The Yamaha XT250 (Serow) has a long history as a fun, light and agile bike. Through the years, it has provided an accessible platform for exploring and an entry point for motorcycling, both on and off road. Oh, and Rambo rocked the shit out of an Yamaha XT250 in First Blood.

I ordered these stands from Amazon, but found the front paddock was not compatible with my XT250:

Could someone point me towards a set that will work? Much obliged!
Hey guys. I have a 2024 xt250 and so far, i have not used it off road as I have moved away from close trails. Since I joyride it around my small town from time to time, I am looking at purchasing street tires for it. Any suggestions? Thanks.🙏
Got my wife a 2020 XT 250 and removed the previous owners lowering links. I replace them with genuine Yamaha stock links. Consulted the parts diagram and put everything back together. What concerns me is this side to side play in the video. Per the diagram I am missing any washers or parts. Is this normal?
Hi all. Just bought a 2018 and had it inspected. Said it was tip top. Got it home, cracked open a manual and was looking at the oil window and apparently this thing has little to no oil in it. I can’t find pics of what it’s supposed to look like and it’s really hard to see. Is this empty? Either the inspector is a liar or I’m blind.
I guess I could just do an oil change and see what comes out. It’s not due though at 3k miles but couldn’t hurt. Feel stupid posting this but whatever.
Anyone know of any places/websites I could potentially find some used or cheap plastics for a 2018 XT250? Idc if they’re used anything or even slightly damaged. If I don’t like the look of em I’m thinking about just wrapping them or painting them. so idc if it’s a Frankenstein job starting out. Or do I just have to get lucky and hope I can find someone local that’s parting out their bike.
Just wanted to thank everyone with advice on the carb vs fuel injected model concerns I was having. Happy to update I'm elated with my carb model and excited to go on more adventures!
Hey everyone. I've been looking to do some longer distance touring/camping on my 23 XT. I was looking at Tusk bags or Kriega. Does anyone have an opinion either way and should I be looking at getting a rack or just the throw over ones? All help is appreciated.
Hi, I’m wondering how an XT would do off road in desert trails for 99% of its time. It would be for my gf. She sat on this and TW and liked the low seat height. I was thinking something more along the lines of an KLX 230R or Rs or a CRF 250F. However, could the Yamaha XT be good enough? She’s a beginner rider, and has previously had an old XR 250R , but wants the ole E start.
Am I being stupid considering a dual sport for primarily off road as opposed to a trail bike?
Thanks
Love these pegs but just crashed and bent the right one. Unfortunately this guy is no longer making pegs and is out of stock for the xt250. Looks like all he has left is tw200. Looking for an acceptable substitute. I don't want $20 pegs from amazon but I would also rather not spend $180 on pegs. Must be strong enough to count on riding aggressively while standing. Any ideas?
I took my xt for a ride down a bush road and dumped the bike over. got Back up still good. I did notice that when tipped over gas was leaking from the gas cap... Then i saw some big puddles not thinking to much of it and drove through it. Was in 2nd gear and almost cleared it, but the water was at my boots, and it stalled just before it got out. Took a few seconds then it powered on. Then ahead there was another puddle which i have crossed before with no problem. The water there was roughly lower than the other one so i thought it could handle it. Same thing happened where the engine stalled. Took more than a bit to get it out into first gear and i don't know if this was because i was being more cautious or if it was in second gear lolwhatever. Drove it back home easy peasy.
Now i worry. I love this bike since its showed me to take the back roads and not the highway and i want to treat her right.
-Should i worry about the gas cap(How to fix)
-Did the bike go too deep in water?
-Why did it stall (did i damage it)
-Also how do i know if the wheel is bent or bars are (They look fine but i am also not an expert)
Thanks for reading,
Hey guys, I'm looking into getting an XT cause I'm a shorter rider and theres one available that's a 2009 model so its carbureted. I was wondering if there was any real difference between the carbureted vs the fuel injected versions? I know that elevation changes affect carbs but is there any other great difference? Should i hold off for a fuel injected one to become available or is the carb version just as good? Thanks
Looking to be prepared for most common issues on the trail. Thank you!
