I'm looking for a BIFL winter coat that looks great (which to me means an emphasis on timeless styles, natural colors, and emphasis on organic materials like wool, down, waxed canvas, animal skins, etc.) but is also very warm and can stand some weather. Not necessarily something I'd go skiing or climb Mt. Everest in, but I want to be comfortable while caught in the sleet on a walk in the middle of a 20 degree winter day.
I don't want to just go to REI and get something that is highly functional but is super boring. I want some kind of rancher waxed canvas coat lined with alpaca fur, or something like that. Something that is a work of art, and that sends a surge of pleasure up my spine whenever I put it on.
Ideally under $1000 but that's flexible if I love it enough.
So I was at KOP mall yesterday and tried on a charcoal gray CG Wyndham parka yesterday and i was amazed at how well it fit and felt, and the way that it looked was perfect. I want a jacket EXACTLY like that one, but not in same price tag. Still willing to pay good money but 1300 is too much. I’ve been doing a ton of research online but can’t find anything quite as similar. Any suggestions?? TYIA!!!
Looking for durable, long-lasting work pants—are Carhartt the best, or is there something better?
I'd like to buy one of these for my home, is there a good brand or specific chair that anyone recommends? I'm looking for black or "espresso" (aka pretty much black). What wood and metals should I look for?
Was looking at Blundstone because I heard they were very comfortable, but is there something I could get in a similar price range that is also repairable? TIA
I'm getting married next year and want to get something cute and practical for each of my bridesmaids. They all have pretty different tastes and I definitely want to steer clear of anything that says "bridesmaid" or "MOH" on it. I feel like Stanley cups are a bit tired. Any ideas?
EDIT: As far as budget, I'm thinking betwen $50-$100? I'll also be getting them gifts (probably some nice jewlery) so I don't want to go completely ham.
We don't have a "theme" exactly, it'll be a Polish wedding--church wedding and then a banquet hall.
I really want to get one of these for my girlfriend and was thinking about wear felicity, but from my research it appears to be a scam/shitty product. Anyone have suggestions for similar products around that price point that are of good quality?
I'm finally replacing the silk underwear that I literally inherited from my mother over 15 years ago (Duofold), and I'd like to get a marino set.
What brands are we trusting now, in 2024? I know it's a terrible time to buy new, with so many companies dealing with higher prices by cheapening their products.
Edit: I will also take your favorites for a wool/silk blend!
Hello, I wonder if anyone have any experience with customising their Billingham bag, I mean patches, pins custom embroidery. I enjoy the design of this bag but also want to make it mine. Would it cause issue with warranty? Also is their heavy duty fibernite material would even be good for those kind of things?
Need a good quality headset for making calls through a CRM. Should have a good quality mic and headphones and feel comfortable on my head. Hoping for a durable one that will last a while.
I opened my box of Christmas things and everything was covered in mould 😫🤮
I washed and bleached and did what I could, but most everything was complete garbage. Luckily anything that was glass and high quality (basically anything we cared about) was completely fine. Being just glass, mould didn't really attach and anything that got on was easy to clean.
However, our Christmas tree will be pretty bare now that I threw away everything else.
I'm looking to buy a whole set of classic round Christmas tree ornaments - in all glass.
Any recommendations?
I live where it snows a lot. You would think I wouldve found a good boot brand by now, but no.
I need recommendations for really good winter boots. I am looking for something waterproof (or that I can waterproof), ideally has an inner liner/insulated/keep my feet warm, and is tall (ish) and also fits a wider calf. Currently, I wear a pair of combat boots that stop about mid shin. I love them, they have held up well to the salt/snow, the main downside is I have to layer with multiple socks so my feet dont get cold. And that doesnt help all the time. I have another pair of boots, but they stop right at the ankles, and unfortunately, where I live, we can get lake effect snow and the snow can build up easily over my ankles.
We just got hit by that big lake effect snow storm thats hitting OH, NY, PA, area and I would really like to find a good pair of boots that I know will last with all the salt, etc. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated! Bonus points if they have a combat boot look to them
i see a lot of gloves that are claimed to be screen compatible but what about a laptop track pad? i couldn't really find a better subreddit to ask this in so i figured this was the best one but let me know what you think or if there is a better sub reddit for this question
Hi all!
I'm sure this is asked all the time, but I am looking for some reasonably priced recommendations for luggage. My future husband and I will be traveling to Italy for our honeymoon next September, and are looking for luggage to add to our registry. While I appreciate brands like Briggs & Riley, we can't drop almost $900 on one bag, nor will our family members purchase for us.
