Are e-scooters a practical option for daily commutes in Bangkok?

I've been doing a bit of research on escooters in Thailand. Specifically in Bangkok and wonder how likely it will be to ride or see others ride daily and for what reason. Would you ride for daily commutes? Just for fun? Or just not at all?

Christmas in Thailand?

Hello, bit of a weird question.

I run a small business in a western country. I outsource some work to a lovely fellow who lives in Thailand. With the holiday season approaching, I have a question.

How does business treat the holiday season? Do Thai employers give gifts? A holiday bonus or some kind? I was thinking of sending money as a gift, but I don't know if that would be appropriate or not.

He does really good work for me and I want him to know that I appreciate it.

Edit: Thank you everyone for commenting! You've been extremely helpful!

It's too late to mail any gifts, but I will put together a bonus package for him!

I appreciate all the feedback! I'm now going to vanish into obscurity like the throwaway I am.

Have a wonderful christmas and new year!

What happened to that Thai singer that got a private video leaked onto the internet many years ago?

Hello everybody!! Greetings!

Well. I am in the other side of the world and we barely get news from Thailand. However a few days ago a local celebrity was news because of a sex video so I was reading about celebrity private videos leaked and learned that a Thai singer suffered that about 18 years ago. A woman named Anna. What Happened to her? Did she become more famous? or went into hiding? or did it happened like a smoke screen to hide a bigger scandal like happens in other countries?

How Thai Society reacts to those videos?

Just FYI Grab app here is still in Thai despite changing language to English

It actually used to work before. All the restaurants used to be in English (Tho they were poorly translated). This has been happening for a couple months now. Anybody wondering how I can change it back to the way it used to be? There was a post here pertaining to that issue about 4 months ago with lots of comments saying they're having the same issue. Android OS issues? Grab app update issues? Any specific OS or app version Grab needs to be at? Just tired of screenshotting everything and translating w/ Google

The best ex-pat forum for Bangkok Thailand

Is there any forum in Thailand that is considered the "go to" forum.

I am in Bangkok and will be purchasing a condo soon and would like to ask some questions regarding the real estate offer and purchase.

Is there a "general-purpose" forum to address the above concern and other questions that I may have in the future?

Fedex or Thailand Post address to hold for pickup?

Hello, I am currently traveling around Thailand but need to receive some documents from the US. I will be in Bangkok the week of Christmas and am debating between having the documents sent via FedEx or US/Thailand Post. I will be staying at a hostel and am hoping that either will hold the envelope until pickup and i can send the documents to the fedex or post address. I've heard of hotels holding mail but was unsure if a hostel would. I emailed the hostel but haven't heard back. It looks like both provide a "hold for pickup" service, however when I attempted to speak with the post and a fedex employee neither seemed to understand what I was asking to confirm they still provide that service. I was leaning more towards fedex and even called the US branch near my family and the employee said he had no clue. Has anyone used a fedex or post address and hold until pickup in Bangkok recently? Thanks!

“Why do foreigners in Thailand refuse to use the Thai language?”

“Can someone please explain why foreigners who come to live in Thailand refuse to use the Thai language? Today, I encountered a group of foreigners who asked me for directions to a certain place. They seemed to be in a hurry and expected an immediate response. I had to apologize because I am not fluent in foreign languages, so I had to use a translation app to help communicate. Despite this, the conversation was still difficult. One of the men in the group started to get visibly upset with me. Even though I tried using the app to explain, he said something I couldn’t understand, with a tone and body language that clearly indicated frustration.

Afterward, his friend quickly stepped in and pulled him away, and a woman from the group came over to speak to me. She tried to communicate more politely, and that made it easier to understand each other. I was then able to give them the correct directions to their destination.

This incident didn’t happen in a tourist area but in a regular community where most people are Thai, and as far as I know, this group of foreigners has been living in the community for some time, not just visiting temporarily. This makes me wonder why they haven’t made more effort to learn Thai. Understanding the language and culture of the place they live in would make communication easier and help them integrate into the community better. It would also help avoid misunderstandings and create a better relationship between them and the local people, reducing uncomfortable situations like this in the future.”

Of course, I used a translation app for all the text.

Doesn’t it affect general public health and what about obesity?

All I could constantly see while travelling around was copious amount of sugary drinks, packaged snacks and ready to eat meals as part of local lifestyle amongst the thais. Somewhere I stayed for a couple of weeks, at my usual 7-11 i could see same people consuming these items day in and day out. How does this affect general health of the thais? For one, you don’t see obesity that visually? Whats the scene?

Send a parcel to Canada is not possible with Thai post at the moment. How can I do?

I need to send a parcel to Canada urgently. I was planning to use Thailand Post's EMS service, but due to the postal strike in Canada, that’s not possible.

Is it still possible to send it with FedEx, DHL, or Fastship?

I’m really stressed because my client needs their order as soon as possible.

Thank you very much, and have a great day, everyone!

Employment after graduation

I am planning to attend a bachelor program for international students in biomedical science at Mahidol university. I saw that the degree is accredited by the Australian Medical Council and the Medical Board of Australia. But there is also no internship or placement year offered for the students at the end of the final year. My aim is to be able to work as a medical laboratory assistant or as a medical technologist in Thailand for at least one year after graduation. Is there anyone who knows if that is possible or not? If possible, can you please guide me on how can I achieve that. Thank you very much.

GF family owns 7 gold shops and say my dowry must come from one of their shops. My ex wife's family will give me a discount if I rebuy the gold from the first wedding to use in the 2nd.

How likely is it that my next wife will know it came from my first wedding?

Problems with grab drivers requesting ride cancelled, and pay in cash

I have had a problem with grab drivers arriving for pickup, and asking me to cancel the ride on the app, then pay them in cash for the ride

I know 'this is Thailand' but do not want to do this if it means I will not be covered by any insurance, or have any right for legal action as a customer if there is an accident.

I occasionally have to go to an an adjacent city. The trip takes an hour, usually the charge is around 600 baht. Half of the drivers request me to cancel, pay them personally.

One explained out of the 600, he only gets 400 if pay via the app.

I understand, but I need to protect myself.

I tip the ones who take the trip well.

This is really annoying, often I have to go through this process with several drivers, and end up wasting an hour before getting a driver to take me. (Often an electric vehicle)

My complaint is there should be an easy/obvious way to report these drivers.

The last driver drove 100 feet, then told me to get out. He had 'started' the trip on the app.

He explained to my gf he wanted me to cancel, and pay him personally.

He parked within sight, kept messaging me to cancel. We had a standoff of sorts for 30 minutes. Eventually he cancelled. Officially.

I fumbled on the app, looking for some way to report this. This was the second driver to do this for this trip.

I could not find an option beyond 'driver ask me to cancel'. I think that they wanted direct payment outside of the app is crucial. Cheats grab out of the contractual cut they get.

If the rates are too low, I do not set them, and this does not fix them.

As a customer, this sucks.

Can I Use My Own Router with AIS Fiber?

I don't like the Super WIFI 6 router they gave me with my 2Gbps/1Gbps plan as the ethernet ports are capped at 1Gbps and I want a 10Gbps port on the back, plus DD-WRT as the software interface for my router

But what would happen if I connected my own fiber modem / router instead?

Reddit does hate Buddhist calendar.

Any post with a picture from Thai media (like Twitter or Facebook) that has a Buddhist calendar in it can get your post removed by the mod for being a fake picture.

They just didn’t realize that it is A.D. + 543 and will think that we posted a fake year far in the future.

So, even if the picture you captured is in all English, the small portion of it that includes the Buddhist calendar, like 30/11/2567, will easily get the post deleted by the mod.
