A place for all us down and dirty Honda riders.
There are so many various letter designations of single cylinder airhead/oilhead Honda's.
BTW if you want to discuss gear that's fine, but don't be a dick about it.

Hi all,
I’ve just purchased a XL250R from 1986. I’m looking for a Haynes/Crymer manual, but I can only seem to find a manual for the 1984-models. Does anybody know if they made big changes to the bike from ‘84 to ‘86, or would it be “safe” for me to use the ‘84 manual? Thanks a lot.
Anyone have a recommendation for modern foot pegs that fit stock setup on a 1986 XR 600R? Would like to find some that just go right on without any need for extra work.
Howdy,
My AA battery powered digital speedo stopped working after a few months of sitting at a shop that was backed up on work before it was street legal converted. Does anyone have any recommendations for where to take it to get looked at? Small mom and pop computer repair store? Geek squad? Frys electronics?
I cleaned the battery compartment of most of the minor buildup of battery acid I saw but didn’t get it working. Think it may need a slightly more in depth look by someone who knows small electronics better than me.
Hi, installing a CNC crankcase cover. Also had to replace the clutch pressure plate, therefore I had to remove the four bolts/springs. I wasn’t smart enough to count the turns when removed them. Have the manual but can’t find any info about the torque of these bolts. Anyone? Thanks in advance!
I'm trying to split the crank case so I can clean out the bottom end. I have a Vessel impact screw driver and I spent 15 minutes swinging as hard as I dare with my hand holding the driver and havent had any luck. Assuming the case hasn't been apart since it was put together 40 years ago.
I thought that's the tool everyone used. I don't want to buy a torch. Is this normally how hard they are? Is there something I'm missing?
Seriously fuck whoever thought using screws were a good idea, they should have used bolts.
Rebuilt top end on a non running bike and it’s running now but it’s got the stock jetting of 35 pilot and 95 main. I’m going to my local shop to look for a new pilot. With it on clip 3/middle it will idle but bogs real bad with throttle but if I slowly roll it open it’s ok. 2 it won’t idle unless I blip the throttle to keep it up and runs good. 4 it won’t idle or run for shit. Should I go up a pilot jet?
Hy guys, i have a xl250r but i can't start it without a big kickback. Anyone know how to adjust the ignition timing or help troubleshoot the problem. I starting to hate this bike but i have to make it better(lideable for summer).
Hi i have a question what carburetor is better the pd01a Or the 075a
Could I take a 1988 600r top end carb airbox and put it on my 85 bottom end to make it single carb? Cause the dual carb is such a pain in the ass lol
I’m looking for replacement side covers for my new to me 82 XR100. I’m seeing aftermarket ones available for the 83 and 84 models which look to be a different style, more square instead of rounded, and I’m wondering if the frame mounts are the same as the 81 and 82 and whether it was just a cosmetic change and they will fit. The seats look to be the same (at least shape but not part number) in the parts breakdown so I’m hoping that the frames are the same and I can put them on since I don’t really care about originality, I just want something that isn’t broken that won’t break the bank. The tank looks to be bigger on the newer 83 and 84 models but it doesn’t look to affect the side panel area.
I haven't had it out for a few years and am considering selling it. I consider it fair condition. Any idea a realistic asking price?
1986 Xr250r The pulse generator striker broke on my xr. I have the part but can’t get it timing right. Can anyone help me. I need the location of the striker compared to the TDC mark. Thanks in advance!
Hey guys, I recently made a home made headlight bucket to mount the bikes original headlight to go out for some midnight fun, but for some reason when I rev up the motor the bulb gets brighter and brighter and it blew my high beam within the first 5 minutes. Does anyone have any idea if this could be a fuse, battery, or my rectifier? Thanks
I’ve just rebuilt the bottom end of this bike as the last owner had to have been on something with the state of the bottom end and I’ve got it running and now my top end is blazing hot and I can’t even touch my finger on it after just riding it down my road and back the bottom end is cool when I touched it but I have confirmed there is oil getting to the top end but still running extremely hot
1997 xr400 with new wiseco 10:1 stock size piston. 135 main jet and 15 pilot with the p8 needle jet. Ordered a pilot jet kit to try and figure out quick throttle blips causing bog at idle. What jets are people running at sea level for their carbs? Posts of carb will be on my profile cause I can’t post them with a video. Also what setting for the pumper needle screw. It’s currently bottomed out as seen in pics
So I have a 2004 california model xr400r. I accidentally ripped the nipple that goes to the crankcase separator on the cali model on my air box boot, the replacement boot with the nipple almost seems impossible to find so I am wondering really what this system does and or if i can remove it? assuming that bikes in all other 49 states didn't have it I would think that I can remove it?
fairly new at working on motorcycles but very knowledgeable ( i like to think) in mechanics.
As a title says, i'm trying to step up my XR125L 2023 look. Let me know!
I’ve got a 600 from a trade and I’ve ended up having to rebuild the top end and I got it running really good then come to find out this whole time I’ve been running it with a hole in the case because the previous owner blew it, put a piece of tin over the whole then proceeded to self taped screws in it and jb welded over it so I couldn’t see it they also left a bolt in the case floating around ending up taking teeth off the primary drive gear and outer clutch so I had to replace all of that and I got it back together but I forgot a piece on the clutch making it wobble in the bottom end but it still ran it just got really hot and the clutch was slipping so I put it on the right way seeing that no gear teeth were even slightly damaged and now I’ve got everything put together right and she refuses to start I’ve kicked it bump started it and the whole 9 yards she fires every once and a while but will never hold I know it’s getting gas tho every time I give it throttle bump starting it it bogs and dies please someone help I’m already in a hole money wise and I want it running so I can get rid of it
Hey guys so a friend got an XL600 LM recently that had been standing for a few years. It was in remarkably good shape though optically. She starts up and idles and runs smooth.
While driving when U get between 3 and 4 thousand rpm she starts like sputtering almost like someone was cyclicly taking away the power a few times a second. Now my initial thought was that the second carb that kicks in later must be gunked up. While I didn't check everything we cleaned out the jets, that looked ok, needle looked fine and no fuel leaks and the floats both sealed.
Now some people told me it could be a vacuum leak but I'm not sure. I've never worked on a dual-carb single cylinder setup so maybe that could be? Some of the top carb gaskets didn't look in great shape so will be replacing those anyway. Also while running she does blow out a decent amount of black smoke when given a bit of gas which would indicate rich mixture to the opposite of lean so I'm really at a loss here.
Do you guys have any suggestions, maybe compression or valves? I really don't have any experience with these bikes or this type of carb setup. Thanks for any help.
SOS. Before I spilt my case to find out. Do any yall know if there is a clip holding the kickstarter spindle in place. Not very much info on the spindle. Just manuals.
Just finished a top end with a wiseco 85mm 10:1 ratio piston. The previous main jet was a 130 and ran great on stock piston but now I got a 140 and a 137.5 because my shop didn’t have a 135. The 140 bogged out pretty bad at full throttle and the 137.5 still bogs out at full throttle but not as much but my fuel mixture screw doesn’t really seem to be doing a whole lot because it doesn’t make a difference until it’s almost all the way in. Does the bogging at full throttle sound like too big or small of a main jet?
