For all things related to the Line 6 Helix/HX family. IRs, presets, patching and routing.
With the popularity that the Line 6 Helix will certainly have, this should be a place for us to help one another with feedback and advice on the unit.

Wondering if there's any issues to watch for with the digital tonr master amp. And any good pointers on how to dial in a great tone? I have a 4 song set coming up and will need 4 very distinct tones ranging from shimmering melody lines, to a solo, to distortion power chords. Feeling a bit overwhelmed.
Surprisingly in the analog world I always really like V30s but in the Helix the Mandarin cab really seals the deal for my heavy tones. Happy Straturday.
I just played an outdoor gig with my Helix Floor and because of the sun I couldn't read my scribble strips or tell which effects were on/off. How do people deal with this? I have my LEDs set to the on/off mode to make it more obvious but I had to hold my hand up to make shade a few times to confirm if a block was on/off. I guess I can make printed labels and rely more on snapshots so I am not toggling effects on and off? I'm frustrated because I spent a bunch of time building my presents only to not be able to navigate them when playing outside.
I’m a brand new amp/pedalboard convert and just unboxed my Helix floor and plugged in my CS Strat, and it sounds horrible. I’m playing through studio earphones to get just find my way around for now. The headphone volume cuts out to zero at around 4:00 and stays dead between 4:00-6:00 when turning the volume up. Everything seems very quiet, and the presets are crazy saturated with pre-delay, causing significant latency on the signal.
Is this all the normal, or did I get a unit that has issues? Wondering if I should just start by plugging it into the computer and running a firmware update before doing anything else. After an hour of tweaking, I haven’t found a sound I’d consider even useable really at all.
Just wanted ask if you could trigger Eq preset change via midi by just stomping on the foots witch.
Let say I'm using a something like source audio eq2 on the fx loop of the HX Stomp.
I have 2 settings set for each foot switch channel . Chnnel 1 will be Rythm tone and Channel 2 is Solo tone.
So I wonder if I could trigger the Channel 2 to cut my 2Khz + boost volume and channel 1 to reset it back
For context my virtual board is maxed out
For some reference, there is known information about how they achieve the tone:
Matt would use a modded orange 120 that would give it more headroom Along with using the boss distortion feedbacker 2
With matching orange cabs
And sometimes they would use a Mesa rectifier as well
However, re-creating this in helix is kind of challenging me because half of the gear mentioned is not even in the helix platform
So I was wondering how you would go about re-creating this tone in helix seeing as half the gear isn’t in helix
Any suggestions or opinions would be appreciated
I have an HX Stomp with a ToneX and ToneX One as well as a hacked MS70CDR and half a dozen or so dirt pedals and a Superego + on the modulation end... my question is my HX Stomp is only 6 months old and lm feeling like I made a mistake. I use the ToneX for all my amp modeling, ToneX One for its variety or overdrives and rats and fuzzes...the MS70CDR for its choruses mainly and my stomp for the delay and reverbs. Im thinking I sould just trade someone withan Effects in like new condition and use it in place of the Stomp while letting the ToneX do my amp modeling in to my Headrush FRFR112. Any thoughts on which i should go with and why ??
I love my tube amps but right now the only time I get to play is when my sons is sleeping and the tube amps are just too loud so I’m using the emulated out headphone port and it’s just not cutting it.
I play metal so I’d really only be interested in the modeling, I don’t need a bunch of effects. A mesa boogie and a Jcm800 and some EQ is all I really need.
I can use headphones but I wouldn’t mind a very quite set of monitors that can be as quite as a tv or phone volume, don’t know if that’s possible.
I don’t play live or record. What should I get?
Hi, I just can't decide between the two as the laney goes for £400 and the headrush goes for £300. Is one significantly better at dealing with low tunings because I mostly use G standard. Thanks for any input.
Hey Guys, I'm really new to the Helix. I've got a Rack Version and now I have two questions. The First one is, the input Signal before any effects or Something is Always Red, which Brings me to my second question, is there anywhere an Option for Input leveling or Something. Thanks Guys
Hey Guys!
Been trying to nail down this tone for years on my Helix, but have never quite nailed it, but this guy really has got really close to the kind of glassy tone of the original.
