Just curious if there is anyone in this group that are public servants that were asked to go back into work. If so, how do you commute if you do not have your own car ?
I am looking at buying a townhouse in Carleton Place for around 500-600k. I look on Onehome and it says property taxes are ~ 5k/year, another site says ~3K/year. But when I go on the city of Carleton Place website and use the rate they say of 1.3% it looks like it will be ~ 7k/year... Is this not crazy high? What do people in Carleton Place actually pay in property taxes? Property taxes in Stittsville seem to be about half what they are in Carleton Place...
Would love any input or any figures that other people pay. Any advice about where to look or areas to avoid buying? Thank you!
The Thomas Cavanagh Emergency Department has officially opened at Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital! This state-of-the-art facility was brought to life through community fundraising, provincial support, and the dedication of healthcare workers. The $5M “Healthy Futures. Together!” campaign, including a $1M donation from the Cavanagh family, made this milestone possible.

Hi everyone, I'm a reporter for the Algonquin Times — the college paper. Yesterday evening, the college president announced plans to sunset the Perth campus, citing financial troubles. After the Spring '26 semester, all enrolled students at Perth will be redirected to the Ottawa campus.
If you are a student studying at the Perth campus, I'd love to hear your thoughts about this matter. What do you study, which year are you in, and other than the obvious answer, how does this change affect you personally or your college career?
Alternatively, did you see this coming?
I realise this question comes up every few months in this subreddit, but I thought I would hazard an attempt.
I am hoping to find a family doctor in the Carleton Place area, willing to take new patients.
I have had no luck contacting medical centres directly, and it has now been more than a decade since I have had access to a family doctor.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would be grateful for the advice.
Looking for adult ball/hockey and ice hockey leagues. I'm new to town, and it's hard to find leagues right now. Would appreciate information for neighbouring towns as well (Perth, Almonte, Richmond etc.)

Just wondering if anyone could recommend a dog/house sitter for a week? We have two dogs and one is reactive around others, so dog-sitting at someone else's who has pets is probably not an option. Thanks in advance! Any advice welcome! (For reference we have a great kennel, but one of the dogs is younger and needs a lot of attention, so a week might be a long time for him to be boarding)
