What if Coaches Refused to Sign Here

Everybody is quick to blame Travis Green, since the date of his hire, for the Sens not being able to take a step forward. The comments were all extremely negative from when he was hired, with NJ & VAN fans telling us that he was not very good. Sens fans saw this and jumped on our management for bringing him in, but, what if management already knew he was bad - but he was literally the only person willing to take this job. That would also explain why we held on to DJ for so long, when even the Euge had no problem firing coaches.

Coaches talk to each other and follow the NHL. What if there is some kind of consensus around the league that our team does not have the skill, IQ, motivation, mentality to win, and they don’t play to win or listen to coaches. There’s only 32 head coaching jobs in the NHL, in the world, making them extremely rare; but it appears that nobody wanted this one. DJ is still involved with the NHL and surely talks to other coaches. This team ruined his chance to be an NHL coach ever again, and if you are a smart job applicant, you will ask the previous employee about the job.

It makes sense when you think about how long they searched for a coach with Jacques as the interim. Only to hire a guy who is essentially on his last chance to be an NHL coach and wouldn’t be hired anywhere else in the league.

I find it extraordinarily hard to believe this guy was anybody’s first choice, and the fact we took him for 4 years is also questionable and concerning. Green should have accepted anything as a last ditch Hail Mary to be an NHL coach. But what if even Green was hesitant to sign here, because he is aware of the underlying issues? It seems like Green held the advantage in a negotiation where he should be begging us for 1-2 years to prove he is a legit NHL coach.

Adam Gaudette: 12 goals. Greig + Amadio + Gregor + MacEwan + Cousins + Pinto + Perron: 10 goals.

Pretty tough to win games when we have so many players contributing practically nothing. It's so frustrating.

RD target: Jan Rutta from San Jose

Sens desperately need stability on defence, this guy Rutta was very steady for Tampa winning two cups, veteran and physical right shot dman. I wouldn't mind sending JBD over in a 1 for 1, both are free agents this summer

CMV: The next 5 years will be as bad as the previous 5 years (or worse)

I was thinking about another season without playoffs and looking towards the future, and can someone tell me if I'm being unfair here?

  • The current core is cooked, almost no shot they make the playoffs. They hired a Temu coach, their prized goalie acquisition (though early!) has provided 0 stability, bunch of key players regularly get injured. Stu has been a stud and Brady puts up numbers but that's not even close to enough.
  • Prospect cupboard is barren - the Sens should be cashing in now but look as bad as they ever have. Plus the looming spectre of losing a first rounder (thanks PD) that could be top 5 pick.
  • OK well..new arena? But that's going to have a massive price tag, and will likely result in ticket price increases no? I believe prices have already gone up. Will fans still be trekking out to Kanata to see the beginnings of another rebuild (or this stay-the-course-patience plan that is going nowhere), especially if it gets more expensive? Plus the new arena is still what, 5 years out at least?
  • Also if you haven't noticed the CAD$ is trending downwards fast, looming tariffs could exacerbate that and this would be particularly brutal for small market Canadian teams (in case anyone isn't aware, all salaries are paid in USD$).

Yes we got Andlauer and Staois, but they ain't magicians and I think Steve's moves so far have been mediocre at best. So if someone asked you what the future looks like for this franchise, what would you say? Because all I could come up with were the wise words of a man from Orleans:

"We're a team (and will continue to be one...probably)"

Ottawa added a new coach and a bunch of veteran 4th liners and a second string goalie and the team this year might be worse than last year? Why does this happen?

Penalty In Last Minute Of Period.

I hate when they get split between periods. It totally wrecks anything. What about a rule if you take a penalty in the last minute of the 1st or 2nd you are sent to the locker room but the team stays 5 on 5 until the start of the next period. Than you start for full 2min on a fresh sheet?

Placing blame.

The whole blame game is pretty annoying. I feel like you have forgotten it's a team sport. There's not one single person to call out to blame for the mediocrity... It's a group effort and the fact of the matter is, as a group they have not been good enough. Stutzle, Batherson, Gaudette have probably been the only consistent players so far. So if you wanna place blame, you can go through the whole damn team and find problems. Down vote me, i don't care cause I'm sick of reading the nonsense and will probably remove myself from all of Ottawa's social platforms because the comments I see are so blasphemous.

Not enough iq

I noticed recently our team doesn't have enough hockey iq.

Giroux is the only one I can think of that has an elite IQ.

The rest of our top 6 are average. Our defense are average. I've been thinking on this a while, and watching with this theory in mind. I don't think I'm wrong.

Because we have many skilled players. Play makers, goal scorers, etc.

We don't have game breaking IQ. Timmy has game breaking skill, his IQ is maybe above average. The rest of our "elite talent", I've been watching and they make poor decisions a lot.

I didn't think it was the coach. I didn't think it was the roster. I thought it was the goalies, and a need for the roster to mature. I said a few years ago "players can't score" but I thought they'd figure it out in a couple years.

Well the roster is maturing, forsberg is playing well and now we have ullmark. Even if I'm right and the coach is a lateral upgrade, what's going on?

Leaves me to come back to the players. I think as a whole they just don't have elite IQ. The more I watch the more I'm convinced.

In tonight's recap, I look at a fantastic night by Ottawa's first line, analyze how the Sens difficulty with zone entries and discipline cost them the game, talk about Ottawa's goals against issue, review the Senators month of November, and MORE!

Ok so on their website I see you can bring an empty bottle and there are refill stations in the arena. Then I come to Reddit and see there no refill stations. Are there refill stations or not? 😂