As the guitar is more to the fore here than in the studio version, I want to try to maybe use this tone as a template, but my tweaking skills are non existent.
Does anyone have a sense of what the signal chain (and possible settings) would be here, particularly as the drums kicking around the 45 second mark?
I know that John Squire used a tubescreamer, a Ibanez chorus (I coincidentally have one of these - the helix doesn’t have a model for it) and a fuzz face, as well as a wee bit of analogue delay so in theory I should have all of the tools.
Im trying to save a midi cc assignment as part of a favorite for a wah pedal. I set the assignment up and i save the wah as a favorite but when i reinstatiate the wah from the favs list, the midi (or even automation knob assignment) i set up doesnt get recalled but everything else seems to. Is this possible to do ?
Returning the Nano Cortex because the phone UI is poo amongst other reasons. I have a Spark 40 and the UI is idiot proof but the sound is lacking.
I use an HX Effects with my amp and that’s fairly easy so I’m thinking I’ll just stick with the Line 6 world.
So, can I move my presets or am I in tweak mode for a week or two? At worst I suppose I could just manually copy things.
Is it possible to turn the “amp” off, making it an HX Effects with just stomp boxes?
What I want: a small box with a mess of amps for couch fun while also having practical use when playing for real. I don’t need/want presets that use up the whole brain. Idiot proof. A couple buttons to switch between an amp or three and the rest of the buttons work like individual pedals.
So, full on helix, LT, Stomp, etc.. what’s the best fit?
Title is the general idea. Without being too long winded. I’m a professional bassist that works with a lot of different artists at different degrees of success and magnitude across many genres. I have a lot of different gear to accommodate for that, however as I get older (and lazier) many people have said that I should look into getting a helix. Well I DID, and it’s good and intuitive to use at a basic level; however I have seen that I am not educated enough to program this thing to degree I need it to be with all the different settings. As such, knowing there are all sorts of tech geniuses and tone aficionados in here, I am asking you the people with Reddit to help me build my helix presets. Attached I have a small list of various groups I play in and the covers or similar songs they do to give an idea of the sounds I need, but in general I need
Not listed in the spread sheet but also need a lot of 5) a fretless sound, often musicals especially will call fretless sound, if I can not use a fretless to not worry about intonation that would be nice.
Some questions you may ask… 1) yes I have gone to custom tone and other resources, which is why I am now here, because those have not met my needs. 2) what gear are you using otherwise? I am using a Helix floor. I have a HUGE variety of gear I use, but I’m endorsed by Ibanez, so I usually play on their sound gear basses (my 2600 is my primary), although I do own a fender p bass and a sire v10. Sometimes I’m running into an amp, sometimes I run straight into front of house. Even the amps change because I often don’t have the luxury of bringing amps all over town, to different towns, or to other states. 3) As a professional in the music world, I believe everything of value should be recognized with money. As such, I am more than willing to pay for this service if done well! I see that a lot of companies will offer packs for money, and I see this the same way. If you are interested and really demand payment for it, Dm me and I’m happy to discuss it!
Hey all, I’ve been trying to get a tone from a band that’s pretty small so I can’t find much on their gear. Was wondering if anyone would be willing to try and recreate the tone (Helix LT) for some $$ or just any tips would be appreciated.
I’m really just searching for their heavy tone that comes in around 1:04
Hey everyone,
So here’s the deal. Back in February 2020, after researching like crazy, I decided to order an FRFR speaker. It came down to the Atomic CLR and a Xitone Wedge by Mick. The CLR was sold out everywhere, and after reading all these glowing posts about Mick and his Xitone builds, I figured that was the way to go. So, I ordered a custom Xitone wedge, built in the US and shipped to Switzerland, and paid over $1,000 upfront.
Problem is, I never got it. No speaker, no refund, not even a partial. I was patient – it was right at the start of COVID, and he kept telling me parts were delayed. I understood that, so I waited. But months turned into years. Every time I reached out, there was some new reason: missing parts, sick family members, financial trouble. By the time I realized this might go south, I’d already lost my PayPal protection, so I was hoping for the best, trusting his reputation.
