NEWS FLASH: Important Information Regarding Voter Polling Location Postcards

Hi it’s Carl Weinberg from District 20 on the Stamford Board of Representatives. I was out today knocking on doors for Nick Simmons, Democratic candidate for the State Senate, and Jason Bennett, Democratic candidate for the State House of Representatives. While meeting voters in District 20, I learned that there was a printing error regarding voting locations on some of the postcards sent out by the City’s Registrars of Voters. I’ve since learned that the Registrar of Voters office is aware of the printing error.

The side of the postcard with your name and address has your correct polling location listed. Please disregard the polling location that is listed on the side of the postcard with the City of Stamford seal.

The Registrars of Voters are in the process of troubleshooting this issue. If you want to verify and check your polling location, you can do so by going to www.stamfordct.gov/registrar-of-voter/find-your-voting-location.

EARLY VOTING: 2024 is the first year for early voting in CT. In Stamford, early voting will take place on the 4th floor of the Government Center, 888 Washington Boulevard. Any CT registered voter may vote early.

The dates for early voting are Monday October 21st – Sunday November 3rd. Early voting hours are 10 AM – 6 PM. However, on Tuesday October 29th and Thursday October 31st, the early voting hours are 8 AM – 8 PM.

There is same-day voter registration on all the early voting dates.

ABSENTEE BALLOT: If you need an absentee ballot, you can apply for it online by going to stamfordct.gov/registrar-of-voters and clicking on Absentee Ballot Portal. (A CT driver’s license is required.) You can also contact the Town Clerk’s office at townclerk@stamfordct.gov or call 203-977-5280 to request an application, or visit the Town Clerk’s office at the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Boulevard.

After filling out and signing the absentee application, you’ll need to return it in one of the following three ways:

  1. Place it in a drop box at the Government Center parking garage or at the Harry Bennett Library next to the outdoor book drop (115 Vine Road, across from Turn of River Middle School). Your absentee ballot will be mailed to you.
  2. Hand it in at the Town Clerk’s Office in the Government Center, Ground Floor, Monday-Friday from 8 AM to 3:30 PM. The Town Clerk will hand you your absentee ballot, and you’re welcome to fill it out and turn it in while you’re there.
  3. Mail it to Town Clerk, 888 Washington Boulevard, Stamford CT 06901.

Once the Town Clerk receives your application (except in #2 above), they will send you an absentee ballot. You can return it in either of the drop boxes or mail it back to the Town Clerk’s office at the address above. The Town Clerk MUST RECEIVE your absentee ballot no later than 8:00 PM on Election Day, November 5th.

Just got my yellow card in the mail

And it’s wrong. Please double check your district and polling location—especially if you haven’t voted recently or don’t vote regularly. Don’t assume the “Official Notice” you got in the mail is correct.

My card listed one polling location on the front and a different one on the back. Sigh.

Why are Stamford politics so heated? Because there’s a huge group of residents who want the middle of this diagram.

This is a fairly famous Venn diagram but someone just made this high-res/appropriately shaded variant.

Looking for a 1b1b or studio apartment/condo

Hello Everyone!

I understand this is a very very silly place to post looking but I figured why not use all the tools available to me, right? My fiance and I are looking to rent a 1 bed 1 bath or studio apartment/condo for around 2k or under. We both have stable jobs and good credit. We'd be looking preferably for a 12 or 18-month lease starting November 1st but we'd be open to leases starting before that as well.

Does anyone know of any openings around them? We've found a few places but nobody is getting back to us or, in the time to schedule a viewing, it gets rented out!

I bus Express to White Plains?

anyone taken it and know how to buy a ticket/how it works?

I usually take metro north or the Ct transit buses and am used to using apps for buying tickets but I can’t find online how to get a ticket for the I-Bus or if they take Apple Pay or only cash?

Car Registration question

I was reading about the Stanford car property tax. Me and my wife just moved here from New York. However, we are only here for 9 months as my wife is on a temporary rotation and then we are going back to NY for the summer. Do I need to register my car in CT for the 9 months that I’m here or is there some way around it since I’m not a permanent resident.

My car is parked in a public garage.

Recommendations for Temp Agency

Hey everyone,

Trying to help a family friend find work. Figured a good place to explore was working through a temp agency to try and get something quick, while working out a more permanent longer term plan.

