproof. The issue is you cannot cross the door horizontally. So I need some kind of a surface mount power transfer for the lock side of the door.
I used to get th from ADI and they looked exactly like a hardwire alarm contact but it had screw terminals on both pieces and copper contact that would make the circuit when the door or window was closed.
Does anyone recall a model number or know of something similar, there is no room to recess a transfer either.
for legal reasons I am not trying to break in, just curious***
