Looking for a Korean wedding officiant

Planning to get married in Hawaii, and having guests coming all the way from Korea who don’t speak English. Really want to make an effort for our guests to feel included and welcome. Where can I look for bilingual Korean officiants or emcees?

Visiting Waikiki

I’ll be in Hawaii until next Thursday and would love your recommendations for top things to do in and around Waikiki or nearby areas. Any must-visit attractions or activities? I’m also a pickleball enthusiast—are there any local courts or groups I can join?

If you fly on an airline other than Hawaiian like Southwest or Alaska is it going to be a lot smaller and less comfortable? Is it better to fly on a bigger plane?

So I'm looking at airfare prices and Southwest and Alaska are noticeably cheaper. I've always flown on Hawaiian and it's usually pretty spacy. I've only flown on Southwest/Alaska on short flights within the US and the planes are smaller. I don't know if it's exactly the same or if you get a bigger plane going to Hawaii. For a 5 hour flight I probably don't want a small plane but I don't know. Just want some advice.

Alternative accommodation

Are there any places to stay where I could use my accommodation money in a way that would help the local people rather than giving it to big corporations? The reason being is that I saw this video : https://youtu.be/pAFdLaW02jw? si=B5cFiUtwGM9iVO97 and was greatly moved. I will be in Honolulu Waikiki area first week of January attending a conference.

Gifts for ʻohana

Aloha! Can I have some recommendations for locally produced Hawaiian gift (I’m thinking edible) to send to my ʻohana in Oregon from O’ahu?

Maybe a place that’ll ship to them so I don’t have to get a headache shipping myself.

Māhalo!

Visitor looking to donate

Hello. I'm visiting Kauai and I'm looking to give back a bit, so to speak.

Are folks familiar with Kīpuka Kuleana (https://www.kipukakuleana.org/whoweare) and whether they are a reputable/good non-profit that serves the community well? If not, does anyone have suggestions for where to add support?

Thanks!

First Trip To Hawaii

Hi there like the title says, my husband and I will be taking our first trip to Kauai in early December. Just looking for some advice on what activities or places to go. I will say, I will be about 21 weeks pregnant when we go, so I know my options are limited, but I'm sure there's still lots to do. I love hiking and exploring and would love to see some waterfalls.

I know this is supposed to be the more rainy season but being Alaskan's that's definitely not gonna stop us from getting outside.

Big Island itinerary

Hello! My husband and I will be taking our two children (who are eleven and seven) to the Big Island for six nights in early December. I'm hoping to get some input on my draft itinerary.

We're staying in a condo with a pool south of Kona. We'll usually have simple breakfasts at the condo to save time and money. The kids can swim, and they love animals - we took them to Maui a few years ago and their favorite thing was seeing the dolphins swimming near the boat when we went on a whale watching trip. Neither my husband nor I drink coffee. I'm purposefully trying not to pack our itinerary too full.

Sunday:

  • Arrive (evening)

Monday:

  • Breakfast near condo
  • Walk to KTA for groceries and sunscreen
  • Pool and/or beach

Tuesday:

  • Volcanoes NP
  • Kaulana Manu Nature Trail
  • Rainbow Falls
  • Nāhuku
  • Lunch at Tuk Tuk Thai or Lava Rock Cafe
  • Punaluu black sand beach
  • Punaluu Bake Shop

Wednesday:

  • Farmer's market
  • Shopping in Kona
  • Pool and/or beach
  • Manta ray snorkeling with Eka Canoe

Thursday:

  • Wawaloli Beach
  • Pool and/or beach
  • Dinner at Papa Kona

Friday:

  • Akaka Falls?
  • Big Island Farms
  • Hapuna Beach (sea turtles)
  • Takeout and stargazing at Mauna Kea

Saturday:

  • Flight home (morning)

Thank you in advance!

Which island after big island?

My first time visiting and it was phenomenal. Wanted suggestions on which one to visit next. Main things I liked about big island was the snorkeling and how dispersed the population is so much of the island is just nature. I've never seen that many different fruit trees on roadside.

Hotel Recommendations

Hello everyone 👋🏻 My husband and I want to travel to Hawaii, specifically Maui and Oahu for our honeymoon during the summer, June 2025. We were planning on staying 3 days in Maui and 8 days in Oahu. I’ve heard that there’s more to do in Oahu, which is why we’re planning on staying more days in that island. What recommendations of hotels/resorts do you recommend for both islands? I don’t know if it’s best to do a resort for Maui (less days) and just a hotel that’s affordable for the 8 days in Maui. Or is it better to do a resort for Oahu since it’s more days of stay than Maui? (probably more expensive). If there’s any recommendations on what hotels or resorts to stay for either island 🏝️ , it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you 😊

To guide snorkel on Oahu… or not…

I lived IN waikiki for two years in my mid 20s (now 32) and while I have aaaaaall the great food spots to visit, I know nothing about being a tourist. My husband and I are honeymooning in mid December and I’m trying to find at least one or two touristy things (aside from hikes, duh) to do with him because it’s HIS FIRST TROPICAL VACAY EVER. I’m debating bringing snorkel gear and just cruising around a bit ourselves in populated areas or actually doing a tour where we can see things and have a guide. He’s never snorkeled before. I spent my childhood doing so in various places but have long since lost that confidence lol. There’s also a billion companies to choose from so I’m wondering if anyone has any recs on things that are actually worth paying for! No SUP or anything, we can do that here in Seattle whenever. But snorkeling and maybe even kayaking around esp since he is noooot the most comfy with the ocean. Perhaps even a little sunset boat cruise. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We’re staying at the Wyndham royal garden (happens to be a street over from my old apartment ha!!!).

