Soundbars
99.9% of the time Soundbars or HTiB (Home Theater in a Box) systems are not a good investment of your time and money.
It is the general consensus of r/hometheater not to recommend these things and instead simply steer a user toward a 2.0 or 2.1 system made of quality, Audio-Centric name brand components which are easy to assemble and cheap enough for low budget or space conscious buyers.
Most can be expanded to 5.1 if you buy the correct items in the correct order.

I'm looking to buy a new TV and the TLC 805K 55" is currently at the top of my list after my own research. I'd just like to know if there is anything better I could get at around this price range that I might have missed or if anyone knows anything about this TV that might make it unfavourable.
If anyone has this TV and could give me a rundown of what you personally think about it that would be amazing but from what I can see at the given price point it seams great!
Thank you
Hi all. Moving in to a new place and there is a room I'd like to make in to our movie room. 4.8 x 4.9m Family of 3. Can anybody recommend me some cinema seating that would go well in that size room? Would like the black leather with LED lights etc if possible.
I recently bought a home that has a spare room that I want to convert into a theater room. I'm trying to decide on the best bang for my buck audio setup. It's a regular sized bedroom. I have some klipsch r26f speakers and center speaker with a pioneer vsx lx102 receiver that i use in my garage. Would that work if I just add a sub and some surround speakers? Or do I need to upgrade? I, of course, want to keep this as low-cost as possible, but I don't want to be cheap either. Any tips?
Hi all,
I recently bought a Denon x1800h with the Teufel Ultima 40 Surround set. I calibrated it with Audyssey. The front speakers are big standing speakers with full range sound, so the crossover is set the full range. The subwoffer output is set to LFE only. I'm listening relatively quietly because of the neighbors. The calibration set the subwoofer to -12db. The "bass boost" on the subwoofer is off and the volume is set to medium (0db).
Now when I play music, even bass-heavy ones like "Still D.R.E.", I hear basically nothing from the subwoofer. I put my hand lightly on the subwoofer, but I feel no vibration. But I tried with some test files from a windows computer, and the subwoofer does work actually.
Is it normal that it very rarely works during normal listening or movies?
Sorry for the noob question, I'm so new to this, I don't really know what to expect. I was a bit worried that I messed up my subwoofer somehow.
Thank you.
Going to buy a 2nd sub. Best placement is at rear of the room. I have my current sub at the right rear running a 50ft sub cable. Can i use a splitter at the sub and just daisychain a 10ft sub cable to sub 2 at the left rear or is the better method to run 2 seperate sub cables from the avr? (I have split sub out 1 and 2 on avr)
Was hoping to get away from having to buy and run another long sub cable from the avr
Hey everyone! Getting into this hobby, as in this going to be my first ever surround set-up.
I want to get the most bang for my buck so looking at the used market, considering mixing and matching between buyers (maybe if I really have to, between brands too? avoiding that for now). Still looking at new just cause of the ease that provides. But looking at used, I was hoping to keep it within 1000$ with everything, A/V, cables, sub, etc., but in cases willing to forgo the sub for better speakers. I'm fine with a bit of bass.
But then then this Fluance AVHTB 5.0 set appeared for 100$. I don't want to be disappointed with my set-up, but I was already looking at the Fluance SXHTB new. Seems like the AVHTB is its younger slightly more budget version. I'm not sure how they compare to each other. Still, I was willing to stretch the budget for brand new. And also spend more on speakers already, haha.
TL;DR / Conclusion
Should I just go for the Fluance AVHTB 5.0 set for 100$? Put the rest of the money elsewhere? Save it? Am I going to be disappointed?
Thanks in advance!
Hello people, I am planning on purchasing and oled TV and was thinking if the background wall should be painted pitch black or not. Will it enhance the feel of watching a good movie or not?
If you look at the Pic the current TV there is 42". Planning to upgrade to 65" which just about fits edge to edge between the walls. How do I support the TV if I do not want to mount to the wall recessed to the back but rather want it flush between the two walls. Please advice.
Hello HT, looking for a recommendation for wall mounted speakers or passive soundbar to replace my SVS Prime Towers in secondary setup. We have a little one who is starting to crawl, and don’t want anything floor mounted. Not interested in tethers, gates, etc. Satisfied with the sound, but an upgrade would be nice.
Speakers powered by Yamaha Receiver, large room (30x30) so recommendations should be reasonably efficient. Setup to remain 2.0 as this is a secondary space.
Budget is $1,500, hoping to score some kind of Black Friday deal.