Hi guys! Do any of you know if it’d be possible to mount an XT550 on a 1985 XT250 for extended range? Like this one:
Having a hard time finding after market parts that are a fit for my 24, anyone have suggestions for an exhaust and windscreen, is there any must haves for this bike?
Dirt newbie here. I bought a 2013 XT250, and I'd like to add Cyclerack's rear rack to it:
It's chunky. Should I have concern about this getting in my way in an emergency dismount?
I recently bought a 2008 xt250 with ~4000 miles as a good starter bike. I knew picking it up that it was going to need some work but I’m finding quite a few problems that are maybe a bit too complicated for me to figure out.
Problem #1: It bogs down at high rpm. I found that this problem is not present if I take the air filter out. So I ordered an new high flow air filter from K&N. After I popped the new filter in, the bogging marginally improved but is still very much present at half throttle and above.
Problem #2: The clutch seems to stop working/needs to be adjusted after the bike warms up. The clutch lever needs to be replaced (lots of vertical wobble) and the kit is on its way but I’m starting to worry that won’t solve the issue. I have adjusted it a few times and now I cannot adjust it and further and it still is not engaging while I fully squeeze the lever. The problem does not solve itself when the bike cools back down.
Did I buy a junker that cannot be saved? Or did I just buy a junker that needs a bit more work haha?
Hello everyone , so I have xt250 2016 here about 7k Miles on it . At 55 mph the front end does a death wobble after changing the tire pressure in the front end to 25 psi. What do you think should I buy this bike or how to fix it .
I purchased this bike in March. On my third trip out I was not getting power in the gears just high revs, basically my bike was slipping between gears. I drive 2 hours back to that dealership and they get me right in. A day later I’m told it was the bar riser added (mind you this was added as soon as I got the bike with two successful trips), and I quote my pars were out of whack pulling the clutch cable “the clutch was pointing straight up in the air” which I pulled a video out of my pocket from the day I dropped it off showing simply no it wasn’t. To which he then said “that’s just what the tech told me”.
I didn’t get in to it, my bike was back (52 miles) so I agreed to disagree and came an hour home. Since then I have accumulated 118 miles in total literally no more than 2-3 miles at a time because I’m nervous about getting stranded. As I did take a trip many miles away and once warm the bike wouldn’t go south of neutral meaning I had N2345 to get home. When I got home I adjusted the clutch shifter putting it in another spot as maybe it’s not long or short enough of a stroke? Who knows right. Well it shifted…. But the bike had cooled down and I didn’t think that affected anything.
So I didn’t ride it because well it shifted but is it fixed? I don’t wanna risk it, ninja it is today! My friend wanted to go and trail ride so we planned a few weeks out and I’m pumped to finally get back on the 250. I drive 1.5 hours unload my bike take it up the hill, yes we are riding! I return waiting for him to unload and gear up and I’m idling the whole time so the bike is up to temp. We go back up the hill and try and find a good trail head and he had to stop to check his map. When I stopped, nada I had no gears… for 10-15 mins I take a 10mm and adjust up and down and up and down on the shift lever and I finally get first and no other gear after essentially rattling all I can it found it.
I load up drive 45 mins from there to the dealer. Not pleasant until I get the ops director. I asked them to put 20 miles on it. I felt like I was being interrogated in truth but the long and the short I left and they “started working”. I was told there was a faulty brake switch? That made it not need the clutch to go in to gear and Yamaha had sent the part. Now maybe he was confused on the phone but whatever, fixed bike yay. They rode 20 miles over 3 different riders and no issues.
I bring it home. 3 mile in, no gears again with vids to prove it. I’ve officially asked for Yamaha to buy me out. I’m tired of wasting time chasing something they didn’t look at the first time (video proof), then something they half heartedly diagnosed afterwards. I love this bike but now owning it many months 152 miles total (126 from me) but fearing to gear up and go is a nightmare. I don’t want to fight this fight because I wanted to like this bike I really did, however sadly I’m at a loss of options from my perspective. I can’t keep wasting hours taking it back and forth or not riding because I’m worried I’ll get stuck again. It’s a new bike, this isn’t new bike problems.
