I travel from Cambodia to Laos via the southern border at Nong Nok. Does anyone know if there are ATMs on Don Det? I can find different information on the internet.
I was heading back to our hotel in Luang Prabang and decided to get a ride there.
It was a 4 minute drive from the pub to our hotel.
My partner said we should use Loca. I said we should ask the Tuk Tuk driver and see if he’ll match the price (Loca said 42k with a car).
I asked the Tuk Tuk driver and he said he’d have to charge 100k for the drive and said some story about needing to turn around.
We walked away and the driver went back to his phone so we ended up ordering from Loca.
Is there some dynamic I’m missing?
In my experience elsewhere, the taxis/drivers will barter down, eager for my service. In this instance, the driver had no worries. Are they trying to avoid being used for other services?
Any ideas?
Hello,
I plan to go to Vang Vieng for Boun bang fai, as it was told to me that was one of the best place to enjoy this fest. I've read that this year, it'll occurs from the 10 to 12 may. But today, someone told me that while all villages will make Boun bang fai the weekend of may the 10th, in Vang Vieng it will be the 25th.
Can someone confirm or infirm this ?
And also, do you think it the best place, or maybe there are other good spot in Laos to enjoy this festival?
Thanks
I am planning to coming to Pakse for a couple days, bus from Bangkok then a bus to Seim Reap. I want to know how easy is it to book a tour or hire a driver for a couple days. Want to do the Pakse Loop, visit Vat Phou and possible 4,000 islands. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Allergy Translation
Hi,
I am traveling to Laos among other South East Asian countries for about a month but have a severe food allergy. I was planning on finding or making allergy cards for my travels.
Can I please have assistance translating that I am severely allergic to fish, please do not feed me meals cooked with fish.
Laos is one of the few languages I haven’t been able to find free translations for.
(As someone who is bilingual in Spanish I recognize Google translate isn’t always accurate and would like assistance)
Thank you
Last year I visited Vientiene, and next week will visit again.
Last time I went to Saylomyen BBQ restaurant

If any other good place worth visiting near to the city area, please recommend.
this might be a complete long short and the opposite of listening to stranger danger but fuck it:

Is it worth going to Laos early June, or the weather is not going to be bearable? Thinking of a few day, up to a week trip there
Me and my friend are currently on our way to Laos, our travel itinerary is as follows;
Vientiane 1 night Vang Vieng 3/4 nights 2/3 nights Luang Prabang
Then we want to cross over from Luang Prabang to Chiang Mai, I have been told my a friend that the slow boat down the river is an amazing experience but he did it the other way round (Chiang Mai - Into Laos) so I was just wondering if it would be possible to do it the other way round, From Laos to Thailand (Preferably to Chiang Mai area) and if so, how I would actually go about doing it ! also if anyone has any suggestions for our itinerary please let me know. :)
I live in Thailand and need a printed map of Laos, something very high quality and sizeable. Any ideas where I can order one?
Please leave a comment here
I speak so-so Thai. I'm doing a trip through rural Laos. Am I more likely to be understood in Thai or English?
Hi!
Just wondering if there is a bus going from Muang Xay (Oudomxay) to the Laos/Vietnam border? Trying to get from Nong Kiau to Sapa (Vietnam) but it’s not super clear on how to get there.
Thanks!
I am currently planning a trip to Laos at the end of December this year. I will probably be in Nong Khiaw during western new year (January 1st) and was wondering if everything operates as normal there on that day. I did read that January 1st is a public holiday and employees get the day off, but village life is often different from the city life. I want to take the public boat to Maung Ngoi either on 31/12 and come back on 01/01 or on 01/01 and come back on 02/01. Any idea if this will be possible?
Hi everyone, I’m travelling soon to Laos from Cambodia. I’m European on vacation and read about visa on arrival. But I don’t seem to find the official page and I wanted to know how much is it and where can it be done - if it’s possible in all passings? Also, I read a bit about Luang Prabang, Kuang Si, Vang Vieng and Vientiane. If someone could share, I will have about 5 days in Laos, what did you love the most that you consider unmissable about Laos for a couple? Thank you!
First of all, greeting everyone. I'm planning to move from Myanmar to Laos in next 2 months. Although, my post might be ignorant please be patient and kind to me.
My family consisting 3 people, planning to move to Laos as soon as possible. We have already found where to stay but I'm feared that our budgets will run out since we all don't jobs. I'm just only 18 years with no experience in work(although I used to work in family online shopping business a few years ago) so is there any chance I can get a job to cover some of the expense for my family? Currently, I might be the one who can get a job since the other two are too old and too young for the actual jobs.
And also what might be the fastest way to learn Laotian language?
Pls don't downvote my post. Thank you.
Seems you have to get a bus, then a ferry. Can I skipped the bus and drive my car to the ferry?
I'm headed to the Bolaven area to visit some coffee farms and wondering about good places to stay, probably in Paksong but open to other suggestions. I've just started to plan the trip but looks like there's not much on Booking.com or AirBnb (which I've never used in Laos, but hey). Budget is US$20, though if there's nowhere good for that much can be flexible. Khob jai!
I’m visiting Laos soon and going to Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng and I just want to know how to get around. Me and my boyfriend are traveling together, he doesn’t have a drivers licence and I got mine about two years ago now (standard UK). We’ve never driven a motorbike before but everywhere is saying that’s the best way to see the countryside there. Everyone either has motorbike practice or just had way more balls than I do🤣 I’d like to know what people recommend? To bike or not to bike?
I made a short video. Thank you.
Looking for any info on an off road dirtbike or 4x4 excursion down the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos. Looking for 3/4 days but can only find week+ long online. Planning to be Luang and Vientiane based but happy to travel out further and happy to get ourselves there. Mid-May time. Any info massively appreciated, cheers!
Edit: to add off-road dirt bike
I only have 2 weeks in laos so after a couple of days in the capital i want to go to vang vieng and do a bike loop. Any suggestions? Like 3-5 days
Does anyone have experience with bringing viagra into Laos? Is it an illegal drug in the country or is it perfectly fine to bring in?
