Immersive Media and Games Major - What kind of laptop should I get??

I will be majoring in Immersive Media and Games in the fall. I don't have much experience with computer programming, but I think the major will require programs for art and coding at least. Based on that, does anybody already in this major have any recommendations?

Thank you!

General Scholarship Application

When will students start receiving notice regarding scholarships offered through NAU?

My daughter still needs about $12k in financial aide to cover everything. We are continuously checking her NAU email and scholarship universe but there has been no updates other than the status showing “Reviewing.” The general application was supposed to automatically apply to 30 different scholarships. Did she not get a single one?!? I am starting to worry that she won’t be able to attend either no additional scholarships. And very little notice to change her plans.

How long do scholarships take to show up on LOUIE?

I received about 3K from scholarship universe and submitted my thank you note before the deadline. The deadline being June 15th, with that being said nothing has shown up in my LOUIE account regarding those scholarships. Does it take a certain amount of time or something? Hope you guys can help!

Classics

I heard this department/area got crushed from a previous president. But will it be rebuilt? Because it is a nice area to study. I would have liked to learn the Latin and Greek language. And apparently a lot of people get this major to go into law school and such. I was interested more in the classics and archaeology.

Applying for housing

Hello, I just realized I'm a little late for choosing a room/housing. I was wondering if I can still acquire housing, since I need it for my first year. Any advice? Thank you

Costs for the whole year

So I’m getting about 20 k for grants and scholarships for the whole year and also doing a biomedical degree… it just showed my charges and it’s looking like the costs are gonna go over that. When I added everything up before they showed the charges it actually added up to around like $13,000. I’m just curious if anyone else can share what their yearly total cost was (I did the cheapest meal plan too).

Alumni app fee waiver

Does anyone have the most current application fee waiver code? I’ve tried the different ones that people have shared here in the past and they’re not working :( would super appreciate it if anyone has the most up-to-date one!

I’m thinking of online school

I’m starting my sophomore year and I will be living off campus contrary to my freshman year i lived at sechrist. I’m stressed about money and i also am into traveling and tbh i miss my man like it’s crazy. So I’ve been debating online for spring 2024 in order to save money by living off campus and making taking less credits. I also want to go home often. To anyone who has done online school how was it like? I’m mainly worried about missing out on connections with professors as well as not holding myself accountable. Also has anyone done online at nau while living out of town?

Elementary Education

I’m majoring in Elementary Education in the fall as a freshman, and I was just wondering what the classes are like? The main ones I’m looking at are Intro to Education and Principles of Mathematics. What is the homework like? Is it based on essays, classes, reading, etc.? Are the due dates strict? How many people are usually in these classes? What are the professors like?

I’m just looking for any info about these classes! I’m super nervous for college and I’m just trying to be as prepared as possible.

The Jack

So I was looking into getting an apartment and I saw the Jack has availability for a studio 1 bathroom. I wanted to see if it’s better to stay at the Morton Hall or just move into the studio? Also if anyone has stayed in the studio before, how is it and how much is rent usually and are bills (water, heat, and electricity) included?

Is the NAU Bookstore dog friendly?

I graduated from NAU years ago. My husband & I want to walk around campus with our dogs when we visit FLG. Does anyone know if the bookstore allows well-behaved/leashed dogs? Trying to plan our last minute trip. I can’t call and ask because they closed at 4 today. Thank you so much in advance.😊

Babysitting Opportunities

Hi, i’m going to NAU in August and was wondering if it’s somewhat easy to get a babysitting job? I’ve been babysitting for a few years and was hoping to continue in college. Is it very competitive to get into/should I start putting out posts now?

Transcript Processing?

Okay, I'm too embarrassed to Admissions because I'm a bit dim, it seems lately.

I realized way too late that I still needed to submit my official transcripts, and I've got them taken care of now. I finally got them mailing/processing through Parchment. My question is, if my transcript is delivered but not processed yet, would I still be able to attend? Or am I screwed because I didn't read the "transcripts" correctly?

How’s the music scene

I’m planning on transferring, and wanted to know what the music scene is for basement shows / house shows around here? Midwest emo, punk etc. Any bands around that play, I’m from mass so I’m use to seeing bands like catalyst, vs self etc

SAP requirements not met by accident, will my Fafsa be approved?

I enrolled then withdrew last year before ever attending classes because I went to the hospital, but my NAU Louie to do list says I do not meet SAP GPA requirements and therefore do not qualify for aid. I didn’t ever go to school so I don’t know how I don’t meet the requirements, but I already submitted an appeal and am planning on calling the school tomorrow. Anyways, will this make it so that my fafsa won’t be approved? It says under review and has for four days, I’m worried because the deadline is so soon.

Dorm Essentials?

Hey! I’m moving to McConnell Hall this upcoming semester. This is probably a dumb question, but I want to ask just in case. I know the basics of what to get for my dorm, like what you read online and stuff. But I was wondering if there is anything specific to NAU, or at least McConnell that’s a good idea to get as well. Thanks!!

The suits NAU

I’m an incoming freshman for fall 2024 and I got waitlisted for the triple one bedroom one bath at the suits from what I’m hearing freshman get priority housing but I’m still worried. I’m in an urgent situation and have to look for new housing. Do you guys recommend looking for other housing or should I not be worried since freshmen get priority housing?
