recommendations: QC or 700

hi everyone! as the title suggests i’d like to get some thoughts about the QC line vs 700. i’m looking at some second hand pairs now and i don’t know which to go for. i really like the look of the 700, but i like some of the silver QCs too (love the 15 but i don’t think they’re wireless?) i’m pretty clueless about headphones, so i just want something that has good sound quality for music and is comfortable for long wearing. i don’t want anything too bulky as i only have a small head and small ears lol. love the retro look so that’s a big plus! okay thanks !!!

fixing nc 700 discolouration?

so this very beat up nc 700 is available for a relatively good price. i know the ear pads can just be replaced, but im wondering if anything can be done about the metal discolouration. if i were to put acetone on it would it all go a uniform colour? has anyone else tried any DIY fixes? i know this is a common problem with the older pairs, just wanted to see if there was anything i could do or whether its worth waiting and paying more for a newer pair without the issue.

also i’m new to headphones and i like these for the look but if you have strong feelings about another type being better (the QCs specifically) please let me know!

thanks everyone!

I found these guys on for sale second hand for $200 "Bose Quietcomfort 35 II Gaming Headset Unopened" what is the likelyhood im getting scammed? Is this a good price? Are these headphone worth it for traveling work calls (mic quality, mic picking up ambient noise, ANC quality)?

RIP my QC earbuds. My deployment buddy.

Bought it in Jan 25, 2022 refurbished. It no longer connects to my phone with all the possible troubleshooting tips. I carried it with my everyday on deployment. Sleep. Eat. Work. Gym. Everyday for about at least 3-4 hours or more. Wish I can fix it but I think it’s over now. RIP.

QC Ultra - Using a headphone amplifier can damage the headphones?

My reason to use a headphone amplifier was the low sound with wired connection compared to bluetooth. But I didn't know then that all I had to do was just swiping the volume strip on the right side of headphones. So I used an amplifier and it delivered crispy and distorted sound even though volume still wasn't high enough. I stopped using amplifier when I discovered the volume strip thing. Seems like my headphones wasn't damaged; it delivers non-distorted sound and ANC works fine. I just wanted to make sure if amplifiers could damage the sound or ANC. I attached the headphone amplifier's image below.

Thanks in advance.

Bose Ultra - On and Off (So confusing!)

Hey there! I'm really having trouble knowing when this product is on or off. I believe you can only turn the product on when it's on your head (if you hold the power button on for a few seconds, and it's not on your head... it won't turn on) If you take the product off your head while it's on, there's no way to tell if the product is on - based on the lights. the old product had a switch that would indicate if the product was on or off. what else have you learned that you can share? I have the auto-off feature for 5 minutes. The conectivity of this device is ruining my experience with it.

Why no usb-c audio on QC ultra?

I recently purchased a display demo of the QC Ultra on eBay for $120. It was brand new and came with the USB cable used for store displays, as well as a 2.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable. The first thing I noticed is that it supports USB-C digital audio and is recognized as "Lone Starr" on my source device. If they could enable this feature in the retail firmware, it would be so convenient to carry just my headphones and my phone with a USB-C to USB-C cable for enjoying lossless audio.

Unfortunately, the demo firmware (version 99.5.22, if I remember correctly) lacks on-head detection, does not retain user settings or the pair list after rebooting, and has poor battery management (it can only charge to 70 percent and doesn't last long). So, I flashed the firmware to the latest retail version 1.6.7. Now it functions like a retail model, but it has an annoyingly bright tone when powering on, which is a contrast to the more pleasant sound of the demo firmware. Additionally, I lost the USB audio feature, so I can no longer use it with my phone without a DAC to listen to lossless audio.

I wish I could dump the demo firmware before flashing but can't figure out a way.

Are the ultra open as bad as the Huawei Freeclip in public spaces?

The Freeclip is good overall but it's so bad in public spaces, are the ultra open slightly better in this? I've only heard it's laggy and the software could be much better

Headphone ANC amplifies high pitched noise

I noticed that every time there's a higher pitched noise, like a click (for example when I open/close my water bottle) while im wearing my qc headphones the sound is really loud in my ears, even if the sound isn't that close. It also happened before while I was outside and someone dropped something from afar, but I could hear it extremely clearly. It also happens when I talk too loud or yell while wearing them, which is really annoying because I can hear a sound that kinda matches my voice but really really loud in my ears, just for a second. It was also the case with my second qc headphones (Which I got from warranty because my old one got fried) so it can't just be a faulty model.

Is this just how ANC works? I cannot find anything about this or anyone talk about it online. It happens no matter noise cancelling is on or not.

Which hardcase fits the QuietComfort SC headphones

I ordered some in-ear ultras and was sent the quiet comfort sc headphones by mistake (at the same price). Having tried them, I like them more than the earbuds and I'm going to see if I can keep them/buy some of not.

Which hardcase would fit them please?

I know lots of people don't use them but I'm 100% the person that needs one as it'll get based against my wheelchair in my bag ect. Bose are out of stock and the product code they've given me don't show anything online, even for their own website.

What can I get and where please? I've had a look online but it's not clear. Ideally not Amazon please, they don't deliver to us.

Thank you for your help!

