My new to me (655 miles) 2017 rally with a ton of upgrades including a cbr300 engine that's now a 348cc, ohlins fork internals, one off hyper pro rear shock, ims tank and a bunch of other goodies.
Hello all. I am looking to buy my first dual sport and motorcycle at that. I found a 2018 crf250l for $3k but it has ~37k miles on it. Is this a stay away or what are some things I should look out for? Thank you all.
Edit: thank you all for the comments. I am going to hold off on this one for now but keep looking. I am not giving up!
Edit2: found a 2014 with 300 miles for 4K? Once again this is CA.
Got a chance to get a pretty rad crf250l rally with a cbr300 engine swap and a big bore kit on top of that. I'm more of a supermoto guy so I was wondering if it's easy to convert the rally to a non rally. Anyone know? Might be willing to trade all the rally bits for non rally bits. Thanks!
Bought used 2015

Really going 50

You guys are better than my local shop
I’m sure of it.
Previous owner never mentioned any sprocket change
Honda from factory issue?
I want to paint my head and side plastics with red instead of white. It seems R292 Red is only for CRF's. Is there anyone who painted '17 one with red ?
not sure if this is the best place to ask this or not but i figure i would try it. After a low battery issue, i used a motorcycle safe jump starter that i have used 30 times. when i attached the starter, all was normal and green light on jump starter and full lights on bike. I hit the ES and nothing. my headlight shut off like its supposed to but the switch literally did nothing. no attempt or even a click. trying to diagnose the issue. any guesses on the many parts that participate in the ignition process?
I'm looking for places to find and list my used 250l parts. Currently I have a factory rear wheel and some miscellaneous parts I'm looking to sell.
TIA
Cheers!
Edit: I use Facebook marketplace, offerup and Craigslist..
I can now vouch for better suspension... if you've had your bike for a while and don't know if you should keep it or buy better, upgrading the boingy bits is a viable option. I've had my LRP since new in 2015 and recently upgraded the suspension and took it on some enduro trails. Holy crap its almost a like a real dirt bike. Still heavy as shit (my back thinks so at least), but it's very manageable in the woods/whoops now. Cost was $1300± for fork rebuild w/Ktech spring and RT gold valves installed by a pro, with a Ktech shock I installed. Swapped to 13/45 sprockets and some trackmasters, now its the Lil Red Tractor. Needs a real test run at a GP race next year, I was too chicken to race this go around. In closing, if ye covet the Holy Trinity of street legal, magic button, and reliability then new suspenders might be for you.
Side question...does anyone use the 18" oval Delkevic silencer? Trying to lose some exhaust weight but the FMF is heckin loud...
Too Long Didn’t Read:
14-44 sprocket set up, is 108 the correct chain size? Best sprocket setup for highway cruisability and wheelie enhancing torque on sumo tires?
Full post:
Hoping to get some help here as I’m not finding a definitive answer online and I’m sort of new to regearing.
Picked up a 250L over the weekend. Seems like the P.O geared the bike to 14-44. She needs a new chain and I’m trying to figure out if a 108 link is what I need for this set up (hopefully without counting the links on the old chain).
Also since I’m replacing the chain, I considered the possibility of a different sprocket set up. The bike is sumo converted, still needs a bigger rotor and some other goodies. This bike will not see dirt, only urban/ road riding. Ideally I want the bike to be able to spend some time cruising comfortably on the highway to reach some sick spots about 20-40 miles from me, but also be geared to enhance it’s hooning capacity (wheelies, pep out of corners, etc). What would you guys recommend with these things in mind?
Bike has a header, slip on, ejk injection controller, possibly a filter and airbox mod (haven’t checked yet, just got the bike).
Any and all input and help is appreciated!
Plan on posting pictures of her as I tie up the loose ends and get her dressed up, just getting the basic maintenance items out of the way first.
Hey guys! The white plastic chain guard on the bottom of my 2015 broke off. I'm having a hard time finding a replacement. Anybody know where I can get one or have a link? Thanks for any help!
I bought a friend’s 2014 crf250L (10,000 miles) in June. Changed plastics got a rear rack. Was excited but also became worried about how heavy the thing is as I would need to hitch rack it to riding destinations and it feels heavy AF.
I’m realizing I may have struck a few years too early because my kids have a lot of weekend events that make riding almost impossible.
Also, My buddy who was most into joining me on trips is getting divorced out of nowhere so riding buddy is out for at least a year or so.
I’m curious if effectively storing the thing for the next few years and doing a short ride 1-2x a month to keep engine happy is stupid and if I should just sell it and try to get another bike down the road.
Better to cut or just hold on to it?
Hello all,
I’ve got a 2020 Crf250l and the brake light has stopped working even though the tail light works fine. I replaced the bulb and checked the wiring harness, but still no luck. Any ideas what might be going on?
It has 3500 miles, well maintained. Tyres are decent.
I have a 2011 Honda CRF450r that has been hard to start once its warm and all valve clearances have been checked. I have noticed now that there is a 2009-2010 vortex ecu in this bike. I am wondering if this would be the cause of my problems. I would like some advice before going and spending big money on a new ecu. Thanks in advance
Hi all,
I'm thinking of increasing my gearing ratio to better suit a series of enduro/offroad events I'll be riding. I own a 2018 CRF250L and currently run a 14-43 setup. The events that I'll do involve single track, farm lands (corn fields) and military practice fields (tank tracks). The weather is often (very) wet and ruts can get deep, like peg height easily.
The single tracks are usually pretty tight with speeds varying between 10-30kph, while on the open 2-tracks and dirt roads I'd still like to be able to reach 100kph easily (I currently ride those at about 70-80kph but want to leave some room for improvement).
I make YT video's now and then and I had someone comment that he uses a 13-44 combo and loves it. That had me thinking of trying a 13T front sprocket as well, so 13-43. The only concern I have is that I've read quite a few reports about people damaging their swing arm with the popular 13-40 and 13-42 combo's.
A 13T front sprocket would mean that I can leave my freshly installed chain on but I don't want to damage the swing arm out of laziness. So, is there really that much risk of doing damage with a 13T and should I go 14-45 (new sprocket and chain), or are the stories a bit over exaggerated and can I just try the 13T? EDIT: And would 13-43 still get me to 100kph easily? Without revving at 10k rpm?
I know front sprockets are cheap and I can just try, but I want to make an informed decision so I hopefully just have to change once. Any input is much appreciated.
I recently found a crf250l online for 3700 with just over 4k miles. Is this a good deal or what is the typical price these bikes go for? Completely stock bike in good condition
2014 model. Finished rebuilding front caliper and followed the front wheel install guide according to the service manual. Was left with this gap as shown in the pic. Is this normal? Thank you.
I could’ve sworn I saw someone post about the best reserve gas cans to mount on a CRF250L. Does anyone recall that post of have any suggestions? I have a 2020 and, when riding more than an hour or so, range has been an issue since I mostly ride on the parkway with no gas stations. So, I thought I’d go ahead and buy some but wanted some advice first.
I have about 3k miles on stock tyres - they are worn out. Recommendations for mostly offroad riding.
As said in title, I can find all the torque settings except for the new brake rotors. Any one knows?
2016 CRF, and the headlamp will shut off while running. I assume it's a bad connection, but where do I start?
