Where can I bring old/used University & College textbooks?

I'm looking for a place where I could donate/sell old University & College textbooks? I bought all the textbooks originally between 2015-2020.

I'm pretty sure they're all too old to be brought back to their original bookstores (at Algonquin and Carleton), but if I'm wrong, please let me know.

360 Bell Street South - questions for current/former tenets

I am going to be moving into Dow's lake tower at 360 Bell Street South in April. The unit was nice from what I saw in the tour and so far management has been very friendly and helpful. I have a few questions for anyone who currently lives there or has lived there before.

  1. Has you ever had any issues with roaches/bedbugs

  2. What is the noise level like (road noise/ neighbors)

  3. What stores would you recommend for groceries in the area and what restaurants would you recommend

  4. Any recommendations for Internet service providers

  5. What was your electric bill like

  6. Would you recommend buying a window A/C

Sheer Disorganization in Provincial Liberal Party

WTF is this? I try to find a platform for the Ontario Liberals, no platform on Bonnie Crombie's site, only some long PDF from 2022. I tried to volunteer and my old riding's NDP canvassers got to me while I'm still waiting to hear from the Ontario Liberal Party. I go to my local MPP and they haven't paid for encryption:

https://www.tylerwatt.ca/

And the site's not done

The first two links: https://www.tylerwatt.ca/#:\~:text=Fighting%20for%20Nepean.

Links to squarespace.com because they didn't bother setting it up. This is sheer incompetence and I'm supposed to believe that this guy's going to do better at Queen's park?

Looking for a dishwasher, and well water systems shop

Hey all, other than Canadian Tire, are there any really good appliance stores around that are local who can help with picking out a dishwasher as well as the install. We don't have any kind of hookup so we'd have to do some shenanigans to make it work but it would be awesome.

Also, we are on well and septic. Our water system is very old as we took it over when we bought our house. It's easily 20+ years old. We are looking for a whole new system... something with instructions. The guy we bought it from told us nothing and we are new to all of this. I get what I am doing now but damn, what an adjustment.

Doesn't have to be in Ottawa but ideally Ottawa or areas east of it like Rockland, Limoge, Embrun etc.

Any help would be great!

Women’s rec soccer?

I’m looking for a girls soccer rec league that I can join for fun. I haven’t played in years so I mostly want to do it for fun, to get better and make some friends. Open to subbing or joining informal soccer games that aren’t necessarily a league too. 31 year old girl. Thanks :)

Weekend Activities for Two Couples (1 couple is pregnant)

Hi everyone! Looking for some fun, low-key activities for the weekend of February 14–16. Our friends are coming up to Ottawa for their babymoon & we will be spending time with them while they're here. My friend is in her third trimester so I want to be mindful of her comfort - any suggestions? :)

Thank you jeep plow driver

Shortly after shoveling, and I went inside to warm up, the plow went by and dumped a snowbank across the end of my downtown laneway. There is not much room to shovel snow.

So I bundled up knowing that the snow bank would freeze like cement if I didn't get out there and shovel it away. I needed to get to work tomorrow and wouldn't get over the snowbank.

Just as I started shoveling, a jeep came along slowly and flashed its roof floodlights at me. I stepped away and he took one beautiful scrape with his plow and cleared away what was going to be a miserable job. He drove away as I waved two big thumbs up. He didn't have to do that and could have driven past without a second thought.

So there are good people out there.

Thank you jeep plow driver. You made my day. I send good karma your way and will pay it forward.

At home paint night?

Does anyone know if there is an Ottawa paint night company that would come to your house for a private paint night event in the west end?

I know our hospitals are in a state, but is this normal for L&D too?

I’ve recently been transferred into care with a high risk OB at the Civic to start induction of labour. I was told I needed to do this because of x,y,z risks and basically scared into agreeing to it, and since then I’ve spent what feels like an eternity waiting.

I was supposed to be induced last week, and the date kept being pushed because they had “no room”. I’ve since been brought in three different times for monitoring only to wait 5 hours on average each visit to even get into the exam room. Is this normal in all delivery wards right now?

I’m starting to question if I should try another hospital because they scared me enough to believe I should be induced asap, and are now unable to follow through. Or maybe the risks were overstated if they are comfortable having me wait, and I should push for my original plan of midwife care?

