Fireball

Did anyone else see a large fireball come down about 5:20 this morning? I was walking up Mt Pleasant Ave heading towards the golf course and saw a large fireball up in front of me with something black rotating in the front of it. It was coming down at just a slight angle and probably landed just off shore. I’ve seen a lot of shooting stars but this was something else as the fireball was pretty big.

Who is the most famous person who went to GHS?

I’m pretty sure the answer is Vermin Supreme.

I'm looking for a place to go camping near the quarries?? Anybody have info

So I grew up in the area and in the 90s I used to go up to the quarries and sometimes you would jump off and go swimming... It was a lot of fun and freedom

I've heard since then they did something with the parking where you can't park near the quarries or something and not sure if you can even get in there

But here's my real question

I'm planning a little camping trip with some local friends while I'm in town and we always go camping out and basically just drink all night have a fire, enjoy the night and nature and then in the morning pick up everything and leave. Not looking for any campgrounds or any of that... Looking to see if it's just possible to have a little fire someplace and where the best place is where we're not going to get bothered by anyone as we're not bothering anyone.

Maybe best if someone direct messages me if you have a place that you think it would be okay and a place where we could park

Weird Guy at Long Wharf

Girlfriend and I decided to have an evening paddle on the Anisquam. We arrived about 5:30 PM yesterday (Sunday, 8/25/2024). I take my Kayak off my car and walk it to the gravel launch. I turn around and see an older man changing in front of partner as she was unloading her boat. When we had our boats on the gravel ramp he came over and said he needed to lower his trailer in. There was no boat on the trailer and no boats in the harbour. Also there is a perfectly good cement ramp to the right of the gravel one. He asked us if we needed help launching and we declined. I launched while my partner was still getting her paddle together and electronics placed in a water bag. He then pushed her off the ramp saying they needed the ramp. (Again, there was a second ramp). He was also making comments about the dogs who were playing “They just want to mate”. He said this to another woman who had brought her dog to kayak with.

Anyone else deal with this guy? It was just overall an uncomfortable experience. There were kids running around and this experience made us not want to paddle, but as we were already out we decided to stay out until we were confident he had left.

Labor Day Weekend Trip

Hi everyone!

I’m from Amherst, MA, and was thinking of planning a trip to Gloucester for next weekend. Is it too late to start planning now? Would it be crazy crowded at that time?

Also, please feel free to recommend places! I have heard a lot about the Good Harbour Beach, Hammond Castle and Whale Watching Tour. Please drop any restaurant recommendations as well!

Thanks in advance! :)

Wingaesheek beach parking sold out - alternatives?

The beach lot is sold out for this weekend. I’ve never been before, are there alternative parking options or any private lots nearby?

Best wings in town?

Looking to get wings for the UFC later but I've realized that in the 2 years I have lived here, I have never gotten any wings from anywhere. Happy to go to Rockport too if you think the best wings are there. So let me have it, where are your favorite wings on the island?

Wingaersheek Beach.

Returning my wife to her favorite beach after 30 years. Ready to throw cash at restaurants and hotel for the local economy but not disposable beach items. Any where to buy a beach umbrella and low chairs for cheap? Two days so not concerned about quality.

Wingaersheek Beach Parking advice…

How early should I get to Wingaersheek Beach to park in the front lot on a Monday? Last time (on a weekend) we had to walk so far I briefly considered throwing all my stuff in the dumpster on the way back lol. Any advice on parking or how to make hauling your stuff easier is much appreciated.

Good harbor beach chair

The other day when I was at good Harbor, I left my zero gravity, green chair accidentally at the bridge. I was supposed to pick it up and got distracted and I'm wondering since it's not there anymore who I could contact. I'm guessing there's a cleanup crew, and I'm wondering if maybe, anyone in this group could help me out?

I heard King's Roast Beef (corner chestnut/main) used to run a big bookmaking operation back in the day. Any stories out there, prove or disprove?

The back of the building, behind the diner, used to have all sorts of antenna on the top, I remember. They came down about 20 years ago. I heard rumors it was a booking operation until action moved to the internet. The timeline for the antenna coming down is right; anyone know anything about that? Just curious.

Too restrictive

Going to the beach in Gloucester has become way too restrictive. Beaches are public property. Good harbor is $30 a day, and fills up fast, I used to go to Niles and park on the street but now both sides are resident only. Going to the beach used to be a free, fun way to spend the day. I will have to find another town, I suppose that is what they want though.

Beach Parking Question

Just was wondering if anyone knew: If I am a non-resident that is arriving at the beach at 5:30PM - do I need to pay for parking at Good Harbor Beach or Wingaersheek Beach?
