Hey all, given the lack of available doctors in Ottawa, I'm just wondering if anyone can speak to any good walk-in clinics for trans patients? I've heard time and time again to avoid Apple Tree at all costs but I have no idea where I can go alternatively. I'm central but I can travel if that's all that's available.
Wanna meet more like-minded LGBTQ Black people in Ottawa? We're hoping this new casual server/club can be an opportunity to make new friends and to be a safe-space. Feel free to join and introduce yourself and join in on the discussions!
I see this sub's pretty quiet, but I was hoping to meet some people around the south and southwest of Ottawa. There's not a ton discussed online, and within that, most of it is all the way downtown. :( Anyone around Nepean?
Hello anyone who reads this.
Long shot, short story, I need a job. My last two workplaces both were filled with anti-LGBT creeps and I'm getting sick of it. I know it's unavoidable, but I figure this is me throwing out a line and seeing what bites.
I have retail, theatre, baking, and fast food experience, as well as experience in film and television, but any job is fine really.
Full or part-time doesn't matter as I debate going back to school soon anyways.
Thanks for any help.
Im in a little bit of a panic mode rn, so I'm sorry if this post is poorly structured, poorly worded or ramble-y.
Im from the GTA, but moved to Ottawa for university. While independent from my family, I've come out as transgender. My closest friends know this, but no one else. I love my family to bits, but they've been through a lot this year and I really don't want to put them through any more.
Since school let out, I've had a little bit of trouble finding a job. My dad's become convinced that this is due to my long hair (He grew up intensely Irish-Catholic, and while he's very progressive there's a bit of holdout on things like this). He called me up today and insisted several times that I get my hair cut short "to ease his mind", which I conceded to. I don't have any excuse for this beyond that having long hair keeps me feeling mentally well, which I don't feel comfortable admitting to my family rn.
What I really need here is a difficult ask, and I understand if this is impossible, but I'd really really appreciate some recommendations on LGBT-friendly or LGBT-centered hairdresses where I could get a short haircut that is still relatively androgynous so I can continue feeling normal while I wait for it to grow back. No matter how you cut it, this is a really stressful situation for me and I'd really appreciate a location that I can feel comfortable in. It's kind of an emergency- I'm planning on taking some photos with my hair tied back to look shorter tomorrow and lie, but I'd want to get my hair actually shortened ASAP, hopefully sometime this week.
I understand this is a weird and difficult situation, ultimately I am safe- I just need a little bit of help to avoid having to come out to my family.
Can anyone recommend an optometrist in Ottawa that is not going to be weird about me being visibly queer?
I live near Alta Vista, so anywhere around that or South Keys, etc. would be great but I can also drive for the right person!
Hey ottawa, I bought 4 rolls of 6 inch spyder tape to bind. After using 1 roll I hate how it feels. Looking to give the last 3 rolls to someone who needs it
Carleton University is hiring a trans DEI coordinator. I'm just passing the link along in case anyone here is interested in the posting.

I'm looking for a place to get my eyebrows feminized here in Ottawa, as they are a bit bushy. Does anyone have recommendations?
I'm wary of things that advertise themselves as "permanent" or "tattoos" as I am planning to get Facial Feminization Surgery done and that will change how my skin is lying on my brow bone.
My girlfriend is butch and looking to have a suit tailored. Any lesbians or trans mascs had good experiences at an Ottawa tailor? Really don't want to get someone who will suggest feminizing alterations or be weird about working with a woman who wears menswear!
Aside from youth focused support groups it really feels like we have no common queer spaces in this city aside from seedy bars. It's rare I see another trans person on dating apps either. How is ottawa this bad?
Us: early 30s, 4 month old baby, both parents are nonbinary, my wife is transfeminine. We like board games, video games and taking kiddo on adventures
You: queer of some flavor, parents of a kid under 1, 420 friendly but not around the kid, want queer friends who are also parents, vaccinated and take covid seriously.
Do you fit this criteria? Can we be friends?
I've been kicking around the idea of opening a queer-centric cafe for a while now. Queer spaces nowadays are usually only for adults (bars, clubs, etc), and those that exist don't really focus on the queer experience. I'd like to see a place where queer people can go to just exist.
I see it as a cross between Black Squirrel Books on Bank and Thyme and Again on Wellington. A coffee shop and bakery with a full menu of options, no matter your dietary restrictions, with lots of comfortable places to sit and chat. Board games, bookshelves, and maybe even a D&D table.
It won't be the corporate brand of queerness, either. We won't be splashing rainbows on every surface possible. We'll have the flags on the wall, and the pastries might be rainbow sometimes, but I prefer a subtler approach. We'll have a whole section of the bookshelves dedicated to cryptids, for instance.
Is this something that would interest the community?

Hi! I wanted to get a haircut and I really was hoping to find a queer owned place and I was just wondering if anyone knew any or at least a place that is friendly towards queer people.
I'm a journalist at CBC Ottawa looking for voices for a story.
If you had a gender-affirming surgery or treatment delayed during the pandemic, I want to hear from you. EX: "top surgery", "bottom surgery", facial feminization surgery, hormone treatment, etc.
You can message me on Reddit or email me at michelle.allan@cbc.ca

Thanks!
Recently got my first electric guitar and with work and school in the way, I haven't been motivated to practice much. Thought it would be cool to see if there are any other beginners that would be interested in practicing together? (with the hopes of potentially making some beautiful music together and maybe a generic super queer band? Wishful thinking maybe but ya gotta dream big! ha)
Looking for a trans friendly tailor in Ottawa. My binder is the right size but the arms are too tight so i need to have the arm holes made a tad bigger.
I am trying to put together the team of my dreams to play rec softball with the Ottawa Women's Softball League this year. I'm gay and sporty and simply want to play ball with a bunch of other sporty queers (which I'm using as an umbrella term, though I recognize many others would not). I've been recruiting on Lex and of our 6 players (so far), two of them have articulated some hesitancy about joining a "women's league" as transfemmes. In the spirit of inclusion I doubt the league will give us any trouble, but I'm wondering if anyone here has experience with the league or with trans inclusivity in rec leagues that can offer some insight? I'm not sure if I'm better off hoping for the best, reaching out to the league beforehand, etc.
Thanks!
Hello all! My name is Nikola Pokorna and I am an undergraduate psychology student at the University of Glasgow. I am making this post to recruit participants for my dissertation research project as I thought someone may be interested. I am investigating mental health-related behaviours and experiences in the LGBTQ+ community and I am looking for participants who identify as LGBTQ+ and are over 18 years of age. The survey takes only around 10-15 minutes and is completely anonymous and confidential. You can withdraw your consent at any point by closing the browser window before completing the study. If you decide to participate, thank you so much for your help.
If you would like more information and/or participate, please follow this link: https://survey.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bxsPTpa3ecZER4p
If you want any further information, or would like to receive a summary of the anonymised results of the study, do not hesitate to contact me (2328989p@student.gla.ac.uk).
Where does a local Ottawa lesbian go for a great undercut hair style !? I'd love a barber shop with experience! Any suggestions would be great :)
Looking for friends that like to hang out, camp and do things besides go to bars and hook up. Im in the age group 40-50.
Curious about cruising locations in and around Ottawa. I've been here for a few years now but am not familiar with many. Locations that are popular with the under 50 crowd?
Might check it out tomorrow
