Thailand has the biggest decrease in average daily screen time over the past 5 years, from 9 hours and 11 minutes per day in 2019 down to 7 hours and 58 minutes in 2024.

Why is my Thai wife so convinced companies are trying to cheat me?

And I do not mean local shops or vendors who jack up the price as soon as they see I'm falang. I mean actual large corporations with solid track records.

My mouse stops working. Her: They sell something that's not good. Trying to cheat you! (Nope, needed to plug it in and recharge in the internal battery.)

Trouble navigating my Thai bank's web site. Her: Maybe they want to cheat you. (No, they changed some things around on the UI.)

And the latest, my medical insurance that I've had more than a year. She didn't believe the agent about using our nearest private hospital until we drove there (at her insistence) and had staff there look up my carrier and confirm coverage

Then there's the life insurance piece of my medical coverage. The payout figure showing on the carrier's app is what the agent told us it would be. The hard copy of the policy shows a much lower figure.

Her: He (the agent) lied. He wants to cheat you.

I told her maybe he just made a mistake, or someone else made a typo, or there was a glitch in their software and the figure didn't copy over correctly. She's not buying it; in her mind, the agent lied, and that's it. I tell her we need to get my questions answered first before we call someone a liar.

Paying 12 months rent in advanced

I’m looking to rent a condo with a years contract and I’m thinking of just paying the whole 12 months up front. I’ve done some googling but no solid answers so just coming on here to see if anyone else has done it and the experience they’ve had and if it’s something that most landlords would accept? I did read something about tax implications for the landlord but that’s all

Absolutely Horrendous Air Quality

How have other people been affected by the recent smog? It's been pretty annoying, and to top it off, there's been a power outage in my area.

Eviction laws in Thailand with condo rentals?

Are Thai laws on evicting renters strong or weak like the UK giving tenants far too much power?

If someone did not pay their rent etc can you just change the locks ? What is the situation in Thailand? Asking as a am potentially looking to buy a condo.

With the current events going on in the US, will Thailand still offer direct flights to the USA?

Title. Following Trump's inauguration, he has messed with the FAA (for lack of a better word), 3 planes crashed in 4 days, and an entire air traffic tower in the SF Bay Area (thankfully not SFO) is unstaffed. Would Thailand still offer direct flights to the US?

Any pc enthusiast here?

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask but my dad is visiting Bangkok and I want to buy a Corsair Vengeance RGB 16GB DDR5 6000MHz CL30 with AMD EXPO. The white variant isn’t available in my country, and I couldn’t get it from China because they don’t sell single sticks. It costs $75 here. Does anyone know where I can get it in Bangkok and how much it costs?

Indie/Alternative or university radio stations

Any radio stations that play indie or alternative music? Usually, university stations are the ones do this, but I don't know how is it over there? Thank you.

Any series / movie recommendation ?

Few years ago I was really into Thai series, and I'd like to watch some again. Here are all the series I watched, if you have any recommendations based on this little list, it'd be nice :

- Girl From Nowhere (objectively not the best, but it got me into thai series so I have a lot of affection for this serie)

- The Judgement

- Underclass

- The Stranded

- All the Sleepless Society series ( 'Insomnia' is probably one of my favorite series ever)

So yeah, beside Underclass which is kind of inane and made for teenagers, I mostly watched dark and serious thing, and I'd like to see more series in this mood. So if you have any recommendation for me, please let me know ! You can also recommend any kind of series, I'm curious enough to take a look at anything. Thanks in advance.

Pollution

I just got back from Thailand and the pollution/ air quality was really bad and i had already saw an article saying it was going to be bad prior. But i didn’t take it serious and i was out side everyday in Bangkok for long hrs, even exercised outside. Now im back home and i have a bad cough and mucus coming up. Its improved from when i first got back as its been a little over a week now. But what’s the best way to avoid this, wearing a mask next time? And if this has happened to you, what do you do to take care of it and get better? Been drinking lots of Mullen tea and taking cough medicine.

SOS: 2 Foreigners Marriage - Limited Time. Burmese/Canadian couple

Hi guys, urgently need guidance, please help!!

I am a Canadian Citizen, my partner is Burmese.

Side note* the current Myanmar war situation is so bad and my partner is being forced to go to the war, so we need to accelerate our marriage! I can’t lose him…i’m so afraid.

My questions:

  • My non-impediment/single-affidavit doc, will it be provided from the Embassy IN BANGKOK or i need to prep?
  • What other documents do I need?
  • How many days will it take to issue the marriage certificate? (Online says same day but)
  • Witnesses? 2? 4? If required
  • So then, do i need to be present in Thailand during the entire processing time? (i have work and can't afford to stay too long).

