Looking for a 7-1/4” circ saw.

Any good circ saw deals recommendations for diy/ occasional site use on Milwaukee or Dewalt platform. Not necessarily looking for the most powerful, but best value. Will likely buy a battery powered mitre saw in the future and from what I see, Dewalt is the best value..

I’ve used Milwaukee saws in the past and always found them cumbersome. Dewalt seems to have a better ‘feel’. I do own a couple M18 batteries and one Dewalt 20v battery so ideally looking for a tool and battery deal.

Has anyone converted a bench drill press to a mag drill press?

I have a tossed out bench top drill press that I have zero use for because I have a full standing heavy duty drill press.

So I want to convert it to a mag drill because I could actually use that.

Has anyone done this or know someone that has? I was thinking I could turn the base 180 and remove some of the length of the pipe part of the stand so that the drill will go below the level of the base. Then add a magnet of some type to the base.

Best tool brand for my needs

    Hi everyone,

It’s time for me to start my little garage workshop. I’ve been using community workshop spaces for too long. I will keep using the shared workshop until I build a couple of workbenches and tool storage. But right now, I have a big decision to make: Which brand of power tools should I get?

I do a lot of different types of work. I love making furniture for myself, friends and family. It's never for sale, although I could if I get bored enough. I also work on my daily car; I’ll soon work on a project car. I work in the film industry. I own a fair amount of equipment that needs heavy-duty metal carts to move around sets. Primarily, this is welded steel or, more recently, a slotted aluminum extrusion. I do make things out of wood for work as well. Then there's the off stuff around the house. Cutting grass and misc maintenance. Once every blue moon, I may take on a big project for the home. Last year, one of our trees fell on the shed and fence; my mom decided it was a great time to redo all the fencing and even the patio, which I did myself with the help of some friends. I guess what I'm trying to say is. I do a little bit of everything, but I do alot of work.

Right now, I have three companies in mind:

    Makita Milwaukee Bosch

The biggest things I'm thinking about are warranty, durability, and selection of tools.

I'm from Canada. I'm not sure if this is super relevant, but I assume that warranties and products differ between regions.

I've only had experience using Ryobi and Makita. I like Makita, but since it's the tool I've used the most in school and at the community workshop, I feel like I'm biased. I'm open to a different brand if it fits my needs better.

What in the world is this big machine?

Does anyone recognize this? It’s in the back of a shop and I couldn’t see what it is through all the storage, but I’m intrigued.

Any aftermarket "Star+" or "Torx Plus" bits out there?

I hate 1" bits. And the bits that come with Soax 5lb tubs are not long for this earth.

I've used regular torx bits from Vessel JP (Not VESSEL US: Made in Japan... there's a hefty difference in quality.) and a few other brands of Torx bits, but none seat as well as the plus style star/torx bits.

So, I'd love to find 1½", or 4" inch bits that can last through a tub of spax screws.

Anyone have any luck, or ideas?

    Best 4-in-1 pocket screwdriver?

Whats the best on these you know of? Want a couple for my fishing bags. Last one slowly cracked over time, probably due to cheap plastic. Thanks for any suggestions.

why do Chrome Molybdenum Steel impact sockets have scratches all over even when purchased new?

Or is it common for vendors to recycle impact sockets? Amazon basics impact sockets have scratches all over them like https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71hPshXc3rL.jpg

Anything I'm missing about this DeWalt mechanics tool set? Seem like better deal than most.

    https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-Mechanics-Tool-Set-205-Piece-DWMT81534/304217698

I just picked this up from Home Depot for $115. It's a little more expensive than the $100 Craftsman, Husky or Kobalt sets - but seems to me a nice middle ground between those sets and the higher quality sets from Gearwrench, Tekon and Milwaukee.

What really caught my eye is this set contains almost no filler bits. You actually get mostly sockets... 115 of them. Am I missing something or is this a really comprehensive set at a great value? Do these wrenches suck or something? I thought a set like this would sell closer to $150+.

