Local Artist Markets

Last week I was in New Orleans for work and stumbled on the outdoor art market on Frenchmen St. It was so enjoyable, and I even came back with a few prints. Now I'm inspired to buy more artwork, wondering if we have anything similar in PHX?

Designated RC crawling places?

Any RC crawlers in this sub? Where do you go that isn’t your house to do RC trail or crawling?

With the brutal summer keeping me indoors and not out trail running and mountain biking like normal, I picked up the hobby of RC crawling and even though my rig is still pretty ’scale’. I have a TRX4M knockoff 1/18 Jeep with brass wheels and a few steel parts, and I’ve been crawling around on bricks and wood in my backyard and house.

I’m bored and wanna take my rig new places. What’s fun in the west valley, Arrowhead area?

Self defense class for queer folks?

Does anyone know of any local queer friendly places to take a self defense class? Or even a recommendation on a self defense class for women would be appreciated. I’d prefer east valley but will drive further. Thanks in advance!

Edit: For those of you suggesting I get armed, I’m covered. That’s not what I asked for.

Sunday options like Carolina’s?

We have a tradition that we get Carolina’s before we head to the airport to return to Canada. This is such a nostalgic tradition that we avoid flying on Sundays when possible. Sadly, it was unavoidable and we fly tomorrow. Any suggestions for alternatives open on Sundays? We are off of cactus nearish to the 51. Edit: great suggestions all, thank you. I’ve added them to my saved map for our next trip down.

I get the feeling it’s going to be a colder winter than it has been the last few years.

The temps have been around 43 every morning this past week. And when it’s something like over a 100 degrees everyday for five minutes months straight, 43 feels frigid. I’ve only lived here for nine years so I’m no Arizona weather expert. I’m just saying…

Does anyone know the rules as to pergolas/shad structures in backyard?

How far from fence and/or property line do they need to be? I’ve heard five feet, but is that from the property line or the fence?

Vet recommendations for dog glaucoma?

My dog has glaucoma and her vet told us she may need eye enucleation. She is 15 years old and in good health thankfully, but I’m still very nervous to have her undergo surgery at her age. Does anyone have any vet recommendations? I’m in the east valley but willing to drive further out.

Moved into new rental and it has mold - what now?

Hey everyone - I am new to AZ (moved from Canada for work) so not entirely sure what the tenant laws are here. Since the first day we moved in, I have been sick. First it was 8 days of body aches and no energy - then it was consistent sinus issues and sore throats - then serious eye pain with almost the entire eye going red. TIngling in my fingers and feet etc. We have an RV and we have left the house on 3 separate weekends and within 12 hours of leaving I feel 100%. When I come back - the next day the symptoms come back.

My wife is also getting congestion after 2-3 days here - when we leave she has none.

My 1.5y son keeps getting eye irritation (the inside white part goes red) and it goes away each time we have left - then comes back when we get here.

We bought one of those DIY mold test kits from Amazon to see if anything came up - and after leaving the collection plate out for an hour - we got this (attached).

I already know that I am very sensitive to mold as I grew up in a moldy environment so its not a surprise for me - but its disturbing to see my wife and son getting all of these issues.

Does anyone have experience with this sort of thing? What is the process for getting out of the lease? We signed a 12 month lease with a full month deposit - but we just can't be sick non stop. Are the tenant laws here in AZ friendly for this sort of thing? Or will it be a super pain/impossible to get out of the lease?

Thanks!

Where to get pulque in Phoenix?

I recently learned about this drink and was wondering if there's any place to try it in the valley.

I've always been a huge agave fan! I saw there are some canned varieties available online, but I didn't know if those were fair to judge it by.

Maricopa County Real Property Tax Class Action Lawsuit Refund

I have received five refund checks for 2016-2021. I asked my neighbors if they received any, and six of them said that they have not. We are trying to figure out why I received five checks. The other puzzling thing is that my assessed amount went down -9.9%, while theirs went up +9.9%.

I'm not complaining by any means, just curious as to why?

Facts: Three of the six neighbors purchased their houses within months of me (2017). They have the same(ish) square footage, bedrooms and baths. All were built within months of each other (2000). Mine was a vacation home, used maybe twice a year (is this it?) by snow birds, where theirs were owner occupied year round.

This all started when I received my real property tax bill in the mail, and on the bottom in red letters, states: "Your tax rate includes an increase to cover the cost of property tax refunds ordered in a class action litigation." So I asked them if essentially, we are paying more because of it? Turns out I'm not, but they are!

Anyone else get a refund?

Historical question about an ordinary old building.

Hello, I'm still fairly new to Phoenix and one of my past times is to learn the history of my immediate area. The name of my building has changed, it used to be called the Apple Apts. I've only found a few old newspaper ads for it from the early 70s. And my neighbors are hard to happen across on my days off, plus I work alot.

If anybody knows of anyone who has an old photo of the place I'd love to know!

First one I’ve seen in person. Wowza.

There are less than 300 of these Bugatti Veyron ever made. Based on the sticker on the rear right panel is going to auction at Barrett Jackson. You can sure see some amazing machines around.
