Moving to Hartford

Hi everyone! Just wanted to get some insight regarding housing in the Hartford area. Moving to Hartford, from out-of-state this fall. Will be working at Hartford Hospital, which I heard was not the best of areas. Young male looking for a 1bd/1ba (open to studio and loft styles as well). I've heard many people talk about West Hartford, but I have struggled to find reasonable places in the area. Budget, preferably, is around $1,500/month. Ive viewed online several lofts/apartments in the downtown area that don't look too bad. Any tips on these places? 1) Front Street Lofts; 2) Capewell Lofts; 3) 777 Main; 4) Hartford 21. In addition, Ive seen a few places in Manchester but was wondering how the commute is from Manchester to Hartford Hospital and how is it during the Winter months? Thanks for the help!

Being Evicted? Need a place near NYC

I'm possibly being evicted? I haven't been served but there's continual problems and screaming from the landlord. I turn my heat off, cuz it's too hot and open a window, he screams that I'm wasting his heat. When I point out that my heat is off, he screams he doesn't care. My husband fell at 2am, one time, and he called to scream at us about the time. He tried to push his way into my apartment today and demand I show him rooms (I was in pjs without pants), and I refused, and he said he would come back when my husband was home. But I know he needs to give us 24hours notice to come up. He yelled that he is sick of coming home to this (his wife screaming about something, because hi, his son keeps ODing, and there is lots of issues, but they blame it on us, ie. the toilet that doesn't flush keeps running all day, sorry I'm home all day so I use it? I've told him about a dripping faucet and he's waved it off and ignored us, etc). So I want to leave ASAP anyway. I don't know when he's going to serve us, but I wanted to ask if anyone had seen any good postings? We're currently in CT, but close by NY. Apologies if I posted in the wrong subreddit, I'm just really anxious/all over the place.

Looking for somewhere I can find a new roommate!

I need someone to move into my apartment with me located in Windsor CT, and I was wondering if there were any websites/Facebook groups etc. to find roommates?? It’s only for a short term as my roommate is moving out mid-lease. I posted this question on r/connecticut too.

I know this subreddit hasn’t seen many posts lately but I thought I’d give it a shot! PM for details if you’d be interested anyway or if you can help me out! It’s a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment in a great location.

Thank you!

Planning on moving to CT to be closer to work

I've been working in Bridgeport and commuting from New York for the past couple of years, living at home trying to save money. It's time for me to move out now though and I'm looking for some suggestions. Im looking to buy a house or a townhouse that is within biking distance of my office. Im well aware that Bridgeport is not the best area, but I know there are areas of Bridgeport that are more desirable then others. For instance I have heard good things about Black Rock. My price range is about 250k.

Am I kidding myself in thinking that I can find a decent place in Bridgeport? Should I be thinking more about Trumbull or Fairfield? Although even the areas in Fairfield that are on the Bridgeport border don't seem that great.

I'm in my mid 20s and would like to live in a place that has things to do in the area and maybe some sort of night life. Or id like to at least be near a place that has easy access to things to do like near a train station or a place that is conducive to walking.

Can someone give me a rundown on heating costs?

Hi everyone,

I'm moving to the Hartford region this coming fall.

I grew up in a non-snowing part of the US so I'm unfamiliar with what to expect in terms of cost for heating utilities.

I am looking at 1-2 bedroom units in approximately the 1000 sq foot range. Ranging from mutli-family homes to apartments.

Can someone please help me break down the expected cost of heating by:

  1. Oil heating
  2. Electric heating
  3. Gas heating

Thank you.

Cheapest place to live near Wilton

I don't care about schools or crime rates or unemployment. Just cheap, and maybe with a doggy day care nearby.

Summer Intern coming to Stamford, Need housing advice!

What's up!

I am a college student who is going to be interning in Stamford over the summer and I need to find suitable housing. From the research i've done ive learned that Stamford is a rather wealthy area with their being limited options for temporary housing. That being said, I am willing to commute 30-45 minutes by train or bus into stamford over the summer, so I would appreciate any suggestions on how I could find housing. I don't anticipate having a car over the summer, seeing as I've heard that public transportation in the area is alright.

Any help you could provide would be awesome!

Moving to Bridgeport, unfamiliar with any of CT

Hey, so I'm moving to Bridgeport in a few weeks, and I'm absolutely clueless. Right now I'll be staying like, right around the corner from St. Vincent Hospital. Any commuting that I planned on doing was going to be by bicycle. How bad of an idea is that? What are areas that I should avoid?

Moving from the UK to Riverside, CT (Sept 16)

Hi! So, on the 10th of October, I will be moving from England to CT to work for a year as an Au Pair. Apparently, there are lots of other AP's in the area, but I'd like to get an idea of some things to do! The family I will be living with have only just moved to Riverside from NYC so they don't know much about the area. I'd love to make some friends before I come over so if you live near to Riverside HMU!

Moving to Connecticut for a job in Norwalk. Should I live in the North End or Black Rock Section of Bridgeport?

*** To increase my responses, I also asked this in the r/Connecticut/ section. Hope that is okay, if not I will delete this one**

Hi Everyone,

So I just got a new job and I need to move ASAP. Ideally in a few weeks. I currently live in Massachusetts so I am somewhat close. The job is located in Norwalk and I was thinking about living in the North End or Black Rock section of Bridgeport but wanted to ask the advice from people that actually live there.

