Troubleshooting weak rear drum brake help.

Have an old virago 250 with a drum brake I can't seem to tighten up, offers extremely little stopping power. I've already tightened up the slack to the maximum (end of video), cleaned out the interior of the drum and adjusted the pedal position but to no avail, still end up grabbing the front brake to stop even from a couple miles and hour, any ideas?

Engine swap?

Trying to find a 400 cc engine or something similar to put into a dirt bike that I have. You guys know where to look? Any engine in particular. It would be great if it is somewhat budget friendly.

Advice needed - Engine woes

Hey all, need some advice if possible?

I've been slowly working on a VS750 project over the last year or so, (very sporadically) and I was hoping that the end was in sight. It was running when I got it, but pretty much everything else on the bike aside from the engine needed work. Recently I linked up an aux tank and tried to turn it over, the revs ran really high and there was fuel dripping through the rear air filter. Took the back carb off, stripped it down, tweaked the float hight and replaced the valve seat and needle, put it all back together. The leak has stopped, but now the revs go really high even with the pilot screw almost fully closed, then I noticed thick white smoke starting to come from the exhaust.

Is it possible that fuel could have seeped through the intake into the engine? There is a gassy smell but there was anyway from a few tiny spills whilst filling the aux tank and disconnecting pipes. Would fuel in the engine cause thick white smoke like that and the high revs? Given that it was only running for 15 seconds or so would emptying out the oil, letting it sit for a couple of days, flushing it and then filling with new oil/filter eliminate it? Have I cooked my engine? All advice appreciated :D

Would this be a decent project bike?

I found this on Facebook and curious to know if this looks like a decent project. Here's the description:

Had the bike for almost 2 years, at the beginning of the 24 season it started running funny, about 2 weeks into the season it wouldn’t maintain as idle then just wouldn’t start. Compression test showed less than 50psi on all cylinders. Leak down test showed leaks out of the intake valves, most likely scored the valve seats. 30,000ish miles, Custom ice white fairings(originals were trashed), carbs were rebuilt, comes with an extra rebuild kit. Plugs were done, oil and oil filter, new air filter. And new ish dunlop rear tire with around 1500 miles on it.

This would be my first time doing something like this. I'm not expecting it to be quick, easy, or cheap but the season is almost over where I am and I'll have time over the winter to work on it. I have access to tools and would say I'm reasonably mechanically inclined. He's asking $1,000. Thanks for any advice!

Edit: Going to keep shopping to find something more suited to a beginner. Thanks to the people who replied!

NWT Cycletronic

Has anybody in North America, gotten their hands on an x3 unit?

If so, is it worth getting over the x21 line of products?

Im really interested in using one on my 75 CB750K, as it needs a new harness already and I’d like to make the switch to a lithium battery. Unfortunately there are only a handful of videos about both generations of products and most being just unboxings with no demo.

Recommendations for ‘05 Ninja 250 Cafe/Street fighter build

I am trying to upgrade the look of my ninja 250 from stock. Would love recommendations for a new circle headlight, pod filters to go with a dyno jet kit, and tips for rerouting reg/rect, and other components. I'm gonna keep the stock gas tank, but I'm not sure how people go about hiding the old fairing bolt holes. Also keeping stock seat.

Not really trying to go for any performance mods. Just going for upgrading the look. Going with pod filters just because it will open up space to reroute things without the massive airbox. I found some adapters for the triple tree so I could run renthal bars but they are like $200. If anyone has found a cheaper way to do it let me know.

I attached photos of the stock bike (grey, somewhat torn apart) and some builds I'm looking at for inspiration. Thanks in advance!

Petcock recommendations?

What are your recommendations for petcock manufacturers (bonus points for fuel filter reccs too).

I am about to pull the trigger on a pair of Drag Specialties 0705-0304

Any opinion on these?

Just bought (3) 1981 Suzuki 450s

Third bike not pictured. All in varying condition. One runs with a fuel leak, one cranks, and one doesn't run. My best friend/roomate has never worked on motorcycles before and he's begged me to get us one all summer, so here we are. I've got a little bit of experience, I had a similar setup when I was like 13 with three Kawasaki kx-100s, but that was a long time ago. I wanted to put this out there and get some advice from those who do this more often, how your first day working on the bike goes, what you look for when buying a bike that doesn't run, etc. I plan to pull them apart and give them a good clean just for the hell of it, and go from there. Any advice, wisdom, criticism, humor is more than welcome and greatly appreciated!!

Aprilia RS660 2021 stalling

I have a newly bought 2021 RS660. I always had some "difficulties" when riding it shortly after it stood still... (Cold start) It seems to be getting worse, to the point where it now stalls when pulling in the clutch the first few minutes of riding it (Usually awkwardly at an intersection) and has troubles to start up again.... I was thinking idle rpm might be to low, but the problem doesn't occur when starting up in the garage, only after riding a few meters.... Starting the engine cold (before riding and stalling) sound normal and goes without issues... I doesn't seem to be a known issue of Aprilia, therefor I'm hoping you guys might have an idea... Tldr; Aprilia stalls after riding a few meters when pulling in the clutch, but not at startup nor after riding longer... Only in the beginning minutes of a ride.

84 Honda Shadow 700

I've been rebuilding this bike for a bit now. I recently had it running but it only starts if I am jumping it from my car. After a few times trying to figure out why I can't even get it to turn over like that anymore. Also when it's not being jump-started it doesn't even click, I'm not sure where to go from here so any guidance would be greatly appreciated. A new battery was put in it last month too

yz125 running rough

I just got an old yz125 running that I bought a couple months ago. It runs but there’s a weird issue with the power when your on the throttle, it’ll randomly cut out and then give back the power almost causing a wheelie in high gears. Does anyone know what might be causing this weird fluctuation in power???

1975 Dt250 piston and piston ring replacement

Hello, so ive got a 1975 dt250 which I got running, but the piston rings are shot. It smokes like hell, far more then it should, and I replaced the crank seals. Not 100% sure the piston rings are causing my trouble but they are shot for sure. Wondering about what year piston and or piston rings will work with my bike, and what oversized means when looking for rings, any info is greatly appreciated!

00-02 chain guide on 03-04 zx6r swingarm

My 2004 zx6r has been a bit of a project since day one, but a few months ago on the highway I felt something pop. When I got home, I found my chain guide broken. The chain guide (55020-1806) has been discontinued and I can't find one anywhere. Looking at the swingarm on the 00-02 model, it looks very similar. Has anyone tried drilling and tapping the mounting holes for the 00-02 chain guide on the 03-04 zx6r swingarm? Even though that's an older bike, the oem chain guide is still available.

I don't like the idea of drilling holes in my swingarm but, I'm out of options short of replacing the whole rear end of the bike with parts off an 05-06 or 07-08. I'll make another post when this project is back on the road.

Cb550 project

Hey everyone pretty excited to say I am one step closer to my project being complete. Picked up an untitled roller today that I can scavenge parts off of for my 71 cb500k. The roller is a 76 cb550k and came in pieces. Looking to do a full engine rebuild over the next couple of weeks. Beyond that though, I am not really sure what should be next. If anyone has any tips I’m open to them. My plans are to rebuild the engine, upgrade carbs (looking for a viable option), rewire with a moto M unit, and update the front forks and brakes with a gxsr 1000 front end to finish mockup and then break everything down for paint and powder coat.

I still need to find a good tank though. Anyone know where I can find one?
