/r/connecticutkayakers
A place for all of us CT kayakers and small boat enthusiasts to share photos, videos, great locations and stories of our travels in the state.
Have at it guys. Lets keep this fun. Invite all non-redditors as well. This could end up being a great community as well as a sweet redditor meetup outlet.

Any kayakers/hikers/mountain bikers in the Plainfield-Putnam region of CT?
Hello kayak people of Connecticut, I am going to be staying in Guilford for a few days and am looking for good paddling spots. Nothing too crazy, I’d say my skill level is intermediate freshwater and my vessel is an AE advanced frame with drop stitch floor. Thank you!
Looking to get my first two kayaks for myself and girlfriend for the summer. Was hoping to get some advice on what to purchase!
I just put a roof rack on my GMC Terrain and was hoping I could get some recs for a good kayak rack for the top or any other suggestions on easiest way to travel with them.

I just moved to Clinton and I'm thinking about buying a kayak. I know nothing about them other than I've rented a few over the years and now want one. Looking for suggestions on what to buy and where to buy it.
I'm planning to be in the area in October, and would love to do a river paddle. Looking for a buddy.
I'm new to CT and thought a great way to see pretty, tranquil scenery is kayaking lakes and rivers with my gf. We're not experienced kayakers.
How do you know what lakes you're allowed to kayak? Is it as simple as 'only the lakes that have boat launches?' If that's true, it limits the number of lakes a lot.
Just curious. Thanks in advance.
Hi I just moved to CT state from Washington. I used to be a white water rafting guide. I love the river. I don't have much experience with 9inch + boats for ocean kayaking but Id love some friendly suggestions to help me figure out a good body of water. Sadly I had to sell most of my large gear including the kayak. I fit whatever items I could in the car and came to CT. So Id love to meet fellow kayakers. Im a 25 year old female looking for some adventure buddies. Love backpacking also. Connect with me.
I'm fairly new to CT, so still figuring out what the rules are here. Does anyone know if inflatable kayaks are permitted at Mansfield Hollow? I'm anxious to hit the water, and thought an inflatable might be a good option since it is easy to transport and store. Any advice? Thanks!
Did a sunset paddle last night on the lake I just moved to. Loving being able to just drag my kayak out and go.
Firstly, hey! I just kayaked for the first time this weekend (Rented at Black Hall Outfitters, paddled out to the pavilion and back) and I had a blast. So much of a blast that I immediately started looking to buy my own. The little stretch of the river was cool, and the ocean was fun, but it just got really bland after a while. I'm looking for some places that are almost jungle-ish..I know it's Connecticut, places like this probably doesn't exist. I'm just picturing an Indian Jones scene and how cool it would be..something to look at the entire way down a river.
What are some of your favorite places to go, scenery-wise?
Thanks!
So many to choose from! I've got to say my favorite is definitely Whalebone Cove. Salmon River, Lieutenant River, Hamburg Cove and Selden Creek are excellent to.
I just noticed this reddit. It's getting me excited to go kayaking, 2 more weeks of school then I'll be back beside the great tidal river.
I'll be coming home to the greater Hartford area this summer for the first time in a long time and I want to appreciate some water! (living in the desert will do that to you...)
So where can I start? Where is it safe, allowed and preferably isolated? I'll be getting a couple kayaks from some old neighbors and I can't wait!
Figured from now until June will be enough time to accumulate some responses on this sub haha
Hi All,
We live in Norwalk, and are storing a friend's kayak for the forseeable future. My wife wants to get out on the water, but we don't have any sort of racking system for our car. Anyone have suggestions for DIY or low-cost systems to transport the 'yak? Also, is anyone selling a racking system that would work with a Honda Civic?
Thanks! MK
Hello,
New to the website, and new to sea kayaking, but I've recently purchased a used Valley Nordkapp and have been learning to roll. If anyone is in the area and would like to practice or just paddle around please let me know. Available most week nights and weekends. Thx.
My husband prefers to sit on the bank and fish while I kayak. I also like to fish while kayaking. Any good places you can think of for this? We live in Rockville but don't mind a 30-45min drive if it's a nice spot.
I am yet to join an event only because they seem so rigid.

I just bought enough glowsticks to choke a raver for this thing. I'm usually the sweeper boat so I make sure to pick up any left behind after the event. Was a good time last year - we also collect donations for the food shelf and have a boyscout building a bog bridge in one of our parks collecting donations.
This is a FREE to the public event. We usually get going around seven after signups.
