Hello I plan to fill out the housing application soon, and I had a question about first year housing. Im currently stuck between Hale Aloha and Johnson. Hale Aloha being multiple towers makes me lean more towards it but Johnson would be my RLP for engineering. Is RLP that Important and that helpful? The dorms are pretty much the same and my top is Hale Aloha just based on how the towers look the view and the lobbies because I think they look cool. Just looking for some opinions on why and what you guys would prefer, Thank You!

I'm a high school senior who's soon to be coming to the UHM campus on fall with plans to double major in Elementary Education and Japanese. I'd really appreciate some help and some advice, especially if you're also double majoring in some field of Education but anyone's help is greatly appreciated! I have some questions such as:

How do I declare a double major? Would I have to take more than 4 classes per semester to be able to get the credits I need to be able to qualify for both majors? For those reading that happen to be majoring in Education and Japanese, would I have to declare my Elementary Education first before contacting the East Asian languages department to add a major?

I am a transfer student who may end up dorming in Frear Hall, not sure… But i’m coming up to the point in the appplication where it’s asking me if I have requests for roommates. I would love to know if anyone wants to potentially live with me. I am not planning on sharing a room with another person. However, I may have an ESA (my cat) so I would want roommates who would be okay with having a cat in the vicinity lol. We don’t have to be besties (although that would be great) I just want to be paired with someone who is okay with a cat. I also would just love friends at UH Manoa anyway so y’all… hit me up LOL.

So I’m currently a senior in high school considering attending university over here, but I have a few questions in regard to being a gay male student. Firstly, does the campus feel accepting to LGBTQ+ people of different identities? Or is it more the case where people stay to themselves unless you ask. Secondly, how are the LGBTQ+ resources on campus? Like support groups, or clinics for sexual health. Lastly, would you say it’s difficult specifically for a gay guy to find a partner at this university? I just don’t want to commit to a university that goes against my person.

I am studying for some exam and looking for some places other than public library since their A/C is too cold for me to stay there for a long time. I found KCC or UH library is perfect for me but I can't get wifi for watching the tutorial video and doing some on line stuff bc I am not a student or faculty there.

If someone in UH do register my MAC address with his/her passthrogh, then can I use the wifi in the library?

Would anybody do it for me til this year? Definitely with some cups of coffee...?

I'm visiting Moku o Loe and staying in the dorms and have been having really bad sinus problems. I think it might be related to termite/cockroach/plaster bagworm feces and detritus, which the dorms admittedly have a problem with, but it could have other causes. I have previously visited Oahu and did not have similar issues, but didn't spend as much time in Kaneohe Bay either. Has anybody else experienced similar issues while staying at Moku o Loe or am I just especially unlucky?

Since the library is closed all weekend, I’m looking for some places to work on some assignments. Any recommendations ? Ideally quiet, with outlets and Wi-Fi, and nobody cares you’re there for a while

For those who have gone to UHM or are maybe about to graduate, how has your job search and career been? I know that there are not nearly as much opportunities on the island but maybe you are working remote? Or maybe working on the west coast now. I am curious to know how it has been, if you had struggled getting a job because the program did not set you up as well or internships were hard to come by. I am curious of input from those in cyber security as well. I think the island has a lot of three letter govenerment agencies that maybe boast good opportunities? I go to University of Washington Bothell and I am curious of transferring to UH but I am not sure if this is the better choice career wise. I am fine with living somewhere else after I graduate so the island not having much opportunities does not bother me too much. If it impacts the ability to get a job it is a problem, but if you were able to easily get one and move then that is okay. Would love all sorts of insight that helps me make a decision.

Did anyone take/know someone who's taken DNCE255 (the global perspectives on dance) class at UH? The main thing going for it is that it's fully online async and will fulfill the WI focus requirement... I can't find any other information on the class besides the description, so I wondering if anyone had some insight on it lol.

I drive the speed limit at all times on campus and always seem to get cut off by moped drivers who want to swerve around me. I don’t ever Karen out on them, but I really want to sometimes.

hello, i had two main questions firstly, is it possible to pay in-state tuition if you gain residency your second year? or are there any other ways to pay significantly less besides scholarships and etc second, are the honors program worth it? i’ve heard many people drop it after a year and i’m not sure if its because of rigor or overall not worth it. thank you!

I’m a sophomore (female) transfer coming in this fall and getting worried about finding a roommate. I’m on all the Facebook accounts and instagrams but it seems like everyone that everyone wants to live off campus which isn’t in my budget, or already has arrangements. Any recommendations? I have no issue with getting put with a random roommate but would rather know them before then. Is it too early to worry still? if anyone else is looking please message me ☺️❤️

I know the NWS came out a while ago but im wondering why they didnt send out rejection emails to everyone? Is it something they just don’t do? I only saw one person on here that got such an email. I feel like they should’ve sent them all out so they don’t give false hope. My mom has also been on my back asking me everyday to keep checking my email and its making me frustrated.

Hi!! I've been accepted to UHM for pre-nursing. Currently I'm a hs senior in socal so I have a couple questions since I'm trying to decide what college to attend. Is the nursing program super competitive? I can't find a specific acceptance rate for the nursing school itself which is important to me because nursing schools in cali are competitive enough as is 😅. I'm also planning to live on campus so when is the best time to apply for housing? Would there be a lack of opportunities in order to be a competitive applicant like working as a cna? thanks !!

Hello! I was accepted to UH Manoa for molecular biosciences and biotech. I’m from California but with scholarships, the price is about the same as in-state schools, so that’s not as much of a factor for me. I had a few questions to help me make my decision!

1. Does anyone know what this specific major is like? How is the science/engineering department compared to other schools?

2. What are class sizes like? How big will intro classes be, and how big are upper divs especially in my major?

3. Does Manoa have more of a hands on learning style or more traditional academic (lecture, notes, exams)

4. How are internships? For summers I’d likely be in California but how is the scene for internships or research with professors during the school year? Does the school help you find them or are you just left on your own?

5. What’s the social/party scene like? I’ve heard it’s pretty laid back, is that true?

6. How is LGBTQ+ community/ life like? Is it difficult to find queer friends?

One thing that has surprised me is how heavily processed a lot of the food is in American operated businesses, like Safeway and Target.

Can anybody recommend some farmers markets, or places to find higher quality food?

I have a cooler I can put dairy and stuff in, so don’t mind a drive if it’s necessary.