Has anyone worked with any local agencies that were good? Or even specific recruiters? I know these places can be hit or miss, so hoping to get some firsthand referrals. Extra points if it's a place that can help with overnight gigs like data entry or weekend roles. Thanks in advance.

Train Station Parking Oct ‘24

I know there a ton of posts asking this BUT looking for more info on train parking specifically for NYC commute. I’m moving to Stamford this fall from the south and getting some context will make getting to the city less daunting!

Many of the posts are outdated so I was hoping someone could confirm my findings and maybe help the next person searching previous posts:)

  • There are a number of garages including the new Stamford garage.
  • Advice says to get there early, what is early? What time do the garages typically fill by on a weekday, T-W-TH?

  • What’s the daily cost?

  • Is the $8 a day garage cash only? Which garage is this?

  • Express trains are quicker but harder to find a seat.
  • is it acceptable to stand on the train like a subway, what’s the social norm?

  • do trains fill? Even if you have a ticket or will you not be able to buy a ticket for a full train?

  • is the MTA app the best way to purchase your daily ticket?

Is it normal that all the express trains appear to be stopping in Greenwich?

I just checked the MTA app because I'm going into the city tonight and I'm slightly confused. If I remember correctly, the express train used to only stop in Harlem, then go direct to Grand Central. Now it appears it's stopping in Greenwich, Harlem, then going to GCT.

Where to check blood pressure in Stamford

I need to get a blood pressure reading but don't need a full doctor appointment. Does anyone know if there are any pharmacies that have those machines or maybe an urgent care that wouldn't require a full appointment?

Has anyone ever successfully gotten a medical bill reduced by Stamford Hospital (for a doctors appt, not a hospital stay)

UPDATE — problem solved! I figured out today that I actually was covered in Oct 2022 under HUSKY. I posted the full update in a comment below but they basically discarded the bill! 🙏

I started getting texts from Stamford Hospital this summer saying “a new statement is available.” Got another one this week that my balance is past due. I haven’t had a stay at Stamford Hospital so it wasn’t obvious to me why I’d be getting a bill from them. It turns out I owe $1,006 for routine lab work administered by my gynecologist.

Today I called the hospital’s billing dept and spoke to someone. I had forgotten my gynecologist’s office is part of Stamford Hospital Medical Group. The date of service was in October 2022.

I called my insurance company and asked why this lab work wasn’t covered. It turns out I had a gap in coverage in October 2022. I’m shocked that I even went to a doctors appointment and said yes to lab work while I was uninsured; I must have been under the impression that my previous coverage hadn’t ended yet (I lost my job in August 2022 and had a month of COBRA).

So upon finding out that I was uninsured at that time, I’m now freaking out that I’ll have to pay the full $1,006 balance which would be a big financial burden for me at the moment. Any advice? Can I ask the billing dept to reduce the bill? Help :(

Late 20 year olds looking for activities/friends

I have lived in Stamford for a few years but haven’t been too social and am looking to change that. I did check the real great post listing groups but I’m male and hoping there might be groups that weren’t mentioned but are open to males as well.

I am personally a 30M but have a good friend and girlfriend around the same age also looking to make friends, ideally in an athletic but social setting.

If anyone is part of an organized or pick up soccer, ultimate frisbee, pickleball league that would be amazing. Open to other recommendations as well. I promise I will actually try and make friends - it seems like an unfortunate number of people say that on this sub and end up not being very friendly or some such nonsense but I grew up with a dad from the Midwest so I am borderline too friendly sometimes.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to maybe meeting some of you!

Job

Hi guys,

I’m moving with my wife to Stamford from upstate New York. We are immigrants from Europe (we have documents and we both have work authorization). Since we moved to the States six years ago we got stuck in one place (which we don’t like anymore) and now we want to start over here in Stamford.

Don’t get me wrong, we still got the jobs (didn’t get fired) but driving from Stamford to Upstate NY in a long term will be harsh for us.

Please don’t get rant on me but maybe someone know places that are hiring right now? Or maybe is it there a place where we could place an ad that we’re looking for a job?

Thank You in advance for any suggestions.

High Ridge Road

Is there any reason they’re not using Brantwood and Willard terrace as a detour for the High Ridge road work? It literally circumnavigates the small section of road being worked on and would prevent the mile south bound long back up, and the blocked intersection to enter the merit
