Reefs At Risk

Set on the beautiful beaches of Hawaiʻi, “Reefs at Risk” explores the harmful effects some sunscreen chemicals have on coral reefs, marine life and people. In order to protect this fragile ecosystem, Hawaiʻi lawmakers pass a bill to ban the sale of sunscreens with oxybenzone and octinoxate. Need help for my families return!

My grandfather and everyone before him came from the big island, my father moved to California to work and that is where I grew up and have since lived and started a family. I dont have any relatives left on any of the islands after my grandmother passed last spring

My goal is to return to Hawaii to raise my family and embrace my culture and slow down the pace of our lives on a nice big lot, in a small house. I have visited all the islands but I need help finding a small town where we can buy 2-5 acres to raise my kids and have some chickens and dogs, looking for somewhere we can walk to the beach

Can anyone help me find a town that fits these goals? Any island works, just looking for something peaceful

Anyone here had to deal with the Ford Focus/Fiesta transmission issues/recalls?

If you have, I'm just curious to know if you ended up paying to fix it and where y'all went. Or if anyone has experience fixing it themselves. Debating if I should save money and work on it myself or take it to a shop.

Hilo's Wainaku Terrace; problems?

I'm in the middle of buying a condo in Wainaku Terrace on Kauila Street north of Hilo, but I'm having second thoughts as there are FIVE for-sale listings out of just 42 units. Also nine units are delinquent on paying their HOA fees. What is going on there?

Important:###

It is highly likely that your question already has been answered in our subreddit or on the dedicated /r/VisitingHawaii subreddit. Please make sure to use the search function (like this on /r/BigIsland or [like this](https://www.reddit.com/r/VisitingHawaii/search?q=Big Island restaurant subreddit%3AVisitingHawaii&sort=relevance&t=all) on /r/VisitingHawaii) before asking your question, and definitely also have a good look at the dedicated /r/VisitingHawaii subreddit, as that might be a better place to ask your question(s).

ps: the search function of the now inactive /r/HawaiiVisitors is also a gold mine. Try it here.

Found dog!!

Found him running up and down Komohana near Kawailani intersection. He was initially very skittish, so thank you to the kind folks who got out of their cars to help!

He has warmed up to me and is a very sweet dog. Seems like he might belong to someone because he enjoys affection, knows how to sit on command, and takes food gently from my hands. He's also picky about treats lol.

Unfortunately I can't keep him so l'll reach out to the local rescue later today. Just posting here to see if anyone recognizes this dog or is interested in adopting in the future!

Best Mattress Stores

Where is the best place Kona side to get a mattress same day? Any time I’ve purchased a mattress on the mainland it’s been IKEA, so they have them in stock and I can take it home the day I buy it. Do mattress stores have inventory so I can take it home same day?—this would be ideal. I’ve been looking online and all the websites say quick delivery but I’d really like to just walk in and buy one and walk out with it.

Whales off of Hilo today...

Just spent an hour or so at Onekahakaha watching the whales having fun. The Kona winds have the ocean almost glass flat. We were able to spot groups almost 3 miles out. Closest group was about a half mile. I'd have pics but I have a crappy phone...

Looking for 2 horse stock trailer

Need a stock trailer for hauling cattle /sheep mainly. Preferably papered, anywhere on island. Need something, even if it's been sitting in your yard and needs work. Just need it to haul two horses and occasionally sheep and cattle to Kualana foods. Don't want to deal with salvage if possible. If you have something just sitting around, would love to take it off your hands. Located between Honokaa and Waimea.

Lawyer / !nsurance fraud

Sooo, I feel like I was in a real world version of the Twilight zone. Long story short, a person claimed that I backed up into their vehicle. I did not, and a bunch of shadiness insued.

Longer version... A real peach of a woman says I backed up into her car. I only knew to stop and see what was happening because she was screaming like a banshee.

There were cameras at the business where I was. I requested to view the cameras but the police only sent me still images. In the images it is clear that I did not hit the ray of sunshine's vehicle, but a suspicious police officer is claiming that I did.

My claims adjuster also seems to be on the side of the other person, which is confusing. A police officer came to the scene, and after I received a phone call, from police dispatch, I quickly realized that he was not supposed to be there. The person who claimed I hit them called them personally. Officer Shady McShaderson admitted this, and I began secretly recording.

The fact that the police officer was personally called is not strange, but the strange part was that the other police officers, that later arrived , and dispatch had no clue that he was there, and they seemed concerned and confused. I obviously was not supposed to figure that part out, but I did.

I am dealing with my claims adjuster, for my insurance, but I know claims adjusters aren't always on our side and have a very heavy load of claims. My adjuster is asking me to measure my bumper and show where the supposed damages are. The thing is I bought my car used and my entire bumper is covered in little scratches and knicks from before I purchased it.

I'm worried that they can find a spot that would match what the other person is claiming even though these are not from any accident I was in. I don't even think they're from an accident. I think it's just like normal wear and tear that happened before I purchased the vehicle, about a year ago.

I have a backup camera that did not beep and I also have a app in my car that detects my driving and it also did not detect an accident, because there was not one. I was also looking over my shoulder ..I'm old school... as I backed up and I am positive that I did not hit this person.

I looked at their car at the scene and the person did have some paint on their vehicle. Very superfical. Like you could wipe it off with your finger or a towel, probably. The person who claims I hit them also said that they saw me trying to wipe damages off of my car. First of all, I don't know how you can wipe off paint that they claim had been removed from my car and transferred on to theirs. I must be magical, and didn't know. Also, I was looking at my car after they spoke to me because I was confused.

The storm cloud of a person, claiming I backed up into them took pictures of me looking at my car without my knowledge. If they needed pictures of me squatting down/ dropping it like it was hot, in my beach attire...She could have at least asked. Like I said, I did see some white paint on their vehicle. However, it was high up, and it doesn't match the location where my bumper would hypothetically come into contact with their vehicle.

None of it makes sense and no matter how much evidence I present proving that I did not hit them, it seems that people are taking the side of the gem of a human, who most likely staged this.

My vehicle is white and the paint on their vehicle was white. So, for all I know they were just waiting for a white vehicle....with an unsuspecting tourist (in a rental) or poor soul new to the island....that they could easily intimidate and confuse .

I am considering getting a lawyer but I do not have a lot of funds as I am a full-time student. Does anyone know of a lawyer that will accept money after the case is closed etc?

I am just unsure of what to do in this situation. I do have recordings of the police that prove that Officer Honesty wasn't supposed to be there...and it catches all three officers in lies and inconsistencies. The things they said to me were wild.

I have still images of the accident. I did request a video of the accident, but I have not heard back from the police officer.

The story is longer and has more details, but I'm trying to figure out what exactly to tell the adjuster... I told them the truth about everything obviously but I mean should I send the still images, and the recordings, I have when talking to the police officers.... or should I get a lawyer and save it to show that to them...and should get a lawyer?

Has anyone else been in a similar situation? What did you do? How did it turn out? My main concern is that I don't want my insurance rates to go up and also it sucks to be blamed for something I didn't do and to be the victim of a scam. I know I sound paranoid. ..but after I caught the officer being deceptive and shady.... and I knew I didn't hit her ...more really strange things started unraveling. I've never been in a situation like this. I've never even been in an accident that was my fault...still haven't. I guess just trying to figure out what to do to protect myself and not let my insurance rate skyrocket for something I didn't do. Advice welcome.
