Welcome to r/BuyCanadian!
Come on in, share your favourite hidden gems, your favourite major Canadian chains, your favourite local goodies. Help your fellow Canadians find Canadian replacements for their imported goods, and learn something new yourself.
Be aware of what you're buying. Be aware of where it comes from and who makes it.
We've created this space to share Canadian alternatives to products made elsewhere, products we use every day. Your food and drink, your beers and wines, your furniture, your bicycles--we're here to help make that push to buy local and Canadian products a little bit easier.
We would like to point out that while this subreddit is called BuyCanadian, that doesn't mean you need to stop buying products imported from other nations. A global understanding and trade partnerships with other nations are very important to Canada's position on the world stage, and our reputation and relationship with other nations.

I was looking for a weighted blanket made by a Canadian company, and specifically made IN Canada, and kept finding Silk and Snow as a recommendation.
This post is in regards to this product: https://www.silkandsnow.com/en-ca/hand-knitted-weighted-blanket/
After contacting their support, unfortunately their most well known blanket is made in China.
The Silk & Snow Natural Hand-Knitted Weighted Blanket was launched in 2022, it is a breathable and cooling weighted blanket crafted for comfort and sustainability.
It is made in China with a 100% natural cotton shell and interior fill, its weight is derived from twisted fabric rather than sand or plastic beads, ensuring evenly distributed pressure without synthetic materials. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Certified and carbon neutral, it’s a safe, eco-friendly choice for relaxation.
Just an FYI for anyone considering this... guess my search continues.
As an aside, I think there really needs to be a strong distinction between business that are Canadian, or operate in Canada, but that sell foreign made products. Too many people share posts here of Canadian business hocking foreign made items... no matter if it's Made in China, Europe, USA, etc...
Hi everyone. Thought this sub would like this:
The entrepreneur is part of the Aamjiwnaang community which is right next door to my hometown of Sarnia, Ontario. The company has a very interesting back story and it was also covered in our local newspaper.
(Will link in comments.. on mobile and not sure if it linked properly)
Often, regional retailers in Canada get lost because they don't do the big media buy that bombards you with their brand at every turn. CLÉMENT sells clothes, shoes, furniture, decor, baby and kids gear, maternity. It's not as comprehensive as The Bay or Canadian Tire, but it's still a very good range.
I just found them as part of my shopping expeditions, and I'm going to look there first in those categories from now on.
They ship most things within Canada for free with a minimum order ($100), so if you like their products, try out their registry for your wedding/birthday/shindig!
From their website:
Founded in Québec in 1939, CLÉMENT operates an online store as well as 30 stores across the province of Québec, with the help of more than 500 committed employees.
Aware of our social duties, we strive to create local jobs by expanding our presence within the province of Québec and by selling as many canadian brands as we can. In addition to our responsible business practices, we are also involved in our communities by participating in several fundraising events of charitable organizations such as the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation and Les Enfants d'Amour de madame Brissette.
Since 1939, optimism and determination is driving our family business and will continue to do so for years to come. We aim to constantly innovate and stay up-to-date with the latest trends to maintain and improve customer satisfaction. Nevertheless, our core values remain to provide wonderful customer service, continue to be family-focused, and dedicate ourselves to sell quality products at good prices. Those are the values that will remain part of all corporate decisions.
There are always the baby clothing and accessory brands you hear about because they're in major retailers, so I was so thrilled to discover this Quebec-based company.
It SEEMS that all or most of their products are made in Canada. I was checking out sleep sacks and a pop-up said they will ship in January as they are made in-demand by local seamstress.
Their prices are very comparable and downright reasonable with their black friday sale on for the weekend. If you're still shopping, check them out: https://perlimpinpin.com

To the Mods: hope this is considered within the spirit of this sub. I really thought my last post was within the guideline of sharing a Canadian retailer (Stokes), so not sure why it got removed. Let me know!
For those looking for Canadian options, the christmas shopping guide in today's Globe and Mail quite helpfully tagged a bunch of options with maple leaves for the canadian ones. Not sure how tight their criteria are for that but it's definitely a good starting point.