I don't know much about tvs except this is a big screen and a smart tv so i can watch YouTube on it. It's it a good bit overall for this price or no?
Hello Experts! :D
First and foremost, I want to extend my gratitude in advance for any feedback or insightful input you can provide.
I currently own an LG CX 65” OLED TV, which I purchased when it was first released. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and fell in love with the stunning picture quality that OLED technology offers. Recently, I also acquired a PlayStation 5, and the gaming experience has been absolutely amazing, thanks to the incredible graphics and responsiveness of the TV.
However, a few months ago, I moved to a larger living space where my TV is now positioned further away from my seating area—approximately 6 to 7 meters (about 20 to 23 feet) away. Given this distance, the screen has started to feel a bit small, and I’ve noticed the picture appearing dimmer than it used to.
With that in mind, I’m looking to upgrade to a larger TV that will also offer enhanced features to ensure it is somewhat future-proof. I’m particularly interested in specifications that cater to gaming, as well as optimal viewing for TV shows and movies, which are my primary forms of entertainment.
I’ve come across recommendations for the LG G4, as well as models from Sony and Samsung, such as the S90 series. However, I'm finding it difficult to navigate the specifics of each model and understand their strengths and weaknesses. While I have a fondness for the LG interface and panel quality, I’m open to considering options from other brands if they offer significantly superior performance or features.
Additionally, if there are any upcoming models on the horizon that are worth waiting for, I would greatly appreciate your advice, especially since I’m not closely following developments in the tech market.
Regarding my budget, I’m willing to invest up to $10,000. If you have recommendations for a sound system upgrade that would complement the new TV, I would be very grateful for those suggestions as well.
Thank you again for your assistance!
Best regards.
Originally, i was planning to buy Sony A90K, but after some research, i abandoned that, instead i'm struggling between C4 and S90D,now, due to space limitations, not able to get G4 nor S90C nor S90D(QD-OLED)nor S95D nor QN95D.
I know Samsung QC issues and S90D is using LG WOLED panel for 42" and 48" model. At 42"-48", is LG C4 OLED EVO better than Samsung S90D W-OLED?
Recommendations for $400-$500 sound setup for my TV in my new house. Using mainly for both music (70%) and shows/videos (30%). TIA!
Built a new office/home theater room.
Dimensions 14' x 25' x 9.5'
Seating position is about 14', with a 165" projector screen.
Going to be a 2.0 setup to start. The room doubles as a golf sim, so an aucustically transparent screen wasn't an option, so there's nowhere for a center channel.
Planning to do tower speakers and move them out of the way when I'm launching golf balls. May eventually go 4.1 or add Atmos, but for now, just 2.0
I'm looking at either the kef q950 or emotiva xt2, with a Denon avr-s760h.
I couldn't find many reviews on the emotivas, but I did see one that complained they were difficult to get aligned, so that's a slight concern. The kef q950 seem to have good recommendations, but they're 1-2months out.
Open to other suggestions given my setup as well.
Thanks!
Have had Xbox series x, an older Yamaha receiver from 2014. Just upgraded to a Samsung s90DD.
Connecting through the e ARC HDMI, I get... Stereo. But I get 4k.
If I connect the Xbox to the receiver, and the receiver to the TV, I get 7.1 from the Xbox, but not 4k, I assume because the receiver isn't 4k compatible.
If I get a new receiver, that'll solve the Xbox issues, but I'm a little annoyed I can't get 4k and 7.1 through my brand new"smart" TV.
Is there a way to pass the 7.1 through the TV? Seems like not.
Only way to get 4k on my Xbox AND 7.1 is to get a new receiver, isn't it?
Tell me I'm missing something.
Thank you.
My question for ya'll is, should I purchase a random used cheap center channel like a JBL Northridge E Series EC-35 Center or should I just wait a few months when I can afford to get a matching Stage 2 center?
So I have this TV in my living room that I've just been using the TV audio with. I'm looking for an upgrade that is the bare minimum, since I can't really afford much else atm. I figured that would be bookshelf speakers and I've been looking at these:
https://www.amazon.ca/Edifier-R1280Ts-Powered-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B088685QVJ
Would those work for what I want? I've also been wondering if I could hook those up to my PC as well. It would be nice to have the option. Would that work? Or is there any reason to consider speakers that are specifically for PCs instead?
I apologize if this is not allowed or is covered elsewhere, but I read through the FAQ and tried search, but couldn’t find what I was looking for. I appreciate your patience.