I really do not want to rent, I am not very wealthy by any means and do not have money to just throw down for a cash deal but to me renting makes no sense. I would rather build equity, pay interest to a bank and own my property after a few years compared to throwing money out for renting. Having said that, I am really looking to just buy to make the move quick, after a few years with the company and after I get settled, I will move to another, nicer area (or I plan to anyway) and just rent out what I am planning to buy now. So again, for now, I am just looking to buy something quick in a relatively safe area. I picked the North End and Black Rock because they seem like the most affordable areas, I think I would be able to scrap together the cash and get either a personal loan or a mortgage to cover the rest. I would prefer to not spend more than $150,000 and from what I see so far, I should not have any problem with this. I saw a large apartment building in the North End, (the Inwood I think was the name) which looked nice, it was gated and had a 24 hour doorman.

I am definitely not limited to these two areas either. If anyone has any other ideas of places that I should look into please let me know! I do not care about night life, or having anything to do on the weekends or anything like that. I only care about buying something that is in a safe area and does not have a horrible commute.

Thank you so much everyone! I really appreciate it!

Potential relocation - need insight on places to live.

Throwaway - current colleagues know my main account...

I soon may be moving to CT for a new job around the Westport area. I'm writing to see what place(s) would be a great fit for me given the following nuggets of information.

  • Happy to tolerate a 30ish minute commute.

  • I'm in my mid-20s, male, single.

  • While I enjoy going to bars, coffee shops, etc., I'm not crazy about dives.

  • I enjoy the outdoors and fitness.

  • I value being within proximity of similarly-aged working professionals.

  • Nice restaurants are a plus.

  • Not crazy about suburbia.

  • I enjoy nice scenic views and this will be a consideration with the flat/house that I rent.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Box rental for move from Brooklyn

We're potentially moving to the Hartford area at the end of the summer, and looking for a box rental company (i.e. http://juggleboxmoving.com/) that services both areas so we could take delivery in BK and have them picked up in CT. We're thinking it'll be easier, cheaper, and "green"-er as well. Any ideas?

Moving to CT

I just graduated college my salary will be just shy of 70K. I will be working in Wilton CT and am comfortable driving up to 45 min to and from work. What are the best areas for me to live where A) there will be others my age (low 20's) B) there will be things to do (bars, restaurants and recreational activities) and C) Apartment living. I think the max I would want to pay for rent would be $1200 monthly. I will also probably be living on my own in a 1 bedroom apartment.

Anything helps reddit. Thank you.

Just moved to Stamford from Bay Area, CA. Any advice on registering my car?

Hi All,

So I've been here for a few weeks and I haven't yet had a chance to make it out to the DMV - the hours are a little difficult to work with. But i'm wondering what's the time frame I need to register my car with CT by, what documents do I need, etc. Basically everything from square one. I've tried looking, but to little avail.

Thanks! Chris

What town should a 22-year-old "hipster" move to in Fairfield County?

I have been in and out of the country for a few years now, and recently got a job in Norwalk. Top priorities are good cinemas (with foreign releases, and the occasional vintage flick), good independent bookstores, and good cafés/coffeeshops. Ideally, the town would also be walkable or have a very good public transportation system. Would love to do things like take furniture-building classes and be part of some kind of arts scene.

Is this even a doable thing? Should I just move to New York to an apartment near a MetroNorth station (the commute to Norwalk would be a bit less than an hour)? The only reason I hesitate is that I will probably have long hours and not be able to fully enjoy city life with such a commute.

Moving to CT for a new job - looking for an apt near New Haven

I'll be moving to CT to work at Yale, so I'm looking for an apt to rent nearby but I don't know much about the area. What are some suggestions on places to rent for a studio or 1-bedroom? My main concerns are:

price - hoping to keep it under $1000/mo

safety

parking - I do have a car and am willing to commute 30 min away.

I'm not overly concerned about things to do or the nightlife; those are pluses but I expect to be consumed with my work.

Realtor & Mortgage Broker recommendation for Waterbury & surrounding areas (from the happy new homeowner)

After a really rough 2 months, we've closed on our house in Meriden. According to our attorney (27 years experience) and our mortgage broker (17 years experience) they have never experienced such a "nasty" sale. The selling agent had a vested interest in the house; she was part owner with an investor, and helped flip it with her husband's business. This made the selling agent take everything way too personally, and lash out.

House came in appraised too low and that caused the nasty re-negotiations. Our agent had to deal with the selling agent's rude attitude, yelling, and sense of entitlement (our mortgage broker had to deal with the selling agent, too, because she was unprofessional). Our agent was a damn gem. The mortgage brokers worked their butts off to get our CHFA loan to go through in record time, and explained everything to us properly. I really feel that both went above and beyond. Our agent is super nice, patient and GENUINE.

Agent is Jennifer Barrett: https://www.coldwellbanker.com/agents/Jennifer-Barrett-06770

Mortgage Broker is Amity Mortgage: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Amity-Mortgage-LLC/167929813220265

Their offices are located in Naugatuck, but Jennifer found us a house in Meriden and was willing to look all over the surrounding area. This is our first home and both explained everything to us (multiple times), took countless calls and remained friendly and helpful the whole time.