I have been shopping with SSENSE for many years as it is the best option for quality designer clothes available to Canadians. I have never had any issues and was a good customer with frequent purchases and frequent returns (it's clothing, so not everything works out). This summer I ordered several pairs of leather sandals. One pair arrived in a box that was completely beaten up and covered in scuff marks, the paper inside was crumpled-- I did not see any damage to the sandals, however, so I tried them on on my rug, immediately knew they didn't fit, and put them back in the box. There was less than 2 hours between picking up the shoes and sending them back. A month later while on vacation I get an email from SSENSE saying the sandals are damaged and that I will be charged the full amount and sandals will be shipped back to me. I contacted them and explained the situation- they asked if I had taken photos of the sandals, which obviously I hadn't. Then they said that I would be charged because I caused the damage and they told me that the shoes had not been previously returned, case closed and they refused to let me speak to a manager. I opened a dispute with my CC but that accomplished nothing. BUYER BEWARE, they can pin any amount of damage on you if they want. I was lucky that the sandals were only $300.
If there were any things you found not worthy of a post, you can put there here.
Hello Everyone,
Hope you are all enjoying your day today.
Now that the Holiday Season is in full swing I would love to see if people can recommend Canadian bookstores (that are not Amazon or Indigo Chapters).
I would like to ideally help homegrown Canadian Bookstores and Indie Bookstores who could use the support and patronage.
Edit: Please do share the links to the stores! If not, I'll try my best to find them and add as a reply to your comments. :)
Hi all. I'm looking for a new quality sectional. I'm willing to spend up to $5000 which I know isn't a huge amount compared to what is out there, but I'm still feeling like it should be able to get me something decent. I'm conflicted because from everything I read, a nice truly Canadian made sectional from a company like Brentwood Classics or Palliser is apparently going to run me over $8000, however all the direct to consumer companies like Cozey, Article, etc. seem to have great Marketing and a great initial product, but I read review after review how the furniture simply doesn't hold up after a few years of use.
I will admit that being able to buy online and get it delivered is a HUGE plus for me. I'm very busy with work and kids, and am comfortable making large purchases on something without touching and feeling the product first. Almost our entire renovation finishing materials were purchased online, even the flooring and tile, and we're thrilled with the results. To be honest I do also enjoy the digital experience of websites like Cozey and Article. Is there an online website that sells actually Canadian made furniture that is known to be better than others (ex: Article? Cozey? Sundays?) Or are these all Chinese furniture that is simply assembled in Canada and shipped out in boxes? What about Costco? If these aren't great quality long-term, is there an option out there that sells furniture from the likes of Palliser, Brentwood, etc. where I don't have to go through a middle-man retailer that is going to scrape 30% margins for making the sale?
Thanks all. Open to any suggestions at all.
Hi, was just checking their site and they seem to have a pretty serious sale on; particularly on their urban collection. My favorite/most comfortable pair of boots is their Huron (6 years old and ready for resole). Hoping the Chelsea boots from the urban collection are decent.
I am looking to buy a beautiful leather, well priced, handbag. I've been following the Canadian brand Wearshop, they have only 5 star Google reviews, been mentioned in places like Vogue and seem to have sustainable practises. Also, their bags are made by local artisans which is really cool. Their price point is $300-400, so I wanted to know if anyone bought from them before I make the plunge. Ideally I would like to make the purchase today and take advantage of their Black Friday sales...
Hi there
A long time I ago I made this , which is now woefully out of date and mothballed.
I've fallen off in the world of MiC garments in the last couple of years. Most of my wardrobe remains MiC because I stick with a few companies that are reliable, but the pandemic was very unkind to me in terms of athletic wear, and I know that the stuff I currently have will eventually wear out.
I am wondering where people recommend getting some of the following:
Clothes appropriate for running, like mid layers and half-zips. I have Stanfields for thermal underwear, but I will eventually need more long-sleeves and sweater-type things that are synthetic and appropriate for heavy physical activity (trail running). The same goes for good running shorts and tights. With Reigning Champ now basically a mall brand and all of its production shifted to China (and their entire performance running line gone like a fever dream) I lost a huge staple for my workout wear.
Waterproof/windproof shells. Do not recommend Taiga please. With Westcomb gone, my favourite jacket (Helios) is now gone forever. Does anyone have experience with smaller brands?
Thanks in advance!
For exactly the same quality (good or bad), how much more would you be willing to pay for a product on the basis that it is made in Canada or your province?
10%? 25%?
There are many things that aren’t produced in Canada because they can’t be competitively produced here. However, I’ve always been willing to pay at least 20% more, if not more than this, simply on the basis that my dollar will circulate longer in the local economy.
