Lmao health insurance costs.

Parents pay $55 monthly for their insurance through the state. They barely pay anything out of pocket.

I pay $300+ for insurance I rarely use. Paying $150 for smallest of issues.

What a garbage system.

Barback minimum wage in CT

I've been wondering what is the minimum wage for barbacks in the state of connecticut. There is a set wage for servers, a set wage for bartenders, but no set wage specifically for bar backs. Most places offer minimum wage by default, but I've recently encountered a place that is trying to pay $13 an hour plus tips, below minimum wage. Are restaurants able to set the bar back wage at any wage that they want? I'm sure somebody here is a little bit more of an expert at this.

I'm sure menu prices are maintaining someone's coke habit

Why did Elmer's Diner try to charge me 17.40 for 2 scrambled eggs with cheese, 2 pancakes and bacon.... These prices are insane

Eversource maintenance

Getting a lot of calls about maintenance happening in our area, after a letter showed up saying the power is going to be out on the 3rd from 4am to 4:30am. The first voicemail from Nov 28th says different, that the power is going out on Dec 3rd at 3pm to 3:30pm. Today there's a message that says it's being rescheduled from Dec 3 due to circumstances to Dec 3 3am-3:30am. Right after that message is another that states the maintenance scheduled for March 13th 2024 (?) is now on Dec 3 at 3am. That's the last so far.

Is this normal for eversource? It's not likely the end of the world, but in the middle of the night when it's going to be freezing out is a bit concerning, should anything go wrong or delay work once it starts. The slew of contradicting or confusing (March 13th?) messages doesn't help. I know it's not like you can set your watch by these kinds of things, but they seem all over the place here.

Coffee shop in Putnam/Pomfret area open on Mondays? Anything else to do for 90 minutes?

Short notice request: Today my wife and I are making a mid-morning call to a small business in a semi-rural area of Putnam near the Pomfret line. We’re gonna have have about 90 minutes to kill while our purchase is being assembled. Can anyone recommend a local coffee shop or something else we can do to amuse ourselves while we’re waiting? Today is a Monday, so some businesses are closed.

Fairfield Avenue Bridge in Norwalk set to reopen after fiery crash, months of construction

DOT originally thought it would take up to a year to replace the melted bridge, but they got it done in about seven months.

Need help identifying songs and artist on EP labeled "AJP - "Of Heroes" - 3/1/08"

I found this EP on a CD-R at Goodwill today, and I can't find anything about it or any of the songs on it online. I assume AJP is the artist and "Of Heroes" is the title of the EP, with March 1st, 2008 being the recording or copying date. However, I do not know who "AJP" is, nor the names of any of these songs. I don't know if these songs are demos or what, but I'd love to find out who made this album.

There is an artist in the Northeast US named AJP who might have been involved in the production of this album. However, I find this unlikely as the creation of this EP involved at least two singers, and his discography as far as what is online only goes back to 2020. But he has been contacted by myself already, so don't bother reaching out to him if you find any of his other profiles anywhere.

I uploaded the album to the Internet Archive in FLAC and a friend of mine uploaded it to YouTube.

Best Romantic Restaurants in CT?

Hi all, looking for recommendations on some good restaurants in CT. I know there are so many to choose from but I'd like something romantic for my girlfriend and I [F/M, 40s]. I'd like something with good vegetarian options. Pricing is less of a concern, more focused on food quality and dining experience together.

I'm thinking something along the lines of fireplace, cabin in the mountains/wooded area, candle-lit type of environment etc - something with a little privacy would be great. Bonus points for gothic decor but doesn't need to be fancy. Maybe it doesn't exist around here?

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.. I'm going to marry this one.
Thank you!

Restaurant Recs Needed: 5th Anniversary in March '25

Hello, All! My husband and I are celebrating our 5th anniversary in March (married on our porch a week after the world shut down in 2020 – it's a long story), and we want to go out for a lovely dinner. We live in Mystic and are quite familiar with the restaurants nearby, so we're looking for places a little farther afield ... up to an hour. I wouldn't say that price isn't a concern but it's not top of mind. Quality of food is primary, ambiance, charming and / or romantic closely follow suit. We want something special, and while I can read "best of" lists, I thought I'd reach out here to see what you folks think.

(For reference, restaurants we've been to in our area include: Ocean House, Weekapaug Inn, Shipwright's Daughter, Oyster Club ... you get the idea.)

Any ideas? All are welcome. Thanks very much!

Which towns still have constitution oaks?

After the state constitutional convention in 1901, delegates from every town then in existence were given oak seedlings to plant in their town to commemorate the occasion. In 1902 there were 168 trees, but in 2002 it was down to 74. It's surely less today.

Do we know which towns still have their constitution oaks? I've read that Canton, Stamford, and Litchfield still have them.

Hartford Connecticut Cups?

I came across and purchased these two cool glasses with matching styles that have the Old State House and Mark Twain’s House etched into them. I’m curious, does anyone know if these glasses were like a set of Hartford or Connecticut historical sites? Would love to collect them entirely if they’re a series, or at least the Hartford ones as a resident and fan of the area.

I believe the glasses are quite old as the scenery behind the Old State House has what appear to be old now replaced structures. Also don’t worry they’re purely decorative for me, way too cool to risk breaking from using, never mind the fact that if they’re old they might contain lead.

CT traffic court- phones/video allowed?

Are you allowed to bring phones and/or portable monitors into traffic court (in Connecticut so plz dont delete again @mods) when meeting with the prosecutor? I have video I would like to be able to show showing the intersection where I was ticketed doesn't have long enough of a yellow light to clear the intersection before it turns red, and would like to potentially show that to the prosecutor. I'm going to try calling the CIB tomorrow to ask but hoping someone here can provide some insight too.

Shelton restaurant recommendations?

Realizing living in Milford area that we’ve tried a lot of places in all neighboring/nearby towns except Shelton.

Where we have been is Addeo’s (great pizza), Baingan (tried a few times, not a fan—much prefer Coromandel for local Indian), and Red Lotus (solid sushi). And a few casual eats places, but looking more for sit down options, or a place with good drinks.

Update: Just moved into new CT rental and there’s mold on the HVAC vents. Landlord now wants me out. Help

See previous post.

I informed the landlord and they are now freaking out saying they don’t want to accept the liability. They are implying they would rather us leave as our health is important. I understand the health part but we’re not having any emergent symptoms. There hasn’t even been an inspection or quote to fix from a professional yet since it’s Sunday. They offered to give us our security deposit back in order to move but that doesn’t really count…we would have gotten that back anyways.

I’m taking this as a big red flag and don’t know what to do or say. My lease clearly states that I need to report any issues with the apartment and that they need to maintain the dwelling. I tried asking them to waive the rent for this month but they avoided answering and focused on how we should leave and that the money does not matter.

Should I avoid speaking to them and contact a lawyer first or the health department first thing Monday morning? Or remind them of the lease? Don’t want this to turn hostile.

Idk this whole thing feels off like they want to re-rent it out to someone else who won’t complain.
