Considering buying myself an Africa Twin. I'm 5'7 with a 31" inseam. I have ridden tall bikes in the past, used to own a DRZ 400 with the tall seat concepts seat, and currently ride another DRZ with the stock seat. They're tall for me but very manageable due to being light. I have no problems swinging my leg over and flat footing one side. But, the AT being so heavy is a bit intimidating. Normal city riding and stops and goes are easy enough, but...
Any tips for parking on a steeper/sloped incline where my foot won't quite reach the ground? And, any tips for getting the bike back up straight when leaving from that parked position? I feel like I can power through the DRZ, but the AT is pretty top heavy.
Also, I would like my girlfriend to backpack. Will I have trouble getting her on the back of bike if I struggle to flatfoot it myself? I've only ever had passengers on a shorter bike.
1990 dr350, starts up and runs great, just again paranoid about the sounds this engine is making. Last time i posted my concern (facebook or here on reddit) people said that these old tractor sounds are normal.
From the video i took i can hear two distinct different types of ticking. One of which is the higher pitch sound that is most likely just the valves, and another is lower sounding and you can hear it moving towards the bottom of the engine. I do have a manual cam chain tensioner in the bike that was installed by the previous owner that I’m wondering might be the issue.
I watched a video earlier by toms tinkering that addressed this and came to find out that it was the balancer in the engine that caused some sort of ticking, but he never provided a video of the clicking so i had nothing to compare to.
If anyone else has any 90s dual sport that makes these old “tractor” sounds please share videos just so i feel a bit less paranoid that something is actually wrong with my engine.
I'm a 170cm height guy, I use this for commuting because here in the Philippines province there still more rough roads and still unfinished roads I should include flash floods, typhoon, earthquake, volcanic eruptions, landslides, tsunami and this is fuel efficient it can do a 45kpl up to 50kpl helps battle the oil and gas price hike and inflation rate, the engine is very simple ohc air cooled design the same as honda cb unicorn, the engine is also use in honda tmx supremo a motorcycle uses on tricycle here. so if you a shorter than me you can bought a honda xrm, or honda xr150l,
I had a facebook group people that the linkage should be greases, I had a new honda crf150l should I listen to them?
First off please let me know if this is not the correct way to post.
I have never owned a bike but have always wanted a dual sport—mostly for fire road and blm touring, some camping, etc. I have my m1 license and am looking for a light beginner bike I can hold on to for a long time.
One friend has a 2012 Honda crf250l with about 10,000 miles. Doesn’t ride it much and offered it to me for $3,400 with a hitch mount rack and some other small items. Seems decent.
I talk to another friend who is SUPER into motocross and bikes in general and he was pretty cold on the deal saying I should just buy a new bike because the advancements over 10 years are pretty huge and worth paying double for (~$6,000 for the Honda crf300l). It sure if this is super legit or just his area of expertise so he’s being hard on old tech.
Just looking for pointers as it is one of many hobbies and I don’t plan on needing the latest and greatest just the tried and true.
Happy to delete and or repost if my question is not correctly posed. Or would be better somewhere else—just looking for guidance from a place I’ve lurked for a while.
I ride a dr650 with upgraded suspension.
Low pressures I run is 15 but I cannot ride fast as I'm sure pinch flats will be a problem.
No chance anyone would know of any more off-road type tyres that would fit these wheels and also where to find a decent exhaust
Hi all ive been using kerosene to clean off chain wax off my chain when it gets dirty (mud/sand/etc) pretty regularly, except every single sprayer i use stops working fast. I even tried specially chemical resistant sprayer, to no avail. What do you guys use to spray kerosene ? the dip the brush in a bowl isnt that great.
Edit: Under $2500
I have caught the motorcycle bug. I am 6'4 around 220lbs, ive sat on a few triumph cruisers (speed masters) and have found that the cruiser position wouldnt fit me or my lifestyle very well. My hope is something that i can keep around for a few summers until i feel comfortable enough learning until i get into a triumph tiger 800.
I dont want to break the bank but id still want something that looks pretty slick to take off the road into the Adirondacks.
What bikes would you recommend to start looking into?
I'll be heading there myself with my dr650 from eastern WA. Last went in 2019 and had a blast!
Edit: and if anyone else is riding over from eastern WA and wants to group up for the way over lemme know!
Hey guys, I'm just a young man that doesn't need anything big like a 600c or something. Thinking from a 125cc to a 300cc.
I'm an inexperienced rider that would love a little ride-around motorbike to screw around on on-road and off-road. Not gonna be doing anything on the highways, just need something for vacations to ride locally and something that's decent but not gonna cost me an arm and a leg.
I know some of the older Honda/Yamaha Dual-Sports are pretty badass little motorbikes but I got no idea how good they actually run compared to something newer.
Quick question does the klx300r seat fit a klx300 dual sport/sm
I plan on using it on the street and moderate trail riding. On the forum I looked at it says every 200 miles. The 250l I was looking at says every 4000 miles. Is it true that I would be changing the oil that fast on the KTM?
I’m in westchester about 30 min from nyc
-5"11 150lbs Male -Absolute max budget of 15k (including accessories) but would prefer to spend less -New or used bikes OK -30% off road & 70% on road (25-55 mph, rarely 60+). -Hot climate (Las Vegas) -Daily driver -High range capacity -Fuel IInjected
Having a hard time deciding. I’m on the west coast of Canada. There’s a 2020 500 near me with 1100kms on it for $10,500 CAD. Runs great; looks like it’s been ‘stored’ outside since it rolled off the showroom floor - corrosion on the chain and covered in pollen and dust. Big scrape on the swingarm near the sidestand, otherwise no sign it’s been horizontal. Stock tires barely worn, not a single modification.
There’s a 2024 with 80kms on it, a 4 hour drive away. Guy seems flush with cash; rode it twice and parked it after buying it. Looks new from the photos. $13,000 CAD.
A new (from the dealer) is $14,500 with all the fees. We pay 12% tax on new and used vehicles, so tax is irrelevant between the options.
Is a $3k delta worth getting the unmolested 2024?
I'm picking up a new bike tomorrow - a KTM 500 EXC-F, either a 2023 or 2024 - and had largely decided on the 2024 until I began shopping around for luggage racks. Lots of good, lightweight, minimalist ones for the 2023 and below, but I can't find a single one for 2024.
Anyone come across one? This will ultimately decide if I get the 2023 or 2024.
I really want to have a dual sport but I am very concerned at the fact that most bikes have such high seat heights. I would love to be able to have both feet on the ground but I am realizing that just might not be in the cards which is very depressing. I saw someone else's post about this and people suggested the XT225/XT250 but they seem impossible to find in my area. Any advice would be appreciated. I just want to feel safe and in control. This will be a starter bike.