Comparing to this DeWalt set (this is what some consider the best set), it seems like $40 more dollars for just 20 more 1/2 sockets isn't worth it unless your working on cars or something: https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-Chrome-Vanadium-Mechanics-Tool-Set-192-Piece-DWMT75049/300937332

I tried soaking my pliers in vinegar overnight to remove rust. This is what happened

I'm experimenting with using vinegar to remove rust and hard water deposits. I submerged these old, rusty Fat Max channel-locking pliers in vinegar overnight, then rinsed and scraped off deposits with a metal-bristled brush. The results are pictured here. They turned ... brown. Light brown, but it's not what I was expecting. It's better than they were – unfortunately it did not occur to me to take it before picture, but you can see the area where the vinegar had less contact with the metal and where my brush was unable to reach – but still.

    Can someone explain what happened?

Looking for the Perfect Pocket-Sized Multitool with Great Pliers (Budget ~200€)

    Hi all,

I’m in the market for a compact multitool that can fit comfortably in my pocket. My main priority is a good set of pliers, so I’m willing to compromise on the quality of the blade if necessary. Here’s what I’m looking for:

    • Compact size: Pocketable without being bulky.
    • Quality pliers: This is my most important requirement.
    • Modularity: I’d like the option to remove or swap tools if possible, preferably using screws.
    • Aftermarket or custom options: While I can’t fabricate parts myself, I’m open to buying custom or aftermarket components.
    • Budget: Around 200€ (I’m in the EU).

I’ve been considering a custom Victorinox (or “Dragonox”), because they’re small, versatile, and with custom scales, I could add extras like tweezers, a pen, a toothpick, and even a needle. I also love that I can put a fire starter in the corkscrew slot or add a screwdriver. However, the pliers on Victorinox tools don’t seem great, which is a big downside for me.

On the other hand, the Leatherman Wave+ offers fantastic functionality and quality tools, but it feels a bit too bulky for everyday pocket carry.

Does anyone know of a multitool that combines portability, quality pliers, and maybe some customizability? I’d love to hear your recommendations!

Help Me Decide: Craftsman 2000 26" top box, Husky, Wen, Olympia, or something else?

Alright, so I need better tool storage at work. I've been using a BucketBoss for about 2 years and it's been fine - I enjoy the portability - but I have to carry my socket sets in a different case and that case sucks a big one. Sockets won't stay put.

I'd like to consolidate everything into a single box. I don't mind needing 2 hands to carry it. Recently, I tried out the 3-drawer Klein and Toughbuilt modular boxes and they were nice for what they are but the drawers are not deep enough for my sockets (roughly 3" tall plus 0.5" on the organizer trays). I know I can add on a 2-drawer ModBox or a pair of 1-drawer StackTechs but then weight of JUST the combined boxes starts getting in the 60 lbs area. At that point, I wonder if I'm just better off lugging around a 26" top box. I like the wide drawers that the modular boxes simply don't offer. Perhaps I should look into the wheeled boxes that Klein and Toughbuilt have.

    Anyway, suggestions?

I'm thinking about getting a US General 1-drawer service cart for when I'm at work, not on a job site, and then something portable/semi portable on top that I work from but can grab and haul with me when I need to go somewhere.

The Craftsman is 18 gauge steel while the others are 21.

    Corded Oscillating Multi-Tool (Canada)

For Canadians @CanadianTire. I am in the market for the Milwaukee M12 Multitool. Randomly found the corded Mastercraft Multitool. The online reviews are spectacular. Picked up one for the price till I get the M12 version. Any feedback? Thank you.

Whats the best full socket set without any nonsense bits to take up space? I'd like something with a lifetime warranty, but it doesn't have to be high dollar snap on. I'd like to keep it under $300, I live near harbor freight, northern tool, lowes and home depot.

    Weird drill question.

The company I work for has devised this... whatever idea to lift a 600lb mass by turning a screw with a cordless drill.

Probably don't need to explain how this ruins drills. I want a corded drill that can do the job. It's a 1/2 inch bit connected to a screw drive... that sadly I don't know the dimensions to. It has get like 2 and a half feet from the ground.

Anyhow the question is. What's the strongest corded drill I can buy for turning a too heavy torque without breaking quickly. I will expense this. Price is not an issue.