Is there special exemption requests? (Because of this current situation with Myanmar’s war), My stay is also short: March 7-March18.

If anyone have had any experiences similar, please your guidance will be very appreciated🙏🏼 Thank you so much..

Smokers in Apartment. What to do?

Hey guys, I'm currently living at an apartment in BKK which is close to where I work but recently I have been noticing STRONG scents of cigarette / marijuana smoke in the shared spaces ex : Hallways, Elevators

And I was wondering what I could do in this situation as I'll be here for a long time and I can't stress enough how the smell is extremely STRONG as if they were holding/smoking a lit ciggie/joint and walking over the hallways and even in the elevator. Shit gives me a headache and a funny feeling in my chest every time.. not to mention Ive had a severe psychiatric reaction from marijuana before which required treatment for months..

I caught a glimpse of the guy once and they were Chinese so I don't even know how I can tell them to stop..

Also, I've informed the juristic persons several times and all they managed to do was put up a sign in the hallways/elevators which did not deter the mf at all.. So now I feel hopeless :/

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks guys :)

Working Towards Residency as a 40yo Single US Nomad w/ FT Empl

I know residency & citizenship gets discussed a lot here, and I've read a lot about it. But my specific circumstances have me puzzled how best to work towards permanent residency and ultimately citizenship in Thailand. Here are the facts, and I'm just going to be direct about savings & income since they are clear factors in this:

  • Age 40 single man (I would hope to find love in Thailand, and that may simplify things if I do, but I'm a belt-and-suspenders kind of guy and don't want to count on it)
  • US Citizen (as such, I don't mind paying income tax in Thailand because it's just going to get deducted from what I already pay as a nomad to the US, right?)
  • Retirement assets right around the minimum for LTR visa "wealthy global citizen"
  • Annual income over 3M THB / 100k USD
  • Approx 5 years out from my retirement goals
  • Elementary Thai language skills, but I will be prioritizing getting fluent now that I've decided on going down this path
  • I am currently overseas looking to return to Thailand once I figure out what kind of visa to return on and get approved

I work as a full-time contractor for a small, not-for-profit company in the US. I have worked only for them for 8+ years and worked part-time for them much longer. They will sing my praises in any kind of recommendation letter I might need to ask for vouching for my hard work and stable, long-term employment. However, I am technically self-employed (a contractor) and I couldn't become an employee. This is a great job, and quitting it before retirement isn't an option.

I don't want to wait until I'm 50 to start working towards citizenship. Also, the LTR "wealthy global citizen" requirements seem to require investing in Thai stocks and bonds, which appear to have an abysmal return.

Given all of that, what are my options to work towards permanent resident? I read that I need a non-immigrant visa, so which visa should I apply for?

Thank you all. I really appreciate the help.

Bolt, grab, taxis bkk airport

Hopefully this can help someone... A year or so ago.. Taxis at the airport were a nightmare... so started using Bolt... generally asked to get picked up in 3rd floor departures as a bit easier.

Well today bit of a mess up. Driver said he was actually downstairs ground floor so I get my bag and off I went... holy s#it... it was madness...

Grab pickup points were so full of people I looked over at the taxi stands and could see almost no people just taxis...

Driver who was really nice also misunderstood so he went back to 3rd floor... si got me bags and off I go again...

Anyway true story 😀

Next time I think ill go old fashioned and use the taxis... (I day this because now at the grab point there are litterraly 10 times more people than at the taxi stands) As long as your taxi is metered should be ok (I think this may have been the problem for most people, not sure if taxis metered and being ripped not like grab, Bolt you get a set price and pay)

Anyway hotel now...

Hope it helps

AIS false advertising and no refund. What to do now.

So AIS did not honor their contract as advertised on their platform.

I have purchased a month data of 1GB AND unlimited use of AIS SuperWifi.

However I am unable to get AIS SuperWifi to work so I go to AIS telco to find out. The counter told me that it is "Actually not included in the plan". And I have to PAY extra to use the AIS SuperWifi.

But under my plan, it explicitly stated "unlimited use of AIS SuperWifi".

So would this be considered a breach of contract? Do I need a lawyer?

So counter lady told me "No Refunds".

Air rifle in Thailand

Just got a question about air rifles and I'm seeing mixed or lack of information, from what I can see they're classed as a firearm in Thailand after a certain power threshold.
Am I able to bring my own into the country as a citizen of Thailand and/or is there any legal processes I'll need to look into?
For reference it's just a break action .177 plinker and I am a dual citizen with an ID.

To Whom Does This Royal Cypher Belong?

I have encountered many Thai royal cyphers and their variations, both during my travels and online, and I have always admired their visual aesthetics and had a reverence for their symbolic power. I've come across this particularly pretty cypher today which I hadn't seen before. Would anyone be able to identify it?