Now here we are, nearly five years later. I haven’t heard anything back from him in ages. I know some of you got your units, so I’m wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience or if there’s any way I could still do something about this, even from Europe. I’d appreciate any advice – or just to know I’m not the only one in this spot.
Thanks for reading.
Howdy hey! Maybe you all are faster than the line6 help desk… Shortly after the update earlier this year both control center and Hx edit stopped recognizing/connecting to my Hx effects. I’ve tried the following: Each of the 4 usb ports on my mini mac (within the minimum requirements across the board) Different usb cables, including a brand new “premium” usb cable. I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled everything. I’ve installed earlier versions. I’ve factory reset the Hx effects so many times that might be all it knows how to do anymore /s.
My band has been using the helix and the poly capo has been working great for us. Though one problem has been feedback. Especially on our 7 strings. Regardless of the pickups, the 7s howl. We tune to A# and use the poly capo to do A and B tunings. We’ve tried various gates, compression and eq. Nothing seems to get rid of that washy poly capo feedback on high gain.
My setup guitar - helix (no modeling) - 6505 input.
Any help or advice will be appreciated.
I really like the yurt rock sampled drum loops, and have seen them working nicely in looper pedals like the ditto. As I understand it you load the drum sample into the pedal, and then it will automatically loop based on that sample (with the correct ‘start’/loop point synced with the drum loop), and you can layer up your guitar over this. Is there a way to do this in helix? Or is it best to use an external pedal? Thanks.
I bought a used Helix Floor yesterday. It is in perfect shape, but the toe switch on the exp pedal is a little unreliable. I can't feel an actual switch there when I run my hand under the pedal. The pedal itself is set up extremely stiff, so I'm wondering if that is the culprit.
So I just bought a line six helix lt brand new from Sweetwater and one of my high gain presets uses the regular noise gate. Sometimes after I cut off the sound (usually after muting a palm muted chord) there’s a little bit of noise/buzz that happens before the gate kicks in. It’s happened even when I’m not plugged into my pc through usb. Is it likely a problem with my guitar cable? Or even the pair of headphones I’m playing through? Any possible reasons/solutions helps!
I have an admittedly old laptop and need a recording program that I can use to quickly put rough song ideas onto with basic pre recorded drum tracks and the ability to overdub etc. I used to use iPad version of GarageBand with an irig guitar interface and it worked well so just looking for something similar and easy to use. Thanks in advance.
Can anyone help me get close to the bass sound on this song?

Any help is appreciated
Are there any resources or communities for building custom-programmed (homebrew) modules for the HX line? It would be really cool if we could implement our own DSP logic.
I'm using my HX Effects to use my expression pedal as an always-on volume, but if I wanna use a wah instead, is there a way I can switch the volume off and the wah on with just a single button press? I know it's possible on the full Helix with snapshots, but can I do this in the single pedal mode? And I'm already using both ins on the expression already - I have one to the HX Effects and one to a Pitch Fork. The closest I've found is either a Y or A/B split, but even then, I'm getting some noticable signal loss when it switches the side. I feel like there's something I'm missing, because this isn't too complicated, right?
Anyone heard any rumours on when the next helix firmware update should be? The last one was in January, so I think this has been the longest gap in updates. Although I guess the cab upgrades were a huge one.
I'm having guitar buzz from the HX Stomp when I engage it. Goes away when I bypass it (same physical connections). The buzz seems to move around as I physically move the guitar around. I'm only using it to record with. Very simple signal path: Guitar > Left Input of Helix > JDI radial DI > Preamp.
I've tried changing the power strip, adding a power conditioner, using a different outlet, making sure every component is coming from the same outlet, adding a USB isolator, factory resetting the HX Stomp, removing the USB, trying different guitars, and swapping 1/4" cables. Seems like if the buzz goes away when the HX Stomp is bypassed, something's up with the unit.
Here's a sample:
HX Stomp analog bypass and then on
I'm also noticing the guitar sounds completely different when bypassed compared to when engaged even though nothing is loaded on the HX Stomp.. Is that correct?
Wondering what I'm supposed to do in this situation. Thanks!
My power cable broke and all I have is a Truetone 1spot 9v supply. Can I use this to power my HX stomp Xl? Assuming I need the 2.5 adapter from sweetwater