Sent the QuietComfort SC headphones by mistake. Should I upgrade to the ultras.?

I ordered some inear ultras and was sent the quiet comfort sc headphones by mistake (at the same price). Having tried them, I like the headphones more than the earbuds.

If I hadn't been getting the earbuds, I was planning on the QC Ultra headphones. Is the difference between the QCSC that I have and the Ultras really worth it? Is it worth the upgrade? I mostly want the noise cancelling to quiet the world around me, with music and Audiobooks being the main things I listen to. Is the NC much better on the ultras? It's good on these one but not as good as I expected having not had NC headphones before. For example, I could hear the tram engines from way up the hill as if I wasn't wearing anything.

Thank you for your help!

Combined volume of Companion 5 and Sound tocuh 20

I play these speakers /two systems together and they are placed near each other and sound is amazing. Not sure because ST20 is wave type and they are complimating each other. Does anyone know if companion 5 is also wave type?

Can I use a Bose Solo Soundbar 2 with two other speakers for a PC setup?

I have a slightly unconventional setup for my computer. I basically have two elevated Edifier bookshelf speakers that are raised 2 feet above my monitors. I'd like to add this soundbar beneath my main monitor, hopefully to act as a center speaker (for dialogue).

My biggest concern is that there would be some distortion or lag between the soundbar audio and speaker audio.

Is such a setup possible?

(the other reason is that I have a $100 bose gift card expiring tomorrow)

Companion 5 volume control from PC

Bose Companion 5 uses USB out on the PC as the audio input to the base unit which has I believe 10 pin connector. It uses generic USB driver and volume control is not very linear. Does anyone know a work around this? There is controlpod, I like to set the minimum volume there and then use the computer volume control in the near the right tray.

Bose QC Ultra Random Shutdowns — Anyone Else?

Experiencing persistent issues with my Bose QC Ultra headphones and curious if others are facing the same.

Headphones randomly power off (complete silence, requires hard reboot) when:

  • ANC is active but no audio is playing (e.g., using purely for noise reduction)
  • Connected via Bluetooth to iPhone/MacBook

Behavior:

  • Shutdowns occur randomly, not location-specific
  • Power button often unresponsive until 10+ second hard reset

Current Settings:

  • Firmware 1.6.7 (shows as "up to date")
  • Auto play/pause disabled
  • Auto-off set to never
  • Manufactured July 2024

I got Bose quietcomfort headphones and I noticed that they make like a staticy sound randomly but it’s mostly when I stop or play music. Is this normal or should I exchange them. Does anyone know how to fix it?

The latest pick up 😌

I have previously owned the Quiet Comfort 45s (silver) and NC 700s (black). I also had the air pods max and while they were good sound quality wise they were absolute tanks in terms of their heft. So when it came time to purchase a new pair of over ear headphones the choices were, Sonos, Sony and… BOSE. After reading/watching SEVERAL reviews and demoing the headphones in-store. I ultimately decided to opt for the Bose, but I still needed to choose a color. Originally I had planned to pick up white smoke, which I continue to believe is a solid choice, but after seeing photos of the diamond edition, confirming that the metallic part was indeed metal, and viewing the units in store I came away with the pair you see above (a minty open box pair from Best Buy). Glad to be back on the squad!

Bose headphones stop for a blip of a second - HELP!

I just got my first pair of QuietComfort headphones and after about two minutes of streaming music from my iPhone, the music stops for less than a second. It happens every few minutes. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting, using another app to play music, and even another iPhone and it still happens. I was on the fence with them and even went and got the QuietComfort Ultra and same thing happens! Anyone else experience this? Is this just crap luck that BOTH are doing that? Any suggestions how to fix? I did make sure they were on most recent firmware too. I bought them both open box “excellent” condition from Best Buy.

Appreciate any help!

New Headphones + Bonus Question!

This is the first pair of nice headphones I've ever owned & I love them!

Prior to this I don't think I've ever spent more than $30 on headphones. I have definitely been missing out all these years, what an incredible difference!

Question - Does anyone know if the replacement 2.5 -> 3.5mm cable w/ mic from the Bose website is longer than the one that is included with these headphones?

Bose QC Ultra Headphones turn off when taking off one ear

My QC Ultra Headphones stop working (stop playing audio and stop the noise cancelation) when i have on ear off.

I disabled both On-Head Detection options (Auto Play/Pause and Auto Answer Call). I also have my Auto-Off set to 24 Hours on the Power settings, however this happens only a short while after having one ear taken off.

This doesn't happen when i have both ears on, and usually not either if i have the whole headset taken off and laying on my table.

Is this normal? Is there a way to turn this off?

Searching for a good BT adapter for the Bose QC Ultra earbuds

I recently received the QC Ultra earbuds as a gift and have been really enjoying them so far, but when using them with my PC, the lag is really noticeable. I've searched and found that it's probably the BT adapter I'm using (a cheap one from TP-Link). I have found some that are recommended, like the BT600 and the BT-W5 and BT-W6, but I can't decide which one to choose. My main focus with the earbuds is mostly gaming and watching videos, so latency is a big deal, but I don't want to sacrifice audio quality too much—a sweet spot would be nice. If anyone could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.
