Reddit's home for New Orleans' original Hip Hop sub-genre, Bounce music! Bounce music is one of the oldest, most influential regional variations of Southern Hip Hop. The NOLA Bounce scene invented many styles of dance adopted by mainstream Hip Hop and other genres over the years, including "twerking" and the "p-pop". I finally got to learn about Bounce and see it for the first time last Friday when Big Freedia performed in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where I live.
I got close to the stage, took photos, and wrote an article.
Read about Big Freedia and see my photos here. https://medium.com/the-riff/shaking-my-booty-with-big-freedia-bd7fa8005ed3
Do you all enjoy her shows?!
Between 2002 and 2006, Matt Miller, Stephen Thomas, and John and Glenda Roberts shot interview and performance footage in New Orleans that – combined with the Roberts’ archival tape – came together as “Ya Heard Me?”, the most insightful and comprehensive look at New Orleans bounce music to date.
I've been doing this for a few years now and trying to spread the word- to set aside an hour or so every 4th of July to listen to the entirety of Juvenile - 400 Degreez.
It's a perfect record for a hot summer day and a part of American history that's still worth celebrating.
Enjoy...

To explore the diversity of electronic music /r/electronicmusic has started an activity where every week people submit songs that exemplify a certain genre and then the top 20 most upvoted submissions get made into a playlist.
This week we're exploring Bounce! I figure you probably know this genre better than us, so I invite everyone here to come over before Tuesday (4/16) to recommend songs and upvote the other submissions that would best represent this genre to the world.
Tl;dr /r/electronicmusic is making a Bounce playlist. We need your help submitting / voting on songs in the linked thread to make sure it turns out in a way you would be proud of!
If you are interested you can find the Bounce thread here >> link (ends 4/16)
Here is a megathread which links all of the weekly genre threads so far!
Here is a link to the other genre thread we have going right now: Glitch (ends 4/21)
*Upcoming genres include: Dutch House, Hard Trap & Dub
Hope to hear from you all soon!
