Do you folks have this growing? I had noticed it before at some friends' place, but now I see it at a few places in my property. Months ago I just whacked the hell out of it. But it did bounce back. It's vine like, climbs everywhere and chokes other plants.
Any info is much appreciated. 🤙🏽
Pahoa Urban Food Forest (PUFF) hosts events the second Sunday of each month, exploring various aspects of permaculture and living sustainably with the land. Each event includes a discussion, a tour of our developing food forest & our perennial edibles, and free keiki of useful plants.
This month: Trees & shrubs outclass both annuals and herbaceous perennials in yielding the most nutritious vegetables, and they can produce abundant leaves for years or decades with minimal input. Join us in a discussion, drawing on Eric Toensmeier's freely downloadable Trees with Edible Leaves, of the whys, hows, and whos of growing leaf crops on woody perennials. Learn about, taste, and/or take home keiki of must-haves including bele, chaya, katuk, ofenga, chipilin, and many more!

DISCUSSION: 11 AM til noon: Trees with edible leaves
TOUR: noon til 1, with time to chat or wander more afterwards.

I'm cleaning out the yard, and have some weeds growing with thick roots that are hard to get out of the ground. One looks like it could turn into a tree. What are some ways to get rid of them without hurting the surrounding plants or soil? vinegar, salt? anything that works is welcome!!
Not the best photo, but trying to identify this tree in Mānoa. Any help is appreciated thanks!
What are these critters infesting the leaves? I have been spraying the plant 3-4 times weekly with neem oil solution for an earlier white fly problem. I have noticed small ants crawling all over the plant as well. Any solutions welcome, the plant has a lot of immature peppers I hope to harvest.
All the rain from a couple weeks ago made for some big cucumbers!
I’m in Makakilo on Oahu and just recently bought a dwarf lemon tree. I want to buy more types, but I want to invest in ones that have a high success rate for my area. Any suggestions on what trees seem to do well here?
Hey there. Is pothos growing up coconut palms a problem for the health of the palm tree? I’m finding mixed info online. Thanks!
After about 10 years, my Hawaiian hot pepper plant died. So I grabbed new one from Lowe’s (keiki without peppers.) It was marked as Hawaiian hot pepper, but I’ve started to get peppers and they’re nothing like my old plant. The old peppers were tiny (maybe 2”) and banana-shaped, a bit like a miniature Anaheim pepper (but quite hot.) the new peppers are red, much more round, and wrinkly. They’re red, and they’re hot enough to knock you down and take your lunch money. I like hot peppers, but these are insane.
Any ideas? Google search makes me wonder if these might be Carolina Reapers?
Aloha guys. Was wondering if anybody has tips and tricks for propagating mamaki from cuttings mahalo Nui in advance 🤙🏾
I’m pulling a garden bed next to my house in Hilo because it’s letting in too much water. I’m going to replace it with some water diversion landscaping.
But, I can’t let anything grow on top of it. So I was thinking container plants? Like an Areca palm or something? The only problem is it’s on the north side of the house and is in shade like 90% of the year. I had hapu’u there before and they absolutely loved it, but they’re too big for containers. I guess I could get keikis and try to train them upright.
Any suggestions? Mahalo!
I live in Honolulu and I’m starting my first veggie and herb garden. We have a pretty large balcony so that’s the space I’m working with. I guess more of an urban garden vibe.
Any veggies/herbs in particular that grew well in the climate or some that didn’t for you? Any recommendations or advice very appreciated!
Anyone have experience growing these. Any tips greatly appreciated. I been reading mixed things about planting gai lan in hawaii.
Someone told me that this was a praying mantis egg, but the Internet is telling me it’s a wasp egg mask. What is it?