I’m moving and my buddy is giving me this projector. I would like to get some (cheaper) home theater speakers and send the audio from the projector to the speakers wirelessly. I don’t need this to be the most amazing sound experience, I just need to hear the media without lag. Could someone possibly explain the options for a very stupid man?
Projector pictured.
Setup: This is temp until my new TV stand arrives in a few days. I kept my current sub between TV and right front speaker (about a 1/3 from right corner). The 2nd sub i put to the left of the left front (about 1/4 way to the left corner. Initially I put both subs at -29 db (1 sub was at -26 db). Audessy was not rerun because placement is temp and sub isn't broken in yet.
Impressions:
Very surprised the bass wasn't overwhelming. I expected to have to turn it down even further because I doubled the wattage and cone area. Instead I ended up turning them both up to -26 db. Even at this level, 2 subs did not initially seem to give the same output as 1 sub. As the second sub is breaking in it is getting a bit better (or maybe the improvement is in my head?). I've moved the second sub a bit but I'm resisting the urge to tweak too much as the layout will change with the new TV stand. I'm a bit disappointed I'm not getting more headroom and noticeably better bass.
On the plus side the bass is very even throughout the room. Previously the bass would change a lot if I walked around. Now, it is super even. That part is pretty nice.
Question: Is this expected?
I'll update here once I get the new cabinet and final placement of the subs
I currently use a Denon setup with 5.1.2, using a 7 channel 4k (about 5yr old Denon AVR). I use it for streaming an Nvidia Shield for everything, including Atmos movies from my home server.
My issue? I also have 2 other zones to play music, which i have to have a whole other receiver. I tried to use the Denon to play in all zones, but the old Denon only allows analog on the zones with my old receiver. It is irritating to have to push a lot of buttons and play music from a tablet to play on everything.
I will never use discs or gaming in the future. My .2 speakers are in-ceiling. The only possible future speakers are front height.
GOAL: An AVR which can play to all zones from the HDMI Port using the Nvidia Shield, and keep my 5.1.2 at minimum. 8k would only be to future proof, and 13 channel would add front height (not ceiling) if possible but it's a luxury not a necessity. OPTIONS:
Denon AVR-X6700H 11.2-Ch x 140 Watts 8K A/V Receiver (Cheapest option at $1700 refurb right now)
ONKYO TX-RZ70 Dirac 11.2-Ch x 140w THX 8K A/V Receiver ($1800 refurb right now)
Denon AVR-X8500H 13.2-Ch x 150 Watts 4K A/V Receiver ($2200 refurb) Lose 8k option but gain front height channel.
The 13 channel 8k options are currently way out of my budget (unless there is one I don't know about), and I want this to last 5-10 yrs.
I know nobody knows for sure, but thought I’d ask here. Anybody think the price drops below $4k for Black Friday? Or no way. It’s already lower and stays put. Doesn’t look like it’s ever gone below $4k but I could be wrong. Thanks
I know that Rocketfish has RF WiFi systems to have a wireless setup for the rear surround speakers, but I need two separate receivers and possibly one transmitter setup , as my rear speakers are sitting about 15 feet apart. I have seen some Bluetooth ones on Amazon but need to some tried and tested suggestions
I’m buying an Epson LS12000. I’ve watched a lot of reviews but can’t decide I’d I need to go through all of the work of putting the projector in the other room and have it shine through the glass to remove the noise. I have a closet area and ventilation to make it possible. But if others find the noise not to be a problem with this projector I might just avoid the large project and mount it at the back of the room.
TV: LG G3 OLED Receiver: Denon x3500h TV HDMI Inputs: 1: Roku Ultra 2024 2: Receiver (eArc) 3: PS5 4: Steam Deck
For the past few weeks, auto input switching has not been working on the TV side, and if the system has been newly switched on, I have to manually toggle the receiver from and back to TV audio for the sound to work.
I have tried disabling and the re-enabling CEC on all the devices and doing a full power cycle. I am hoping I don't have to do a full reset of everything because getting the settings perfect was a real PITA.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
My Denon AVR-X1700H that I just bought started doing this today. The main setup screen has some artifacts and a bar at the bottom, but if I go into speaker setup the whole screen turns green (with green artifacts in the green screen). Is my unit hosed?
My Panasonic ub820 playback info is showing Dolby Vision 12-bit, but my Denon s760h playback info says it is outputting Dolby Vision rgb 8-bit. I have my Denon set to 8k enhanced.