Pearl Factory

I have so many questions about the Pearl Factory and was hoping someone might have some answers. I do apologize for my lack of Pearl knowledge.

1-where do they get the oysters 2-do they place the Pearls in the oyster as opposed to them being found naturally 3-do they pre - prepare the pearls as mine had a perfectly sized and shaped hope for jewelry 4-has anyone ever got the rare blue pearl?

Theories on why we get mistaken for locals.

Just for fun! We're not trying to pass ourselves as local. My husband and I have been to Hawaii 8 or 9 times.(live on west coast so cheap to go there) We've been mistaken of locals multiple times(probably him). They speak pidgin to him or give him discounts. One guy was talking to him in a "hawaiian accent" asking him if hes going to an event, my husband said no, we're tourist and the guy switched to Americanized english. 🤣 Could it be because we're asian and he's a bigger guy? Normal tshirt and not wearing a pollo/collar shirt? Ive observed many tourists wearing casual collar shirts... Anyways wish I was over there and not here at work.

Honolulu Nightlife

Hello hello from San Diego!

Girlfriend and I are going to visit Oahu for 5 nights in about a month. We both recently turned 21 and have been really into night life. Was wondering if there were any night clubs/venue that play 2010s - recent pop music and/or edm in Honolulu?

Open to suggestions for other things to do Honolulu at night too, thank you!

Traveling With An Infant

Hey, I was thinking that would 2-3 days in the Honolulu with an infant (Dole Plantation and Pearl Harbor)

And then a few days on the big island: Black sand beaches and volcanos.

Is that enough time? What else should I see? I'll have a young infant with me.

Aloha from Canada

We are Canadians and next year in October, we will be taking a cruise from Vancouver, BC to Hawaii, back to San Diego, CA.

It will be our 25th wedding anniversary, she will turn 65, and I, 75.

My wife wants to experience a lūʻau. The cruise is charging $300 pp USD. Is there an alternative so I can have some muffin points ?

*Edit - Does Anyone know of a birding tour or specialist we can hire in Honolulu since we are staying there 2 days ???

Budget for 1 month

Im visiting in Dec to visit a friend over Christmas in Ohau. Apart from flights and accommodation, as I am staying with my friend so I don’t have to worry about this.

How much would I need for daily food, transport and activities and going to the beach and visiting the other islands?

Resort hotel recommendations?

My partner and I are planning on visiting Hawaii (Oahu) for the first time in January for five days or so and are trying to figure out the best resort hotels to stay at. My preference is that it has good amenities, is likely to have other LGBT couples/is LGBT friendly, and is reasonably close to local attractions.

We like Disney stuff so we were considering Aulani but I heard that it may not be worth the cost.

Any help or recommendations are appreciated!

(Edited my post and flair because I mistakenly said we were planning to visit Maui when I meant Oahu- apologies!)

Visiting in January. Help, I’m lost.

Hi there everyone, My anniversary did not go as planned this year, and I want to make up for it by going to Hawaii in January. It would be anytime before the 20th.

What is the best island for that time?? I know similar questions have been asked, but I feel like the answers contradict or get confusing. I am totally ignorant on Hawaii.

Is anyone able to point me to resources that could help?

We are in our 20's, want a mix of relaxing and fun activities. Hoping to avoid any rain and have the 'classic' Hawaii experience.

:) thanks for any help!

First Draft Itinerary (4 days)

Hi! I'm heading to Hawaii in January with my boyfriend and we'll be on O'ahu for 5 nights, staying in Waikiki. I'm just starting to put together an itinerary and am looking for initial feedback to see if I'm on the right track. I like to see as much as possible, and my boyfriend wants to plant himself on a beach some of the time, so I'm trying to balance that. Are there any other suggestions for winter beaches that are safe for swimming besides Waikiki and Hanauma Bay? I'd also like to do an easy hike or two. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Arrival Day:

Arrive around 3 PM, pick up rental car and drive to Waikiki

Dinner in Waikiki

Day 1:

USS Arizona in the AM, possibly the Battleship Missouri

Spend the afternoon on the beach in Waikiki

Day 2:

Travel the North Shore, possible stops at Byodo-In Temple, Kahuku food trucks for lunch, Banzai Pipeline to watch some surfing (may use Shaka Guide for additional spots)

Head to Waimea Valley by mid-afternoon

Toa Luau at 5 PM

(Is this doable? Exhausting?)

Day 3:

Hanauma Bay if we can get reservations to snorkel

Makapu’u Point Lighthouse trail

(Additional stops on East shore? Any good beaches for relaxing in the winter?)

Day 4:

Diamond Head Crater trail

Relax on Waikiki Beach

(Iolani Palace or Bishop Museum if we decide to do something else)

Kauai January 2025

Aloha!

My friends and I will be travelling to Kauai 1/21-1/27. We are staying on Kiahuna beach. Unfortunately, the dates and the hotel are about the only things we have.

Given that it will be the rainy season, what can we expect? What are the best things to do? We're fine if things are a bit touristy - we'll be coming from Massachusetts and want to do everything. We are open to luaus, hikes, site seeing, tours, and water activities. Bonus points if you have coffee and acai recommendations.

Mahalo :)
