Phuket/Krabi/Surrounding Areas
If you're here, you're likely planning a visit, looking for information about visiting, have already visited or live in Thailand. That's what this is here for.
This sub is for all things tourist and Thailand, including: Questions about coming to Thailand (trip itineraries, tickets, visas etc.,); Things to do in Thailand (activities, transport, hotels, events); and Trip reviews and personal accounts of your time touring this great country.
Please note that while the subscribers here are happy to try to help you, please read the following, it makes it easier for us, and easier for you in getting prompt and helpful replies.
Please do yourself a favour by trying to do a little research on your own. The best answers you will get from a resource like this, will come from questions that are more specific than not. There are literally thousands of things to do in Thailand, so, simply asking something like "what should I do," won't help you get a good answer, and won't help us formulate one... be as specific as you can.

Hello,
I have been around in Thailand for 3 weeks now (Phuket, Krabi), but I am in the SEA for a longer time so I slow travel to save on... well, everything. I stayed 4 days in Kata but then I moved to Phuket Town (as it is cheaper), and travelled to towns around.
Now I am in Krabi Town (staying in Hope Inn) which is nothing extra fancy (the hotel is actually very good value for money), but the hotel and town is way more affordable compare to Ao Nang, if I want more action I just take songthaew for 60 baht and I am there basically in no time.
Since I stayed in Krabi for 2 weeks (plus one to go), I think it's time to move. I would prefer something like Krabi, not expensive, but somewhere where busier towns and nice beaches are reasonably reachable by songthaew or by a bus, etc...
So I welcome any tips...
thanks.
Are Thai (especially Isaan) parents considered 'bad' parents by their adult children if they ask for money help such as paying 'rent' for the room if they are still living with their parents even though they're adults?
I think adult kids should pay certain amount of money for rent/board or just can call it 'help' to pay for some bills such as electricity, pay for some food too, that's so basic and normal to me.
My Isaan GF brother is 30 years old but still living with his mom but doesn't pay her any money to stay in her house, doesn't help to buy any food, nothing but he is first to eat everything he can find in the house and says that his mom shouldn't ask him for any money.
He works full time but spends his money on his car, gambling, partying and drinking alcohol so if he would really want then he would be able to help his mom financially.
Sometimes he does some maintenance work on the house or drive family members somewhere like a taxi driver but that's all.
Better end of March or end of April, and why? I read online about the agricultural fires? When do they take place? Is it really a blocking point to visit Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai? End of April would be easier for me… so I am seeing if March is really way more worth it
Thanks a lot!!
Going to BKK for business and will only have 1 free day on schedule. It's also my first time. Since schedule is tight, just wanted to focus on food, coffee and shopping (Will save the sight seeing when i go as a tourist).
I've checked out some vlogs an narrowed down on where i want to go given the limited time: Chatukchak weekend market and Emporium Mall
Please suggest an itinerary that would center around those two locations. If its difficult to fit both locations in one day, I'd like to visit the weekend market more. Looking specifically for places to eat and cafes to visit around those two areas. Thanks!
Me (25M) and my fiance (23F) had planned hell lot of things to do in Phuket (James Bond/Phi-Phi/Beach hopping/party at Bangla road and so on)
But we've been really sick (down with some flu idk) plus we had continuous fights day after day, maybe because of the stress built up.
I just have this day left here before checking out tomorrow, we spent most of the 5 days we had here inside a hotel room. I have legit shut off my curtains so that no sunlight comes in and I don't get to miss anything outside or feel jealous of others enjoying this amazing city.
Sorry to show my crying side here or posting anything unrelated to tourism in Thailand but I've started to hate Phuket... Maybe it's all just temporary and when I come back here again, totally fit, I'll get to do everything that I wanted to do here. But for now, all money is wasted, all plans washed off - just sadness and dismay.
Leaving Phuket, and Thailand tomorrow - it's really sad and disappointing to end a trip like this. I wish someone could relate to this and give some validation...but I'll never wish sadness upon anyone.
Please enjoy, whoever can :)
In tanote bay, I believe?
I was there about two years ago; there's a big rock a short ways into the ocean, where you can cliff jump. I remember there was a rope you could pull yourself up with to get to the jumping spot.
That rope was frayed to shit when I was there. I remember thinking someone was gonna die when that thing broke. Did that rope ever get replaced?
Heard it’s closed since last year for non thais. Any one recently tried ?
Does anyone know if Hat Yai airport is accessible at the moment and if vans and ferries to Koh Lipe run as usual?