I’m just exhausted and I haven’t even started the hard part yet 😩

ISO mechanic near South Keys

We’ve been going to Active Green and Ross for years but the service and reliability has really gone down hill. Any recommendations for a reliable and HONEST mechanic for basic yearly maintenance on a Subaru and Mazda? Thank you!

How long does it take bylaw to enforce parking restrictions?

I pulled up to my private parking spot behind my rental unit today to find a Mercedes parked in it. I called bylaw and requested a tow truck. There is no guest parking and no street spots available… it’s been a couple hours. I’m a single working parent, so I really need to get this sorted out ASAP.

Has anybody had to call bylaw to enforce parking restrictions on private property before? How long does it usually take? I’m starting to get desperate.

Extra Metcam for Dog

Hello! I was wondering if anyone knows any rescues who would take a bottle of Metacam for dogs. It is opened but I only used a very small amount and no longer need it. It is an expensive medication and a lot of animals use it, so it seems like such a waste to just discard it. It has only been opened for about a week. Alternatively if anyone on here can use it, you are welcome to, however I understand the hesitancy with taking opened products.

The Ottawa Real Estate Market: Week In Review

Good evening, Ottawa!

My name is Nick and I've been an active real estate agent in Ottawa for nearly a decade. I'm experienced in re-sale/pre-construction sales & purchasing, international relocations, leasing, syndications, flipping and everything in between. I am also a past member of the Professional Standards & Ethics Committee for the Ottawa Real Estate Board. This is where I share weekly real estate statistics, local RE news, my thoughts on real estate in Ottawa and most importantly answer your questions/discuss your thoughts on the market. If you have any private questions, please do feel free to contact me directly. My DMs are always open! To see all past data/charts - go to archived weekly updates**.**

IMPORTANT UPDATE: As OREB has now amalgamated with TRREB, there will be some slight variations in the available data over the coming weeks as the wrinkles are ironed out. Most notably, there is no longer (at the moment) any CDOM data. As we look in to this, we may begin tracking listing suspensions, cancelations, terminations and price reductions to help paint a clearer picture of the market.

Your resources

  • Archived weekly updates here.
  • New housing starts here.
  • Ottawa Real Estate Board December market report here.
  • High-rise developments under way here.
  • City of Ottawa construction & infrastructure projects here.
  • Worthwhile local real estate news here.

Below you'll find stats for both freehold, condominium and rental properties over the past several days in Ottawa. I have access to this information through MLS as a real estate broker. The average/median list price is for the sold/rented properties and all of these numbers reflect stats within Ottawa proper and do not cover areas such as Perth, Arnprior, Smith Falls, Brockville etc.

For a full breakdown of the terms I use, please refer to the Start Here tab in the "Archived Weekly Updates" link here.

Question for this week: Are you currently selling your home or buying? How are you finding traffic (if selling) and competition (if buying)?

Freehold

  • Number of active listings: 197
  • Number of conditional sales: 96
  • Number of sold properties: 120
  • Median list price: $699,450
  • Median sold price: $689,000 (98.51% of list price)
  • Median DOM: 18

  • Number of conditional sales: 55
  • Number of sold properties: 48

Local tax preparer/financial planner recommendations?

I moved here from the States last January, so I have a somewhat complicated tax filing coming up this year, plus for what should be obvious reasons I'd like to completely disentangle my finances from the US system, which means figuring out a way to move retirement savings from the US to Canada while minimizing the amount I pay to the US government.

Update from MTO on the 417 lane closure near Parkdale

I have been asking Ontario MTO about what the new plan is for the work that has caused the lane closure on the 417 Eastbound near Parkdale for the past four years. This closure causes accidents every week.

In my call today I was told the sound barrier work was originally expected to be finished by the end of 2024. That has now been extended to the end of 2025 due to:

  • Unknown services found in the ground (e.g. water, sewer lines, cables, etc...)
  • Labour requirements that only one contractor can be working on the site at a time

Also, the lane closure will be moved farther West in the Spring to allow work on the sound barrier closer to the Carling exit.

Repainting of the lines will be done as part of the lane moves.

I asked that the MTO provide updates to the community when plans like this change. I had also inquired with MPP Joel Harden who was also frustrated by not being able to get updates.
