    Compensation for Loss of Electricity

I just started living on my own in Memphis and I need some advice. So we all know a big ass storm came through last night. For my residence, I heard a loud pop and then the electricity went out. If you look at the surrounding areas, the electricity is still out. This was yesterday evening. The maintenance guy said the transformer blew and that was the last we heard from him. This morning the electricity is still out and there’s a gate that needs to be accessed to enter the property. I have feeling this isn’t a utility issue regarding the city, but it’s pertaining to the property manager and I want compensation. I just spent $2000 between a deposit, August’s rent and September’s rent. This doesn’t even include groceries. This is insane.

    Lights on if wipers on!!

The amount of cars I see without their headlights on when it is raining is extremely frustrating. Please, for everyone’s safety, turn your lights on. It makes your car more visible to everybody around you and it allows you to see more clearly since it’s cloudy and dark.

Anyone interested in a writing club?

    Hi neighbors,

I’m interested in organizing a writing club to share work, give and get critiques, and offer general support for other writers. I’ve published a couple things and am working on a novel, and would love to have a set-in-stone meeting for poets and authors around town.

I’m thinking Saturdays and going to pick a quiet coffee shop that would be ok with letting a group gather every week for a few hours to share and support.

Who’s interested? And if anyone has a suggestion on a meetup location, let me know. I’m east of Shelby Farms but happy to drive somewhere more centrally-located. I’d ideally like to have a first meeting September 28 at around 2pm, and would also like to meet somewhere that would be under-21-friendly.

    Powered places for Dinner

Hurricane Francine is killing my evening vibe. Any powered place to dine? I’m circa Germantown but have gas, will travel.

    Hoard fest 1996

I know it's a long shot, but did anyone tape the MTV special? My mom is in it talking to Lenny Kravitz. My dad was one of the photographers for it. We searched through YouTube, and there's some of the show, but not the part with Lenny.

Someone has uploaded hundreds of hours of old newscasts and local ads to YouTube

Anyone just sit up late at night and deep dive certain subjects, and see what you can find? I’ve been on a nostalgic kick lately (I was probably 2-5 when most of these were recorded), but many of the uploads go back from 83 to say… when channel 24 became abc. It’s amazing. And at a time, during local sports… THEY GAVE WRESTLING RESULTS, AND RESULTS OF DOG RACES AT SOUTHLAND!

Why do Memphis Thrift Stores suck so bad.

I feel like every time I go to a thrift store in Memphis it’s all junk that should have been thrown in the trash 80-90% of the time. There are numerous drop off locations though that far outnumber the stores. Where is all the stuff going? Is this a result of goodwill auctioning anything of value online?

Power went out at suddenly at Wal-Mart off of Whitten. I ran to the register while they had backup power. Unfortunately, I was 5 minutes away from getting everything checked out when it all went down down. So how is y'all's day going??

    License Kiosk

Good Morning! Has anyone had success with a license kiosk in town?

If so, which one did you use?

My husband needs to replace his because our toddler hid his wallet somewhere, and we can’t find it🙃

    How long for MAS spay/neuter?

Has anybody adopted a pet from MAS that couldn’t go home yet? How long did it take for them to call you for pick up?

Adopted a pet from them earlier this week. I understand that they’re short staffed so I don’t wanna call and be pushy but I’m so ready to bring my baby home.

They said 24 hours but it’s day 3 so I’m just wondering how long it usually takes.

Hurricane effects on travel to Mississippi?

    Hi,

I’m flying into Memphis later this evening and then need to take a car to Ole Miss. any residents have a sense of how hard it’ll be to get one/whether the rain might make the route sufficiently hazardous that I should stay in Memphis overnight?

    Why is Memphis so empty?

We’re visiting Memphis in the past 3 days for the first time. First, it’s a very cool city with good people!

With that being said, we noticed something strange. THIS CITY IS EMPTY!

We came from Nashville where everything feels so lively and energetic. While Beal street is cool at night, the rest of the city feels like all the people are gone! Almost like a ghost town. The Mud Island was empty. Even places in midtown felt really like people aren’t there. Many shops and restaurants are empty too.

Can you explain why is this happening?i
