Is the weather/flooding expected to be better by the dates I’m visiting? I’m staying at the Royal Lahaina and am wondering if I should just cancel my trip all together considering the recent flood.
Hello all,
I booked a 5 night package in August.
From what I'm seeing the Resort Royal Lahaina has renovated the bungalows.
How far away is it from where the fires were? Should I go further North to the outrigger?
My family and I are heading to Maui Thursday and staying in Kihei for a week. This is a big trip for us and very expensive as well. It seems like the storm did a lot more damage than anyone anticipated. Do you think things will be somewhat OK by then or should I … well not sure since canceling isn’t an option.
My wife and I will be there for a week in Feb. (two middle-agers for 30th/31st/32nd anniversary) and would love any pointers on making the most of the resort. Please share any tips - parking, the lanai experience in the Hokupa’a tower, spa, restaurants, Westin luau opinions, pool, cabanas, beach, etc. Much appreciated!
Essentially the title - we went for a little splash at Twin Falls and had a blast, but now I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole about lepto and I’m in a bit of an anxiety spiral that I’ve put her at risk. Swimming at the falls was on a “Road to Hana with Kids” itinerary and there were a few people already swimming so I just assumed it was safe. And now I’m just sick about it (hopefully not literally!)
We're staying on Napili Bay, arrived last night. This morning walked out our condo rental to the northern end of the beach here, but after walking to water's edge, we got slapped by high surf (not in bathing suits) and sunk into the soft sand as the water pulled away. Spouse has new joint replacements that make this kind of thing dicey in terms of pain if your leg gets twisted a bit. Hobbling up to the highest part of the beach, he said both his knees were hurting and we were unable to continue walking the beach. The sand is so soft here, and for him the effort to slog through it is too tough on the joints. Any recommendations for a beach with more packed sand that might be easier to walk on? Or a place with grass closer to the water and not such a big downward slope as Napili Bay? Thanks much.
We have 2 hrs until we leave, two kids 8 and 5, we're not that hungry, any ideas for something to do close to the airport? Mahalo.
We had planned to do R2H today and of course cancelled tour Wednesday night to make sure we got a full refund. We are in Kaanapali no car.
Aloha. Only here for a couple of days, and the photographer in our party left his tripod attachment plate on his old camera in Florida. We are currently unable to find any on the island, does anyone have a lead on one, or willing to sell one? Shoot me a message.
Mahalo
Is staying tonight at Kahului safe and a good idea?
Our current stay in Kihei ends today noon. Our original plan was to go to RTH but obviously not going today given the weather conditions. If weather permits, we plan to do it tomorrow. Additionally, we need to return our flooded car at the airport and were wondering where to go next.
Does anyone know if baby beach in Lahaina is open?
I know discussions about Hana tour groups has been asked numerous times, but I couldn’t find threads solo versus tour. I am coming in March. I have a rental car and thinking about driving myself. I read about a couple great tour operators I’m thinking about as well. Is it better for me go alone so I can take my time or with a tour so I can enjoy the scenery and not worry about driving?
We had planned to try for a trail today, maybe the Waihee ridge trail, and then pop over to Paia. Does any of that sound salvageable still? We're happy to try a different trail (or none at all if necessary) if there are trails better suited to rainy days. PS we are ok with getting muddy
Thanks!
We (4 adults in their 60's) are visiting Maui from Feb. 20 to March 1. It will be my first time there, but our friends have visited the island twice. We are staying at a condo in South Kihei. I would like some restaurant recommendations from this group. Ideally, I want to support restaurants with native Hawaiian ownership, but if that is not possible, I would like to go to a restaurant run by someone who values the Indigenous culture and promotes the culture responsibly. Thanks in advance.
Hope the cars are not washed away! Scary.
Not familiar with flooding in this area. We're staying near Mama's fish house. Should we be prepared to try and move inland?
I understand the rain is running between 1 and 3 inches an hour in south Maui. Please be careful and stay off the roads.
Hi all! My husband and I are visiting Maui in February for the first time, staying at Andaz - I would like to book a fun boat tour (snorkeling, sailing, food, drinks, hopefully see some whales), small groups preferred. I see everyone recommending trilogy lanai tour which sounds great but it seems as it’s a big boat - up to 50 people? Would love your recommendations!! $300pp budget Thank you
*updating post to clarify, I’m looking for catamaran style tours rather than rafts :)
Obviously it calls for rain tomorrow - husband and I were considering the drive to Twin Falls - is this a crazy drive? Any other suggestions for easy sightseeing? Any other recs much appreciated!
Any store like Sun Bun Fun in Kihei. They are closed till Feb. 2nd 😔
What are you guys up to during this storm? Anyone doing errands like grocery/gym? Or just staying inside with kids and movie?
We're from Oahu and are excited to visit next week for a few nights on our honeymoon! We'll be staying at Andaz and are renting a car too. We'll likely get breakfast at the hotel and be relaxing at the pool for most of the first day, but we're looking for some of your favorite local spots within about a 30 min drive to fill the other two days.
Saw these recommended looking through some other posts, but interested in what else we might be missing
Breakfast - Nalus or Kihei Cafe Nice Dinner - Lineage (not interested in going to Mama's, but open to switching this to another nice sit down if there's a better option), O'o Farm looked interesting too Sunset bar - Gather Local Food - Tin Roof, Da Kitchen, South Maui Gardens Food Trucks Beer - Kohola, Mahalo
Any other must try items in the area?
Had a ton of fun doing new moves with my dji drone
Hi!
Group of 3 girls in their 20s needing hotel advice. Attending Maui April 22-30 or May 1-10. If anything that includes all below - Let me know!
-we are wanting to AVOID children and honeymoon areas/hotels. Honeymooners are ok- but avoid kids at all costs.
(its ok if we see a child, but in terms of being at pool - prefer adults only)
-We also want to stay near ocean but near the night life (if any). (also if this is not feasible due to geography of maui- understandable.)
- We would like to be surrounded by likeminded, younger folks. (if possible)
- Really want a bar by the pool.
- If there is any specials /packages included that discount drinks or food, also interested.
- We also are seeking a well maintained hotel - so avoiding any places with outdated designs.
TIA!
Our flight has an hour left and I'm reading about the storm. And about the advice to stay off the road. Our hotel is in Napili, will it be unsafe to drive up there?
Is it worth it? I can’t even get pricing on line?
