Canadians in Chiang Mai

Hey everyone planning to move to Chiang Mai in October. Been to Thailand before and absolutely loved it. Was wondering if there are a significant number of Canadian expats living there.

Travelling to Wat Pha La and Sticky Waterfall without a tour?

Hi everyone, thanks for the help. Trying to save money on the multiple tours I’m booking. I think it would be nice to go these places on our own, without a tour, but I’m worried because we won’t be driving and no motorcycle/scooter.

Any idea for cost for taxi from Chiang Mai city centre? Is it easy to book return back or will we be stranded?

nice/clean accomendation with a nice view recommendations?

hey!

do you guys have any recommendations when searching for accomendation in cm with a nice view?

i’m looking for semi-long term to long-term living (anywhere between 3-8 months to 1-3 years) depending on what I can find.

i’m single looking for a 1 bedroom solution (studio, condo, hotel, tiny house etc).

my budget is 15-20K.

my biggest criteria is a nice view of the mountains and cleanliness/modern.

is this attainable in chiang mai? where should I look?

it doesn’t have to be central (although, idk if there are any fresh buildings/housings far out?)

thankful for any guidance!

Anybody stayed at Greenery Landmark?

How’s the accommodation there? They mentioned that utility bills are to be paid separately but it is a reasonable rate. Anybody has stayed there and how was the experience?

Any chance at all of finding a bar that'll stay open for champions league matches (2am)?

A few years ago there was a sports bar on Ratchmanka? Road called something like KT Sports. I remember she used to close the shutters and stay open until all hours of the night and show late football matches. That bar seems to be gone so I'm wondering if anyone living here knows if there's an alternative option around the city these days to watch late night sports?

Getting casual clothes made

I'm tired of never finding interesting, well made mens clothes anywhere. So I want to buy some fabrics (linen, cotton, hemp), and get some nice casual things made bespoke. First guess would be Worarat market for fabrics. Has anyone got any leads on better places to find nice fabric, and any tailor recommendations who are good at casual wear, not just suits and formal shirts? Thanks 🙏

Experience with affidavit and translation process with US consulate

Hi all, hoping I can get some experiences from others in this sub/city. I'm getting married to my thai fiancé this week and we are doing the paperwork now. I have an appointment at the US consulate for an affidavit of no previous marriages and eligibility to marriage. The paper I was given was blank though. I'm not too savvy on legal writing so will someone at the consulate be able to help me with the "statement" or do I simply write "I've never been married before" ? lol

Also, if anyone has any recommendations for translations services, that's next on my list. Though I was recommended Bangkok Translation and Interpretation Service. Thank you!

Bowling in Chiang Mai

As far as I know, the last bowling alley in Chiang Mai closed down when Kad Suan Kaew closed. Does anyone know of another one or plans for another one to be opened in the future? I find it hard to believe that a bowling alley wouldn’t be profitable in the second biggest city of Thailand.

Ideas on how I can order grocery delivery for my elderly father in chiangmai?

The title says it all.

I just found out that my father, who's confused and elderly, has gone without food for 5 days.

I tried to order on Tops, but for some reason it won't take my card. I made sure international purchases were allowed. So, I want to try a different way...

Curious if any of you have any recommendations or ideas on how to get him food?

Edit: I'm in the states

Edit 2: Update- the Grab guy was able to find the location and I was blown away when a delivery picture came through of my old, shirtless, skinny dad holding the delivery! Wow, what a world we live in. Thanks to this sub for helping me get this done ✔️ 🙌

Is it 14 days or 30 when doing border runs? it used to be 14 back in the day.

Hello guys

I never used reddit before, so sorry in advance if this is not the right forum.

I came to Thailand 1st of March and extended my visa this month. I decided i wanted to stay here for a year and obtain a ED Visa. However I was at the school today, and they told me my VISA had to short duration for them to process the documents.

I checked my options, there is a company here in Chiang mai offering day trips to the Laotian border. My question is how many days do i get upon reentry? Is it 14 days or 30 days?

https://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand-visa/thailand-visa-latest-update

I read this post and it says 30 days 2 times per calendar year, but further down it says

The restriction has already been abolished so tourists can now visit Thailand as often as they want, provided that they obtain 30 day Visa on Arrival at airports and 15 day Visa on Arrival if they are traveling via land borders.

So which one is it? Anyone who knows or have done it? I have a Danish passport. I also read some other post saying you only get 14 days on entry and can only extend it for 7 days at immigration office not 30 days like the one i got from coming from Denmark.

i need 40 days more, and then i will leave for Hanoi to process the ED visa. Can I get these 40 days more or do i need to fly out of the country and back in?

Hope someone can help. Many thanks!

Is the Facebook group “Chiang Mai Rental Properties *UNDER* 10,000 Per Month” Trustworthy?

Hello ☺️, I’ll be staying in Chiang Mai for 5 months from October & was advised to look to this Facebook group for a flat to rent. I’ve been to Chiang Mai once but as it was a short stay I am still not very aware of the cost for an apartment paying monthly, and the listing I see in the group look very good for the price… too good maybe ? Did anyone ever rented a place from this FB group ?

PS : I’m pretty easy going, I don’t need anything fancy but would love a good mattress, shower with hot water, Climatisation, some light (large windows) and could pay a little more for a little balcony/terrasse or swimming pool (common one is fine) - not too far from city life as I can’t ride a motorcycle. So If you have any related advise I’ll take them ☺️✨

Renewing Thai drivers license on a tourist visa

Is it possible? Most websites say no but again they also say you can’t get a drivers license on a tourist visa but I have both a bike and car one (currently the 2 year temporary) and had 0 trouble getting one. Anyone found a way to get the 5 years license on a tourist visa? Or any other options?

Searching eastern medicine expert

Hello,

My partner has been dealing with a lot of stomach issues for the past 2-3 years. He’s tried everything related to western medicine (lots of blood tests, allergy tests, etc) but never got a conclusive answer to his issue. We’re traveling to Chiangmai and I was wondering if there are any eastern medicine experts in Chiangmai that might be able to help him (organ massage, medical intuitive, acupuncture, etc). Any advice/suggestion/recommendation would be much appreciated!

Any scenic routes? (motorcycle)

Hi there I want to rent a big bike and drive basically anywhere nice, dirt roads and trails are okay, but nothing hardcore. I'd be happy enough with a forest and even happier if there's a stream or a nice view. Ideally <1 hour drive from the city. Thank you!
