Hi guys.
I've never done Ice Fishing before but I want to try this year. Do you know if at Petrie Island or Constance Lake offers rental service for ice auger drills and/or huts with the hole already done? I'm just looking for a new experience but not having to buy and keep this stuff for now. Also, do you know if they offer any kind of guiding service for new people?
Tbh it is a first-time experience so I'm ok to pay overpriced amounts for this time. If you have any idea of prices I would appreciate if you can share (even if it is a range).
Thanks in advance! :)
Was reading along the fishies in the winter post on the Rideau Canal and how they seem to push them out as they drain it in the fall…. https://www.reddit.com/r/ottawa/comments/17i4uyt/what_happens_to_the_fish_in_the_canal_when_they/
Assuming that some fishies don’t get the memo and stay in the drained waterways, are there any actual restrictions preventing you from ice fishing on the Canal in the area before or after Dows Lake?
Not intending to do it - but more or less trying to satisfy curiosity as the conversation evolved from joking about setting up an ice shack in the Glebe area of the canal!
I’m new to ice fishing and have never been. I’m looking to start. I’m looking for spots to go out around the Ottawa area that aren’t on the Ottawa river. I heard Long Island locks is a good area, looking for more recommendations on locations
I was mistaken on the last one. You don't need to be a member to attend a meeting, only for more official stuff like chapter outings. Hope to see some new faces out. Anyone with any interest in musky fishing is welcome regardless of experience level.
I live near Mooney's bay and Hog's back park and I don't have what I need to go ice fishing (only missing a tent) and so I wanted to ask you guys if you think I'll still catch in the city shores where water isn't frozen around this time of the year. I'm getting ready to go later tonight but I wanted to ask you guys if i should even bother. Thanks and happy fishing!
Going up soon and Says there’s lakers and walleye, what should I expect, how’s the fishing etc.
Hi. I live in Ottawa and have been thinking on getting a new hobby. I would like to start fishing but I have no previous experience and/or knowledge. Where should I start, what is the esencial equipment and where are the best spots in Ottawa to begin and to meet people with the same interests?
Thanks
Hello fellow anglers,
I started a Facebook Group to highlight angling at McLaurin Bay.
If you are an angler who fished or fishes there, please join and spread the word.

are there any spots to fish near the Sandy hill area now that winter is here? I had a few spots near Stanley park but since the cold has set in I haven’t gotten any bites. Maybe I’m fishing with the wrong baits just not sure how to fish in cold weather. Any advice is appreciated.
While fishing for my favorite fish on the Ottawa River I managed to catch unwanted PB in the typical 2 for 1 catch 😉
Sadly the other fish was not PB 😂
Heyoooo,
Looking for warm water discharge spots within 100km. Thanks!
Looking for reputable ice fishing huts to rent for an overnight fishing getaway as a Christmas gift, 1hr radius around Ottawa. Thanks!

3 fish boated, this was the largest caught today.
Hi everyone,
We are looking for people to participate in our online Ottawa River lamprey survey.
The overarching goal of this survey is to understand what attitudes and perceptions Ottawa River anglers possess regarding lampreys in the river.
The survey will be completely online, anonymous, and should take 10-15 minutes to complete.
Participants will be entered into a draw for one of three $50 Cabela’s gift cards should they wish to provide their email address at the end of the survey (responses will not be linked to your email address in any way and will remain anonymous).
The ethics protocol of this project was reviewed by the Carleton University Research Ethics Board, which provided clearance (CUREB-B Clearance #121960) to carry out the research. Still waiting for late fall beast, but the waiting sure gets fun if you hook up to any Muskie!
I went out for a night fish a few weeks ago and had a successful trip, I ended up with 4 and all of them were beef puppets! I've had a few people comment on how and where to find these fish in the fall or just in general, so I'll be making a how to video in the near future. It will be specifically for fishing from shore, and for walleyes.
Hey all,
Was just wondering if it is still worthwhile to bank fish on the Rideau River this time of year?
I have only started fishing in Ottawa this summer and have not had experience with it in the fall/early winter.
I found a few spots earlier in the year that I was having decent luck at but nothing crazy, however I noticed that around the end of September/beginning of October that the bite slowed down significantly.
I have been trying different spots in the river to try and find the fish but have not been having much luck even after checking out some guides on finding fish in rivers at this time of year.
Am I just fishing in the wrong area or have the fish moved down and out of the Rideau River due to the water levels being lowered and it getting cooler?
Am I wasting my time at this point in the year or is there something I should be doing differently?
For reference I am fishing the section of river between Hogs Back falls and Billings.
I am fishing for anything that bites and generally I will use a 4'' curly tail soft plastic or a paddle tail with a 1/8Oz jighead and try and just keep it moving towards the middle/bottom of the water column.
Cheers
Glad I checked the sand flats yesterday. Last time I found them there this time of the year was 2011.
Nice warm and cloudy day yesterday, caught couple but no monsters.
This guy had big hard belly, almost felt like there is a turtle in there :)
I’m going through a hard time with the lady, baby on the way and I’m struggling. I barely see my friends and I can’t go fishing in my usual spots which are in Madawaska or Lanark because I’ve been working so much and don’t have the time. Fishing is one of the last few life luxuries I have and I was wondering where is a good spot in the city. I know hogs back is decent and I’ve caught smallies and walleye there in the past but I was hoping for more places in the city, in exchange I will give you my favourite lakes to fish at if you’re willing to take the drive.
Edit; I have a fishing kayak
Probably best time of the year to get out. Wish it was little warmer and not rainy but beats to be skunked even if the weather was nicer yesterday! Not a big fish by any means but great motivation to go out again. It was one of those 2 for one deals - gross! :)
With the Moon calendar minor time 8am-10am this morning, I couldn't resist to get out. Caught bunch of pike, and one "blond" cute little Muskie :)
Hi guys,
Do you know if Mooney's Bay will also get drained because of the Drawdown (https://parks.canada.ca/lhn-nhs/on/rideau/info/infonet/rabattement-drawdown)?
I know Dow's Lake is empty at the moment, but when it says "Water levels will be lowered between Hogs Back to Black Rapids beginning Tuesday, October 15, 2024" it doesn't mention the Mooney's Bay area explicitly as it does for Dow's Lake.
Thank you in advance!
Freezing my A** but slowing down a lot sealed the deal!
Hi everyone,
I am looking to go Guided Fishing in and around Ottawa within a reasonable budget. Did anyone here, have experience going with any guided fishing companies or any suggestions will welcome. Please suggest me with your experiences.
Thank you all
I caught a really nice walleye a few weeks ago from the Rideau river, near Brewer park. That place is actually quite scary now at dark... I was in a very secluded area, and a few if the pathways I took led to tents! I turned around right away lol I'm not looking for trouble, especially in the middle of nowhere at night! Anyways I hope you all enjoy the footage, this might be the last video of the season where I Wade into the water hahaha 😱
