Recently picked up an old custom built 1x15” cab with an Altec 421a in it. Was carrying it home and the leather strap on top snapped and the cab fell about 6” to a foot but hit the sidewalk hard enough to crack the shitty plastic wheels on the casters. Of course… they are probably about 50 years old.
No visible damage to the speaker or cab, no rattle. Speaker looks fine as far as I can tell. Seems secured pretty firmly to the baffle.
Won’t have a chance to check it with a proper amp for a day and I’m worried the spill might have killed the sweet vintage speaker on the inside.
Anybody feel like speculating as to whether it’s fine or not?
For those of you who play one, what are your favorite settings? Do you play with pedals? What amp models do you prefer?
Mine is the first Tweed with the volume up a bit. Gets me a decent amp ish blues sound :)
Had a faulty Victory V40 Deluxe combo that my local shop agreed to exchange after a year of issues. Shop also had a renovation sale with these amps reduced (both display models). Paid a bit more on top of the trade but thrilled with my results so far. The Princeton sings, even at bedroom volume and the Sheriff 25 absolutely barks through my Mesa 1x12. Only got these this week so very much in the honeymoon period.
My relatively new (to me) SV20 on my also new to me 1960tv cab
Ive been looking for the matching sv212, but couldnt justify it given the price and the fact that id want to swap the 70/80s for greenbacks.
came across the cab for a good price and couldnt pass it up!
I have a schecter diamond series nick johnston strat, what would be the best amp to buy for around 400-500$
Is the Fender Mustang LT25 good for an Epiphone SG Modern?
So I have an upcoming gig and plan do play my Blackstar studio 10. I will have a mic on it but I heard the venues PA is kinda shit (not very reliable source tho) should I be worried? Any tips?
Can anyone help. I have a TAE. Works well with my ac30. Also with headphones. My question is can I plug speakers / monitors directly into the TAE and do they need to be powered monitors? Then if I do this can I play with a mix of live amp and studio monitors. What will this sound like. Is this what anyone else has done? Cheers!!!
I mostly play post-punk and other clean genres so i need something with great cleans that takes pedals well. However, i also really enjoy playing metal and punk too.
I've always been told that as long as you have great cleans you can just chuck a good distortion pedal (which i have) in front of it and you will get a great distorted tone too, so im at a bit of a crossroads here.
Do i go for the amp with incredible cleans (lionheart), the one with incredible high gain tone and decent cleans (ironball), or the one i perceive to be the middle ground (tubemeister)
Im gonna be playing at bedroom level 90% of the time but see myself recording and jamming soon as well.
Any and all input is greatly appreciated, especially if you own or have owned one or several of these amps!
So the filter caps are commonly what you're told to drain and check for safety; but I'm still pretty novice at understanding all this and wanted to ask out of concern, some boards have other large value caps that aren't the filter caps. Should you check all those too for current? Or does draining the filter caps take care of the major concerns?
Hopefully no one bites my head off, I've watched multiple training videos on this, but everyone only seems to mention the filter caps.
Thanks!
Hey guys!
I picked up a Selmer zodiac this week, having no experience with them, the amp was apparently recently serviced.
Channel 1 sounds rich and full, pretty loud as well.
Channel 2 (with all the tone buttons) sounds completely different with the rotary control selected and set up the same as channel 1, a bit quieter, brighter and thinner.
The tone buttons seem insanely bright until I get down to the bass and contra/low bass modes, is this normal? Just a quirky amp? Or do I have something that needs repairing?
Thanks!
Hi there, looking for some technical help with my new to me second hand blues junior.
The amp starts buzzing after being turned on even with the volume and master at 0. At playing volumes it’s just this monotonous buzz. It is noiser at louder volumes although the noise becomes more like radio static (this may just be standard tube amp noise)
I’ve noticed today that one tubes filament doesn’t glow like the others. It looks red but isn’t running hot like you would it expect.
Are these signs of a bad tube that needs to be replaced?
Please only reply of you know what your talking about. Would really appreciate some expert help, thanks.
Guitar center has a clearance sale for the Boss Katana MkII 100w guitar combo amplifier for 400$ brand new. Is this amp any good?
I’m looking into getting a Randall combo amp, I really like crowbar so I’m going for that sound. Is the RG50/80 the same circuit as the 100 with more power or are they different? (Forgive me for my lack of knowledge if this is a stupid question)
What amp would be best for metal style music?
Just got the Bogner Uber Ultra as the modern high gain companion to my Soldano. This thing sounds so aggressive. Really loving it so far.
Got is since 2 weeks and I’m very glad I’ve pulled the trigger. Already have a Marshall JVM205H and love it to death, but EVH is so much tighter and raw. Blue channel with OD in front of it it’s pure magic. Planning to play a few gigs this month and can’t wait for it.
Been thinking about getting into electric guitar for a while and want to play alot of Green Day type music. That's a good amp to achieve that without spending too much money?
I'm looking to buy my first tube amp and I've come across the silver jubilee 2525 head and cab 20 watt. Has anyone had any experience with one of these? There's nowhere for me to go try one out before I buy so might have to take a gamble and just buy off the internet. Any advice would be appreciated.
On ProAudioStar, used one going for 240 USD, new one going for 270 USD. Wondering if extra 30 bucks is worth it, appreciate any advice 🙏🏻
I used it on my gig last night and was very happy with it. Used my fender hot rod as a cabinet (for now). It’s a great little amp, very predictable easy to work with. I still want to dial it in better and either buy a matching cabinet or dress up a 112 cab that I have to match it.
I just bought this japanese amp and the previous owner drew on it. (Marker I guess?) I wanted to ask if anybody knew any techniques regarding removing paint. If not I'll get a replacement cloth.
I just picked up a 100 watt RV MkIII, and have been playing it through my '66 Fender Bandmaster closed back 212 cab with the Altec Lansing 417s in it. While that sounds fantastic, i want to try it out on some modern ceramic speakers.
I have a nice open/closed back 410 cabinet with a choice of speakers to put in an X pattern. How would you set it up and why?

Hey all,
Just recently bought a Tone King Sky King, and while it’s probably the best amp I’ve ever played, I noticed when I use fuzz or overdrive I hear a rattling noise, almost like a rhythmic pulse. I checked as many areas of the amp as I could to see if there were any loose screws or pieces, checked speaker wire, my guitar, and guitar cables as well before turning my attention to the tubes.
Full disclosure: I’ve never dealt with tubes before, but I took one out as I thought it was the source and put it back in. It seemed fine for a little bit but then the issue continued. Is this a tube issue or is it possible I missed something else? I’m waiting to take it to a tech because I want to see if I can solve this first. Thanks for any helpful hints or tricks you provide!
Look lovely but…anyone have any opinions? My ‘local’ guitar shop is over 3 hours away and need an amp short notice for a gig. It’s this or the NuX 40… Help!
