Have a hankering for steak that I don’t have to cook myself lol.
I’m heading to Zootoberfest tomorrow and we have mugs from the past two years. Anyone know if they will fill them vs having to buy new ones?
My family lived in East St. Louis at this time as Slavic/Roma “gypsy” immigrants. My great grandfather was working in the coal mines at 8 years old around the time the massacre happened. I’m assuming that’s what his father likely did as well. If coal mining was a big employer of the area at the time, does anyone know which mines? Im curious if it was dogtown mines or mines in Illinois. I know they went to church in the city of St. Louis. I also know they likely would have been forced to live in east St. Louis because gypsies with their darker skin tone weren’t welcomed.
On Hampton there used to be a Sicilian restaurant. I'm pretty sure the name was GianCarlos. Across from Slyman Brothers? Not sure what it is now.
Anywaysssss. They used to have a salad to die for and I have searched high and low to find another one like it. On top of their food being incredible. The owner said she'd sell her recipes and I wonder if she ever did. Anyone know?
Edit: per spelling. I'm an idiot.
It’s the only thing that doesn’t make my dog sick and I’d like to find something closer to me. Their website has one straubs location and Pete’s but I’ve seen it at all of the Straubs locations so hoping maybe somewhere else has it.
Also, if you have an idea on price range that is extra awesome! TIA!
I have a grandfather clock that clockmakers/repair people have told me is from 1760. It’s been in my family for generations and has been repaired and maintained many times as evidenced by notes on the inside. I have been told it now needs someone that can fabricate a couple replacement gears.
Does anyone know of someone capable of this? I’m willing to roadtrip it if required.
Thanks
Anyone have experience with buying tix to Off Broadway on secondary market? SeatGeek, etc. Good or bad is welcome. Thx.
Title says it all. They recently tore down part of the old outlet mall by the main event at the district/the hub and curious if anyone knows what they are putting in?
We did it. Didn’t even need the rent-a-traffic-director. I’m proud of y’all. (Sorry no photo or video evidence)
If anyone is looking for something to do tomorrow O’Fallon, Illinois is having a Witches & Wizards event tomorrow from 5pm - 9pm. Costume contests, vendors, entertainment, etc.

Just had coffee thrown at my truck and brake checked for driving like a sane person. Let me explain…
So I’m heading north on 170 about to get on 270 west. I’m driving a damn near fully loaded semi truck (78,000lbs). I enter the 270 on ramp and slow down to around 40-45 mph because my truck is heavy and I don’t want my load to shift and my truck to roll over, ya know, like a normal person. As soon as I merge on to 270W, this guy in a beat up Ford Taurus comes out from behind me, speeds up ahead of me, puts his hand out the window and gives me the bird, then brake checks me (I was anticipating this so I was already slowing down), and then proceeds to throw a coffee cup at my truck, then speeds off.
So to that person who was forced to endure 30 seconds of 45 mph and threw a fit because of it, while making a truck driver laugh his ass off at you, I hope you have the day you deserve 😌
The number of employees in the St. Louis region grew 2.57% from August 2023 to August 2024, the fourth-highest percentage increase in the nation, according to federal data released Friday.
The St. Louis metro area in the time added 36,600 employees, growing from 1,422,2000 a year ago to 1,458,800 in August, according to federal Bureau of Labor Statistics report.
Only three U.S. metro areas posted larger percentage employment increases: Las Vegas, Salt Lake City and Indianapolis.
The new data marks the first time since 1990 that St. Louis has ranked in the top 10 for employment growth, according to Greater St. Louis Inc., the region's private business advocacy group. It's also an improvement from a mid-year report in July, when St. Louis ranked No. 7.
RELATED: New jobs data called 'best of both worlds' for businesses and workers
This growth mirrors results from June which showed a growing labor force in St. Louis. Between June 2023 and June 2024, St. Louis' labor force, or the number of people employed or looking for work, grew by 40,020 people, totaling 1.5 million in the labor force. About 25,000 of these people were employed.
Experts said that the June labor force growth was due to a few factors, including better salaries, job schedule flexibility and the availability of both part-time and full-time jobs.
“This is the second straight federal data report showing St. Louis as one of the fastest-growing metros in the country for jobs,” Greater St. Louis Inc. CEO Jason Hall said Friday in a statement. “We have much more work to do moving forward, but this continued momentum shows the rest of the country that what we are building here is real and that the way we are working to grow our economy – inclusively, collaboratively, and speaking with a unified voice as one metro – is the right path, the path upon which we must continue.”
Other large metropolitan areas, or the 51 metros with a 2010 census population count of more than 1 million, had mixed results, ranging from 3.69% growth for Las Vegas metro to 1.11 million non-farm employees, to a 0.63% decline for the Milwaukee metro, to 862,600 employees.
The 10 metropolitan areas with the largest growth were:
Las Vegas-Henderson-Paradise, NV: 3.69% (+41,100) Salt Lake City, UT: 2.69% (+22,100) Indianapolis-Carmel-Anderson, IN: 2.60% (+30,500) St. Louis, MO-IL: 2.57% (+36,600) Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach, FL: 2.53% (+73,100) Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land, TX: 2.39% (+80,500) Raleigh, NC: 2.37% (+17,400) San Antonio-New Braunfels, TX: 2.32% (+27,000) Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale, AZ: 2.28% (+54,600) Sacramento--Roseville--Arden-Arcade, CA: 2.09% (+22,500) Some metropolitan areas had declines in non-farm employees from Aug. 2023 to Aug. 2024. Besides Milwaukee, Memphis' non-farm employees fell 0.43%, to 652,000; Denver's fell 0.28%, to 1.6 million; New Orleans fell 0.07%, to 561,800 and Chicago's fell 0.02%, to 4.8 million.