It is my first time on a plane, as well as going abroad, but I know that checked bags tend to go through hell and back. We are going for almost 2 weeks, so I figure probably a checked bag is best. (I'm an overpacker as it is, but really trying to only keep it to one bag!) Currently, I have a hard shell Wrangler set that my parents got me for Christmas last year, and it has been through two cruises/thrown around and has held up, but I don't trust it on an international flight.
I also know there is a lot of cobblestone, and don't want to look like the idiot American tourist flailing around with a piece of luggage lol, but that just might be the case anyway 😂
Any reasonably priced recommendation would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all in advance.
EDIT: For clarity’s sake I just wanted to add that we will be flying to Rome with our luggage! From the train station, we will be heading to our Airbnb (5 min walk) and leaving our luggage there. (Probably will just have a backpack of some sort! If anyone has recommendations on those I’ll take them too!) and then we will be going to the cruise port via taxi and going on a cruise, which is where our luggage will stay. So we won’t be traveling with it that much.
I need a humidifier for my dry room, but there are too many options. I read not to get an ultrasonic one, so my choices are steam or evaporative. Which type is recommended? Which humidifier can I get for less than $80 that is easy to maintain? Noise isn't an issue since I don't mind white noise.
Which of these two brands makes better quality jeans?
I am looking to purchase the Melissa Button Frye boots, probably second hand or through Ebay. I attempted to look in my area for a location to go in person and try the boots on but there aren't any in my area/size. With that being said, I am an 8.5 in women's shoes, would this translate to an 8.5 in Frye as well or should I size up? I read they may (?) stretch over time, so if I purchased gently used or new boots, I am concerned a 9 might be too big. Thoughts?
I have 3 choices so far:
Adidas UltraBoost 1.0
Nike Journey Run
Adidas Adistar 3
Open to any other suggestions, I need to be stylish but still comfortable.
I’m looking for canvas tote bag recommendations! I recently noticed some stylish bags on the streets but haven't had the chance to ask where they got them. I need a reliable shop that has more options for the designs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
[https://a.co/d/0PpXKq9](Here is an example of one) just because I’m having trouble describing it verbally.
I have a disability and I’d like to use this for groceries as well as hauling my work to/from art shows and just generally be my go-to tool for moving things.
Any recommendations for a good one that will last?
Thanks!
I’ve used waxed canvas bags for years now but this is my first shirt jacket (Bighorn shirt jacket from Flint and Tinder). I have some dislikes about it but overall I’m a fan. But it’s my first time wearing waxed canvas and I had some questions:
How long until it breaks in? I plan on wearing it daily since it’s in the 60s where I am, but I take it off when I’m inside.
It creases very easily and seems to attract lint. Will this go away once I’ve worked it in and the wax dissipates?
Appreciate any feedback!
Helllo all! My bean bag sadly got a rip in it and I’m struggling to find a decent priced replacement cover only. I spent $100 on this beanbag so attempting to not spend more than what I bought it for. Thank you :)
I have a small humidifier going on my dresser + a portable one (that can fit a cup holder) on my nightstand, yet my reader is still saying the air in my bedroom is 27-29% and dry. I've run these things for 2 days and it bumps up to 30-31% briefly. I've ordered a heavy duty humidifier that should cover the entire house, but it won't be here until the end of the year or start of the year.
I'm assuming the humidifiers I have aren't good? Otherwise surely the humidity would go up? Any recs for a good standard sized bedroom humidifier that is pretty easy to clean? Thank you!
My 3yr old pair of skullcandy earbuds have finally worn out and started to die (movement cuts sound in the right ear) - and with skullcandy slowly dropping production of their (cheap) wired earbuds, i was wondering if any of y'all had recommendations.
I'm not very picky i just prefer to not spend 100+ on something I've never tried, and for more context I've been using the skullcandy inked (and other ones like it) since i was a kid. I'm not really a fan of "balanced" or open headphones, i prefer to be fully immersed and unable to hear noises around me.
I'm thinking about getting a new chair for reading and listening to music, and I came across the IKEA POÄNG for just £80 brand new. After asking about its longevity on this subreddit, I'm amazed by all the positive comments praising this chair. The only drawbacks I can think of are its unconventional frame and the fact that the chair is a bit too reclined for reading.
I'd love to know if there are any alternatives that are comfortable, long-lasting, and better suited for reading, all for under £150. If anyone has any recommendations, please feel free to share them in the comments. Your advice is greatly appreciated. :-)
I want some sleek black Chelsea boots. I have some taupe Dr Martens and some brown Blundstones, but they’re both a little clunky. I want some classic black Chelsea boots with a sleeker sole/profile and preferably a slightly taller shaft (6-7”) to wear with cropped pants. I like the AllSaints Hallie, but the sole is a little clunkier than I’d like