I've been traveling Thailand for the last month, I see red whisker bulbuls caged every so often. Google tells me there's songbird competitions every so often. I just finished my month in the south of Thailand, heading to Bangkok tomorrow to begin my trip of the north. I can do a bunch of different bird call whistles and don't often meet other people who can do the same. Anyone have any idea where I could find one of these competitions?
Hello, I was wondering is it possible to get kratom powder and drinks out of Thailand by plane. In my destination it's legal but I'm curious if it's a problem tonfly with it from the BKK airport.
Hi! I’m planning on obtaining educational visa in Thailand and I want to settle in Koh Samui, does anybody know schools that are approved by immigration centers there? I really wanna study yoga, Thai massage or culinary
I am flying from Cambodia to India connecting at DMK on airasia. What is the process like? Will i need to go through imm. and customs and how long would that take? Thanks for any info.
I'm unable to book sleeper train tickets for jan 4 2025 on dticket.railway.co.th and 12go.com. Are these already sold out or just not on sale yet? (I read something about only 30 days in advance) Trying to figure this out... Any help would be appreciated :)
Hello 👋 I am a solo indian traveller travelling in the month of December and returning back afternoon year If people could help out what best to do and most important what not to do. .. What are the top two locations to stay in Thailand that allow easy travel to nearby smaller towns within an hour? 3 people, 25 years old
Does anyone have recent experience on taking bikes on overnight buses? There are two of us and we'd like to travel from Bangkok to the south with our bicycles. Just trying to figure out the easiest way to do that.
I am planning a trip over new years and can’t pick where to stay in Thailand. Weather in the gulf/samui area seems more likely to rain and is super expensive. Krabi could be good and supposedly bit better weather. Not sure if there is something else amazing that I haven’t heard of yet. Keen on good food, nature exploring like snorkelling or hiking and something fun for nye with fireworks. Would it be a bad move to go to Palawan in the Phillipines instead? We in Vietnam beforehand so have some flexibility on where to go. Thanks in advance
Nok airlines is flaky. They emailed saying the flight to Surat Thani from BKK is canceled. This is for 21 Dec. I’ve requested a reschedule for another flight on the same day. I’m hearing cancellation refunds take forever and all other airlines flying the same day- air Asia, Thai viet jet etc are also equally unreliable. Would really appreciate the best way to go about this per everyone’s experiences with travelling within Thailand. I really do want to visit the islands around koh samui. Also- the ticket price for any Thai airline excludes check in luggage??? What???? Just feeling scammed af.
Is there anywhere to buy Nike tennis shoes other than the night market? I am US size 12 and the night markets never have my size. Any stores I can go to or somewhere that might have a larger size selection?
hi all - visiting BKK this year around NYE and would love any recommendations that are in these neighborhoods
i'm coming with my partner, we enjoy partying but more in a dance-y bar (less club) kind of way and especially love sitting outside having a few beers - any thoughts that might be more of a dive bar / interesting music than a club type of party around this area? do you think that most bars will be open late b/c of NYE and we could maybe play it by ear?
thanks in advance!
Visiting from mid January to mid March and thinking doing chiang mai in January then a month in pattaya and last two weeks in Bangkok. Any thoughts on if I should go anywhere else. Don’t want to bounce around too much so I can get better deal on Airbnbs. Also any tips for Airbnb since I never used it before.
Also I’m in my 30s don’t drink or party much if that helps with recommendations.
Thanks in advance.

Hi all,
27M, planning a first time solo trip to Thailand for end of January and thinking of these locations:
Bangkok (2 nights) Pattaya (3 nights) Koh tak (4 nights) Khao Sok (3 nights) Koh Samui (3 nights) Phi Phi (2 nights)
Let me know your thoughts or if you think I should change the order.
Also, recommendations for hostel or hotels to stay in.
Thanks!
Maybe I am the only one, but people scrolling TikTok on Speakerphone near the pool pisses me off. I know this is Thailand, and the concept of "quiet" is not something known here. But I don't get people beeing unconsiderate to others when it would be preventable. Even 7/11 sells headphones.
I know there are some "swinger" hotels that forbid phones for privacy reasons. I might go that way in the future. Any recommandations for any other adult / silent places to enjoy? Is this even a thing?
Already planning to come back this time next year.
Would like to try Koh Mook and Koh Ngai.
Should I try both islands? Or is Koh Mook enough and is 3 days good enough? Probably will spend 5 to 6 days in the area and might come back to Kradan for 2 days unless you all advise Koh Ngai is just as good
Thank you
Does anyone knows about the existence of such jewel shop in Silom?
