Connecticut Film - Film Festival Finalist.

Hi,

I am a second grade teacher in Connecticut and this past Spring/Summer I filmed a owl documentary here in Connecticut. I was lucky enough to be in the local papers and on WFSB CH. 3 to share my story. I just found out that my film is now a finalist in the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival.

I'm hoping Connecticut can show some love and check out the film. If you love nature and especially owls, I think you'll love it. I followed a family of barred owls for 100 straight days and captures some amazing stuff. My goal is to reach 1000 subscribers on my channel so please consider subscribing and I hope you love the documentary . WISH ME LUCK!

Riding into Manhattan from CT?

Hi there!

My partner and I are planning a trip to NYC in November and are looking at Airbnbs right now. Our last NYC trip, we drove down to New Jersey from New Hampshire to take a bus into Manhattan. It worked well, but are wondering if we could find an Airbnb somewhere in Connecticut so that we could cut down our drive time from New Hampshire. Is there a town/city that we should try to look for Airbnbs that are convenient to take the Metro North into Manhattan?

Thanks in advance!!

Heyo I’m moving to ct next week

Hi I’ve lived in mass all my life and I’m wondering how different ct is in comparison how do I get medicaid? And what are some good cosmetic dentist offices , eye clinics, and pediatricians are there any places that help with furniture such as beds, frames, and dressers? And any places for lgbtq people who are looking for fun things to do or just a place to hang out?

How much are you paying every month for EV charging at home?

At 8.8 cents per kilowatt hour, I’m paying $42 (482 kWh) a month before transmission fees, delivery fees, and the public surcharge. Seems closer to $70 with the extra fees

In UI territory as an FYI

Changes to Nutmeg FCU and Smart-E Loans?

Anyone familiar with any recent changes to Smart-E loan programs, most specifically with Nutmeg FCU. Had an odd conversation with one of the folks on the phone after I applied for a loan for solar.

They mentioned that they no longer do 20 year loans unless you are spending more than 50k. The strange thing here is, if you read what GreenBank has documented, SmartE loans only go UP to 50k.

Seems strange because even the solar contractors are confused by this messaging.

Decent southern food

I live in Waterbury and I don’t mind traveling an hour or so for good food, especially on a date night. My wife is from Louisiana and I’m from Florida (basically southern GA). We moved last year, so you can imagine it’s been kinda difficult finding those types of places. I know they aren’t common, but they’ve gotta be out there.

The food here is good when it comes to Italian and diners, but we miss southern fare - cornmeal fried catfish, stove top cheese grits, brisket, greens, you get the idea. Granted, we do make our own sweet tea and buttermilk ranch. Also if anyone has Chinese reccs.

I’ve been to Highland Garden, Hoodoo BBQ (they don’t put smoked ham in the greens - sacrilege!), E’s Fish & Chips, and American Soul Food Kitchen.

TIA!

New Food Bazaar on Fairfield Ave

I work in that area and used to go to that Stop & Shop but I’ve never been to the other Food Bazaar on the other end of Bridgeport off exit 5 on route 8/25. Is it like Stop & Shop/Shop Rite or more like an Aldi’s sort of place?

Need some help picking seats for the Lil Wayne concert at the Mohegan Sun Arena as I've never been. Would section 110/111 be too far from the stage? Should I go for the section 18 instead? It's about $50 higher for section 18

Thanks in advance!

How have things changed in CT in the last 10-20 years?

I'm curious to hear people's thoughts on how CT has changed in the last 10-20 years, big or small, good and bad. I'm planning on moving back in the near future after moving out west 20+ years ago. I've seen a lot of towns and cities out west go through a ton of change in that time. How has the Land of Steady Habits evolved?

Winter seems a lot milder than it used to be. A lot more breweries. But all the restaurants that were around in my hometown 20 years ago are still there today.

Best careers in the state with solid pay?

I am currently active duty Navy, but will be getting out in roughly a year. I'm stationed in San Diego, but my wife and I will be returning to Connecticut where all of our family and friends are. I am very self motivated, have a great attitude and work ethic and would call myself a fast learner. I have an associates degree in science of general studies(I understand that doesn't get me too far) and most of my work experience is in the electrical field, I completed 3 and a half years of my apprenticeship and unfortunately got laid off due to covid and joined the navy. Other than that I have 4 years of Naval service, unfortunately I'm going down the path of medical separation due to back problems. I do intend to use my GI bill to go back to school, more than likely will major in finance. But before I get my degree, I will need employment and benefits. Can anyone recommend any suggestions? Are there any veterans in here that have had to do the same as me that can give me solid recommendations? Anything helps, I greatly appreciate it

*sigh* Fairfield League of Women Voters cancels house, senate debate after no Republicans agree to attend

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan nonprofit promoting civic engagement, was set to host a debate between the candidates running for the state house and senate seats that represent parts of town at Fairfield University's Barone Campus Center Oct. 7. Locals would have posed questions to candidates in the four races in Fairfield's General Assembly delegation, but a league member said none of the four Republican candidates committed to attend by the deadline to do so.