Longer-term growth metrics show that the St. Louis metro ranks in the middle of the pack. Ranked by 5-year growth in non-farm employees, St. Louis is No. 27 of 51 metro areas, with a 3.9% growth. By 10-year growth, St. Louis ranks No. 35, with 9.9% growth.
I went to The Factory for the first time last night. Excellent show and very nice venue. Unfortunately that whole place just oozes greed and exclusivity. I bought VIP tickets, $90 per, and did enjoy the higher vantage point and view of the stage with easy access to the back center bar. But the relentless offers to upgrade your “experience” was a bit of a turn off. Extra fee, around $100, to sit at a table and many signs around to upgrade your “experience” was a bit too much. Drinks were outrageously priced too. Like Busch stadium beer prices. I’m sure I will go back but I just think things like that take away from the over all experience of a fun show with a fun crowd.
Starting here before going to another Legal subreddit. The main question: Can I claim or keep sole ownership of the house, or will I be forced to split the equity if the divorce becomes contested? IT has about $120k+ equity, I estimate. It is entirely in my name, and my loan, she's essentially not on any paperwork tied to the house. She is also an alcoholic, which is why I am filing. No abuse, no fights or anything, just an alcoholic and I'm done.
Details and Info
-I have not filed yet, I will be speaking with a lawyer soon
-We married on July 10, 2020. I sold/closed on my prior house on July 15, 2020. Then we bough/closed on current/marital house on Aug 5, 2020. Since I closed on the sale of my house FIVE DAYS into marriage, are those proceeds partially hers? Does this impact my situation?
-Down payment was "my money" from the sale of my house, she did not contribute anything financially in the purchase of our current home
-She did not participate in the closing process of our current house, so the loan is in my name along with all of the paperwork. She is not on the title or deed, or the loan. And I alone set up the utilities which are all in my name.
-We do not share any banking or credit cards or financial accounts, these are completely separate. So much so, after 4 years I dont even know which bank or CU she uses, nor do I know the balances of her accounts.
-She is my 2nd marriage, and we have no kids together. I am her first marriage, she has no children.
-She hasnt attended a family vacation in 2 years, doesnt go to my kids sporting events or school activities, isn't social with friends, and only vacuums to help around the house but nothing else. Very lazy.
-She works at a hospital in a supervisor role, but sleeps in until 10-12p every day then goes into work for 4-6 hours max. Im surprised she hasnt been fired or written up again.
-We currently make approx the same salary (I make $5k more), but most of the marriage I made $20-30k more
She started her descent into alcoholism and addition in the Fall of 2021. I have records/email that I sent to her in Oct 2021 when I first approached her that she is drinking too much, its affecting me/us, and we need to address it. Long = short: not much changed and she was full-blown alcoholic during Late 2022 and Early 2023, where she was written up from work (lack of attendance, WFH privilege revoked), and was absent from most family activities. In April 2023, I wanted a divorce but when I confronted her I told her to seek rehab and she did. I hoped things could improve, but they did not. She was in rehab for 21 days, and then remained sober for 4-6 months before she began having a drink here and there, small amounts.
For the last 3 months, she has been drinking a bottle of wine each night, sometimes more. Im done. Im getting myself prepared on my end, and I requested an intake meeting with a lawyer to begin the process. I am confident that we will be able to separate amicably with a mediator and be uncontested. But.... who knows, so I'm trying to prepare for the worst: if she fights and wants half the equity or some of my retirement.
Since I have 3 children in middle/high school, and its entirely in my name, I plan to fight the hardest to keep the house. In an attempt to keep things civil, I will offer for her to keep nearly any furniture or items from the house (with a few specific exemptions), we each keep our own finances (no splitting), no maintenance or punitive actions against each other.... I just want to divorce and move on with my life, but not punish. (But if she gets nasty, her alcohol addition will be used against her, bigly)
Based on all of this information, is it likely that I can keep the house and NOT have to split the equity?
Are there any tips or strategies to help ensure that I can keep my house, not have to split any finances, and basically just divide our household items and separate our lives without much fuss or bullshit?
I understand this is reddit and I will be asking all of this of a lawyer, but this is for my sanity and any advice or personal experience is appreciated. If you have a lawyer recommendation, I would be open to that as well. Hopefully we can just use a mediator to resolve this and keep costs low.
Business traveler from Texas traveling to St. Louis for 2 days next week. Besides Gateway Arch, are there any things that you would recommend to a 1st time visitor?
General interests:
Ideally anything centrally located or easily accessible during the weekday.
Thank you in advance to anyone with suggestions!
I’m reaching out to young tech executives who have successfully made the leap from a total compensation package of 250K-300K to 500K or higher. I’m looking for advice and insights into what strategies, roles, or opportunities helped you get there.
For context, I’ve been working in tech for a while and have moved into senior leadership positions, but I’m younger than many of my peers in the executive ranks. This sometimes makes it harder to break through to roles like Group VP, which seem to be key to unlocking higher compensation.
Would love to hear how you navigated this, any challenges you faced, and what steps you took to get to the next level in your career and compensation. Thanks in advance!
Does anyone have an endodontist that’s in Delta Dental’s network that they can recommend? My dentist’s office is closed today, and I’d like to get an appointment set up ASAP.
How's it coming along? Looking forward to checking out the festival, the flood wall and the Arch in one stroll this weekend.
