After 20+ years of neglect, I'll need some serious work done. Anywhere on the south shore will do.

clearly craving a pre-game sandwich!
who has a turkey, cranberry and stuffing sandwich locally?
I moved into a new home two months ago w my daughter. I’m still trying to finish setting up & settling in, but I need help getting the last of it done. I just need a second set of hands to help straighten rugs under furniture & put up curtains, etc. How would I even go about finding someone?
Just noticed a Wasp Nest on a tree behind the housing unit I live. I live in Germantown so do I let the housing authority take care of it or call an exterminator?
Hi all, any gas station or similar place in Quincy I can find free tire pump?
Is this the municipal-run electricity grid that's been on the news last couple of months?
I received a notification in the mail about the program, including the automatic enrollment by Dec 4. It is much cheaper than what we pay now for National Grid, but I don't know much about it beyond so I wanted to ask around.
As the title says - Why is the Quincy Walmart Closed?
Cultural Literacy & Turtle Island with Brad Lopes (Aquinnah Wampanoag)
Wednesday, November 20 from 7 – 8 PM
Community Meeting Room, Main Library, 40 Washington St. Quincy, MA
This November, the Thomas Crane Public Library invites the community to celebrate Native American Heritage Month, a time to honor and recognize the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Indigenous peoples in the United States. National Native American Heritage Month was established in 1990 after years of advocacy and collaboration, bringing awareness to the diversity and significance of Native American heritage.
The Thomas Crane Public Library invites everyone to join us for our featured event, “Cultural Literacy & Turtle Island,” on Wednesday, November 20, from 7 – 8 PM at the Main Library on 40 Washington St. in Quincy, MA. This program will explore the role of cultural literacy in developing respectful and accurate narratives about Indigenous communities. Our guest speaker, Brad Lopes (Aquinnah Wampanoag), will delve into how historical literature and narrative-making practices have impacted and, at times, been shaped by the Indigenous peoples of these lands and waterways. Following the presentation, there will be a Q&A session where attendees can engage further with these important topics.
Later in the month, join us for an online book talk on “Native Nations: A Millennium in North America“ on Monday, November 25, from 7 – 8 PM on Zoom. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link.
Throughout the month, be sure to explore our in-library displays featuring curated books and media related to Native American heritage. Our Online Library is also available 24/7 with digital access to ebooks, audiobooks, movies, music, and language-learning tools that highlight Indigenous voices, languages, history, and stories.
Celebrate, learn, and connect with us this November as we honor Native American Heritage Month at the Library!
The “Cultural Literacy & Turtle Island” program is made possible by the generous sponsorship of the Friends of the Thomas Crane Public Library.
My mom needs some extra help around the house and companionship. I’m wondering if anyone has experience with flexible part-time caregiving options in Quincy?
Preferably in the North Quincy area but I don't mind driving a little bit. Also would like a place where I am allowed back with my cat as her last vet wouldn't allow that.
Anybody want to make signs that say this and go protest peacefully somewhere in Quincy sometime soon. Just feel like I need to do something about this election and this is the first thing that came to mind. I’ll update more if any interest
EDIT: Didn’t realize this would bring out some crazies who haven’t been active in this sub before. Either way, I’ll be out on Sea Street this weekend with this message
Only in the evening, the past couple nights. I live by the shipyard. Anyone else?
Where is it coming from?
I'm looking at Lady Bug and Clancy Bros, was hoping to get some feedback about them and recs for any other providers who can accommodate same day service. PS: I did see a post about this from last month but couldn't get a lot of info from it, so had to put up a new post. Apologies for the repetition!
I tried to go to the one in the back of Quincy high but no luck, all dark.
My son has to make a tri-fold brochure about a Quincy historical site for his elementary school as part of a contest. I was wondering if any redditors had any ideas about how to Improve it? Thanks in advance!!
“The Only Winner in War Is Medicine” with Author, Dr. Andrew Lam
Saturday, November 16 from 2:30 – 3:30 PM
Community Meeting Room, Main Library, 40 Washington St. Quincy, MA
Happy early Veterans Day! While all the Quincy Libraries will be closed this Monday in honor of Veterans Day, join us this upcoming Saturday, November 16 from 2:30 - 3:30 PM at the Main Library to learn all about war history and the evolution of medicine/medical innovations from Dr. Andrew Lam.
The history of medicine is replete with advances made by hard-working maverick doctors who, through intelligence, serendipity, and perseverance, made astonishing progress against humankind’s deadliest diseases.
Yet surgeon and author Andrew Lam says one factor spurred more medical breakthroughs than any other: war. He reveals how D-Day, Luftwaffe bombing raids, top-secret Liberty ship cargo, and aerial dogfights during World War II bequeathed to humanity innovations in surgery, cancer treatment, and trauma care that still serve us today.
An in-depth look at the mavericks, moments, and mistakes that sparked the greatest medical discoveries in modern times—plus the cures that will help us live longer and healthier lives in this century . . . and beyond
In The Masters of Medicine, Dr. Andrew Lam, distills the long arc of medical progress down to the crucial moments that were responsible for the world’s greatest medical miracles. He brings to life heroic tales of embattled mavericks who endured ridicule and sometimes risked their own lives to conceive the incredible, life-saving cures we depend on, and often take for granted, today.
