I ran into a post on YouTube by a guy named Dillon Weldon, he was talking about dark country songs. Like Johnny paycheck singing "pardon me I have someone to Kill" what other good songs could be considered dark country. I know Hank Williams Jr's cold cold ground, I know Johnny Cash has that album murder that has a lot of them on there do you know any good ones.
What I noticed was some negative statements and attitudes that some of the people interviewed had towards Johnny Cash. Given that the documentary is a recognized Outlaw Country staple and I’ve always considered Johnny Cash on the Mount Rushmore of Outlaw Country, I found that really surprising. Does anyone have any more insight on why some people in that scene back then viewed Cash that way?
Can someone explain what the hype has been about Sturgill Simpson? So far, I haven’t see it. I’ve been a big fan of our kind of country music for a long time, and he does have a songs that I like. I have seen him live. He’s a good guitar player, but again I didn’t think he was as great as most people say he is. Feel free to comment your favorite Sturgill songs and I will check them out, surely there’s something I’m missing.
Not trying to be a hater, I know he has a lot of passionate fans. I like what he stands for, so I would love for my mind to be changed!
The podcast. Anybody know why they haven’t done anything since Feb ? It was a good podcast for a while. The new season got kinda lame , but I skipped through the talking to get to the songs anyway.
Hi people, I’m new here. I’ve been a fan of outlaw country for a few years now, especially Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, David Allen Coe, and Jonny Cash. I am a big fan of Townes Van Zandt and Blaze Foley too, not sure if you consider them outlaw country. I was just hoping for more listening recommendations? Thank you kindly.
Now Don’t Y’all Think This Outlaw Bit makes way more sense too.
Looking for any outlaw country songs that are gospel or even ones that sound gospel
Like Sunday morning coming down, angel flying to close to the ground, I see a darkness, now i lay me down to cheat, greystone chapel etc. Thanks in advance.
Hi, I don’t know if this is allowed, but I’m looking for fellow outlaw country fans for a photography project I’m working on. If I can take your photo, I can offer you some badass Waylon Jennings, George Jones, or Townes Van Zandt gear in return (all fully licensed and with respect to their estates.)
Music for those who still believe in "The Land of the Free" Country with an Edge!

Heard this song on the radio today and it piqued my interest. Curious if any industry insiders have any insight on how Cody Jinks “changed the game” per the lyrics of his latest release.
I like him fine and he’s had a solid career but from the outside looking in it seems like he’s kind of your run of the mill decently successful indie outlaw country artist.
Has he done anything particularly groundbreaking behind the scenes in terms of labels, revenue, recording, etc that would credit him as “changing the game”? Or is it just a song and I’m thinking about it too much?
Well...it had to happen eventually.
Bob Wayne is the real deal.
So my question is would Keith Whitley be considered under the outlaw country banner? Or was he more of a country pop kinda musician?