I struggle with the cold in Toronto, and my regular gloves just don’t cut it—they actually make my fingers feel colder, almost like a freezer after a while. It feels like my body doesn’t generate enough heat to keep them warm.
I’ve heard great things about “garbage mitts” in terms of warmth, but I’m not a fan of how they look.
Does anyone have recommendations for gloves or mittens that offer similar performance but are also stylish enough for a daily bus commute?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks! Specifically film cameras!
Much to my surprise my guy and I have got into hats in the last year. Looking for a Canadian retailer (and ideally manufacturer) of hat boxes for everyday storage and/or travel. The usual foreign retailers are all over any web search I do, so if you have a recommendation please advise.
Does anybody have any recommendations for men’s jeans (ideally work jeans) that are manufactured in Canada? As in, actually made in Canada.
I have no interest in supporting Canadian owned companies, like Du/er or Silver, who are offshoring their manufacturing.
Thanks for any help.
Edit: Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions!
For work, I have decided to try out the made in Canada jeans from Big Bill. Maybe try their logger jeans for outdoor work.
The next time that I need a pair of causal/dressier jeans I’m going to try out Naked & Famous.
I wade through the neglected corners of Canadian online retailers during Black Friday madness to find this gem. 🌟 Worth it, especially if someone here sees this and it makes their day.
Comments about Buckwheat pillows?
Looking for a good one, preferably made in Canada. Queen Size.
Side and back sleeper. Have tried several types of memory foam pillows but invariably find them too hard. If I take out the foam, still hard but at worst wake up on flattened part without any support.
So willing to try Buckwheat. Looked on Amazon but ones I might have considered are either King Size or so small they are smaller than regular pillows. Too many reviews suggest Queen size is the best way to go and that King size are just too large so the husks often flatten in the middle where your head/neck rests.
So looking for Queen size and a brand that others can recommend. Really don't want to try Chinese made ones on Amazon unless excellent.

Canadian Pricing
I’m wondering if Trumps intent of raising tariffs in the US going to affect Canadian computer pricing? I imagine it will. Even if it’s just sympathy gouging by Canadian suppliers. Does our pc component stock arrive via the US? Or ship directly from overseas?
I’m hoping to build a new gaming rig but was waiting for the Nvidia RTX 5090’s to drop. Should I be pre-purchasing components I’ll need next year …now?? Thoughts? Predictions?
EDIT/UPDATE: We are located in BC (for context) and we cancelled and got our refund.
We and many other people have been seriously screwed over by Cozey with the Neptune Preorder.
We, and many others, ordered our Neptunes in June, told delivery would be 1st week Sept. It didn't arrive, and we heard nothing from Cozey re: updates, explainations, etc. We emailed them, and only then did they inform us it wouldn't arrive until October.
October came & went: NOTHING and NO communication from them. We emailed again, got told it would arrive early November: more lies. We reached out AGAIN, told arrival between Nov.22 (today lol, not happening) - Dec 3rd.
We've been making monthly payments on this order since June. They've been taking our money while giving us nothing in return and no guarantees. It gets worse...
Today: found multiple posts about other "Neptune" customers receiving only SOME of their order, with missing essential parts like legs, and NO explanations or assurances from Cozey about if/when the other parts would arrive. Reports of people only having half a couch, with missing parts, ottomans, etc.
We are cancelling our order today because: I contacted Cozey demanding an explanation, they told me:
Considering all the above, they should be offering all their customers cancellations and refunds immediately otherwise this is tantamount to fraud. Instead, they have been avoiding customers unless you hassle them first.
I am filing official complaints with consumer protection bodies and also considering bringing this to the media. Canadians are suffering rn with affordability and this is unacceptable! people should be warned!
Anyone know of any good quality one-piece adult snowsuit brands? I have come across 2 scam sites already so I'm over googling anything haha. I'm am no longer interested in the jacket / snowpant combo.
Anyone know of a Canadian company that makes decent looking leather backpacks that will fit a 15” laptop (screen size 15.6”). I’d rather keep my money in Canada and not buy from the US/Mexico. My wife has decided she wants one for Christmas. Thanks!
Hi all - I'm interested in buying the Candace and Basil Stanton Sofa (Custom) in the 90x40inch version. The custom couches here are made in Canada. Does anyone have any experience with this brand, or with this specific sofa? I'm looking for comfort and longevity, without shelling out an arm and a leg.
This is my first apartment and this would be a big investment for me, so I want to be well informed and I appreciate any help!