The Masters of Medicine is a fascinating chronicle of human courage, audacity, error, and luck. This riveting ode to mankind expertly highlights the battle against deaths from heart attacks, diabetes, infection, cancer, trauma, and childbirth, revealing why the past is prelude to the game-changing breakthroughs of tomorrow.
Andrew Lam, M.D., is a retina surgeon and the award-winning author of three prior books: Saving Sight, an Amazon best seller about his surgical career, and two novels of WWII: Two Sons of China and Repentance. Before attending medical school he earned a history degree from Yale University. His writing has appeared in numerous publications, including the New York Times, Washington Post and USA Today. He is currently an assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School
Hi, I’ve finally requested a harassment protection order against my 75 year old neighbor who has been harassing me for the past 5 years in Wollaston. Currently it’s ten feet of space and she cannot contact me. On November 20 we have a hearing to either extend or expire the order.
She watches me constantly through her front door (im aware this is not illegal), she flashes her porch light so people get disoriented while trying to parallel park, she’s called us faggots, bitches, and most recently she called me a fatass when I ignored her. The other day she told my neighbors to go back to China (she’s a white woman). She puts cones out so people can’t walk in the sidewalk in front of her house. If I’m getting a delivery or dropped off, she will IMMEDIATELY come outside and scream at us. I’ve defended myself twice, telling her to leave us alone. She threatened me that she could “get me out of this neighborhood in 5 minutes” and “I am a former state employee, you don’t KNOW what I can do to you.” I have evidence. SO MUCH evidence. Pictures of her watching us, the cones, a video of her flashing lights while my partner was parking. She came INTO our apartment once and left a note and I have that.
I need help. I need legal help, and I need someone who can help me set up an awesome defense against her. I am terrified of this woman because even after calling me a fatass she said “I’ve been nothing but nice to you.” She is an insane gaslighting sociopath, and I need to win this.
I called one attorney and he didn’t want to take it and was kind of a douche. He quoted me $3,000 and I didn’t bat an eye but he really made it seem like he didn’t want to take it on. I’m also not a saint, I’ve definitely yelled some things back at her when she’s been bullying folks/myself. I’ve NEVER initiated anything with her.
Anything helps, I need to stop this bully. I appreciate yall. ALSO I’m aware this is a tall order for reddit, but please be nice. This week has kicked my ass.
Fairly new to Quincy, and didn't see this one asked when using the search bar first. Are there any local businesses in Quincy that offer smoked turkeys for Thanksgiving? Only three of us, so I'm hoping to avoid buying a full turkey, unless no other option is available.
Has anyone tried personal fitness trainers at YMCA? I'm looking at getting a membership for the personal training package.
Any other recommendations for personal trainers around Quincy Center are also appreciated. Thanks!
I (23M) am relocating from Cambridge to Quincy due to its proximity to Cambridge and affordable housing due to me mostly being remote. I am a remote software consultant, a freelance mobile app developer, a part time YouTube tech content producer (that is my motive for renting a bigger apartment as I want space to be able to review my computers and phones), and a startup tech entrepreneur working on my AI startup. I graduated 2 years ago, and in several years, I am planning on pursuing my PhD. Outside of the 2-3x per week, I go outside 1-2 hours per day, mostly for fresh air and some biking.
I went on a private tour at Neponset Landing earlier today and found Neponset Landing to be enticing. Not only does it have a fitness room, a game room, central air, and an in unit laundromat, it also has EV charging (according to the site), which could help facilitate EV ownership in Quincy, given Quincy's lack of commitment to installing EV chargers, unlike Cambridge. This apartment complex is 664 sqft and $2183, which is definitely viable. I could even afford some of the newer builds in Cambridge, even in Kendall Square for $3k, but I wanted to save money. It was also built I'm 2007, of which I believe would have vastly superior insulation than my Cambridge box from 1905. The parking, however, is $100 per month.
I also visited Highlands at Faxon, which supposedly costs around $2125 for 800 sqft, and there is every amenity you can think of:
Proximity to Walmart/HMart/KanMan, 2 mi away from QC MBTA (I could easily bike 2 mi), free resident parking, fitness and game rooms, carpet removal, an in unit laundromat, balcony, kitchen, etc. However, there is no EV charging solution.
I also visited Allister Deco (Quincy Adams), where a 617 sqft studio costs $2049 per month, the newest build in the block, with all the listed amenities, plus access to the MBTA, and EV charging. However, parking is $125 a month without any option in either 3 to park in the street, unlike in Cambridge.
I am curious if there are any current residents of the three apartments to get some insight onto the allergen and mold levels due to me getting sick quite often in my Cambridge Studio.
I’m looking to get some lash extensions for the holiday season and an upcoming vacation. Any recommendations for someone who is talented and good at a less dramatic look?? Thank you :)
Like... midnight-1am?
Here is a list of things happening around Quincy this weekend. Please feel free to add anything I may have missed!
Hi! Does anyone know if there are any open studios where we can learn or practice on the wheel in the South Shore?
Anybody nearby sell fancy potted meats? Bonus points if they also have a nice cheese selection!
Hi I'm new to the area and salt water fishing, are there any decent spots in the area this late in the season? Thanks
Please share your recommendations thanks!
I have tried to support my local fish store but this place has been “moving or renovating” since the beginning of July.
The owner seems nice but at this point I’m not sure how it couldn’t be a front for something.
Am I being weird? (My wife thinks I am)
