Stipends for PhD in Statistics

Any PhD student in Statistics can share their stipend rate?

I have looked through the department website and graduate appointment rates but there is no info on specific amount. I'm interested in the program but trying to figure out if the stipend is livable. Thanks!

UIC for business

Is UIC a good business school, out of state tuition is way cheaper than DePaul and I was wondering how the business schools ranked against each other.

I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE taking CS 412 and CS 418

2 classes where you will learn a lot, easy to stay on track, good professors.

You’ll use a lot of this stuff when you work, plus a lot of the content overlaps.

I highly encourage you guys to take these classes. You’ll learn so much and won’t even feel like you’re drowning in CS tech electives.

This is my last semester and these 2 classes have been easy, fun, and least stressful than the other 3 tech electives i took.

Does anyone know how we can get the old exam sheets except by asking for instructor? I really want some practice.

Is there a photo booth for professional profiles?

I moved here recently from the east coast after my bachelors. And my alma mater's career center had a self service photo booth to take profile pictures for things like Linkedin.

I was wondering if UIC has anything similar? How do you guys get a good professional profile pic?

I'm not really feeling the ones i took in college, and want to retake them.

Need Advice

I'm a political science major and a transfer junior. For the spring semester I'll be taking 5 classes. I was thinking of taking FRENCH 102, POLS 202, POLS 204, POLS 207, and POLS 210. Is it a good idea to take four 200 level POLS classes? Or should I swap a 200 level out for an elective? And just do FRENCH 102, POLS 202, POLS 204, POLS 207, and PUBH 100? Also can I take any elective I want? Cuz I've browsed through a few classes at the 100 level with no prerequisites that I'm interested in taking like SOC 100, LING 150, GEOG 100, EDPS 104, PHIL 102, etc

Looking to Rent

Looking to Rent Out a 3 Bedroom House for $1,500. $500 a bedroom.

Located next to public transport that goes downtown. Has a large forested yard filled with oak trees (fenced in for privacy and security), large basement with washer and dryer, kitchen, dining room, living room, hardwood floors, 2 bathrooms, garage and plenty of street parking (enough for around 8 cars).

I posted it on zillow for $2,400 and got like 60 responses the first two days but there were a lot of people who didnt even have incomes and I'm genuinely scared of renting it to someone who will end up squatting and damaging things so I'm willing to rent at break even to good tenants. I trust UIC students, since i went here and a lot of people are genuinely honest and good.

Why does CS 211 have it's own separate page on the UIC website?

https://cs211.class.uic.edu/

Idk I'm just curious cause I don't think I've seen it for any other classes, specifically for CS.

Thoughts on my schedule

Timing wise this is what imma have to do. I hate having classes in the afternoon and those one hour breaks are just a waste of time for me. But what about the courses I’m taking.

I won’t lie rn math 180,cs141, and cs151 are taking up a lot of my time. I am getting As and Bs in those courses tho. You guys think this is manageable. Also this is 15 credits, should I add an easy gen ed or would that be to much.

Is it rude/bad to ask the admission committee to speed things up?

I recently applied to a graduate program, my sponsor though requires the letter of admission by a specific deadline, and so far I’ve heard nothing from UIC but it’s been less than two weeks since I applied so it’s understandable

Can I ask them to speed things up or would this not reflect well on my application?

Private Student Loans

So, I applied for student loans for Fall semester, and the amount of loans I applied for went straight to my student balance. Although it had been disbursed and approved and the school received it, that whole amount went to my balance and it is something I have to pay and owe rather than it paying for my tuition. I don't think this is how loans work. Is there something I am supposed to do, or unaware of? Btw I am on cancellation status for financial aid, since i currently don't have up to a 2.0 gpa as of right now.

Taking IDS400 next semester

I’m planning on taking IDS400 next semester and the only time the class meets is 6:30-9. For anyone that has taken it, did you have to stay the full time or were you often released early? Also, how did attendance look in general? Taking it with Hassaan Khalid if that helps

Hairstylists in the area?

I live on campus and went home this weekend but had to unfortunately cancel my appointment with my stylist for a haircut. Any good female hair stylists in the area? Specifically good at cutting shoulder length and above?

UIC Vs. Iowa State Vs. UIUC

I'm a high school senior who wants to major in Urban Planning, and I'm trying to decide to go to Iowa State, UIC (University of Illinois at Chicago), and UIUC (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign). There are a lot of factors I'm considering, but obviously a big one is the quality of education for my major. What factors should I consider for going to your college (reposting this in the other 2 universities subreddits as well

Transfer course during summer?

Hi! I was hoping to transfer to UIC fall of next year. I am currently at a CC and it looks like there is a chance I may have to withdraw from a course and do it again next semester (it’s not going great oops) The downside is it’s a pre req for one other course that is part of the guaranteed transfer program for UIC. Do you guys think I will be able to still transfer in time if I do the other course during summer? I know some schools don’t accept summer before the semester you transfer credits. Is it something that will be frowned upon in admissions? My GPA is pretty solid so I’m hoping that kind of makes up for it.

Anyone else’s parents forced them to go UIC so they could stay home rant

junior pakistani girl feeling so disappointed about my experience. I moved to the U.S. in high school with controlling traditional pakistani parents. I worked my butt off to be a 4.0 student during HS and sacrificed so many things because I wanted to do well and go to the school of my dreams.

It is my third semester here at UIC and unsatisfied with my friendships, as everyone is settled in their high school circles or lives too far. Every time I try to organize a hang out it feels like I’m begging my friends cause it’s too much effort for them. Don’t get me wrong I love them and see them frequently at school, but if it’s not something at school or nearby, they never want to put the effort of doing something outside of school. Same for my club friends. They’re either just “club” or “school” friends but not FRIEND friends ifyk what i mean :(

Being a transfer student only made it harder since most of my original friends went to other schools, leaving me to start over.

What really rubs salt in the wound is that my brother was allowed to move out with financial support, but I’m not allowed to because 1) I’m a girl and 2) the youngest. On top of that, I can’t be even have the option to become independent due to my immigration status, I’m not authorized to work legally in the US or get OPT. I just feel so stuck and have honestly built so much resentment against my parents that I stick around all day at school can’t stand to be around them at home. Not that i have an option either cause my commute is 3hrs-ish long in total everytime I come out here (roundtrip). I just feel like I’m hating my life since the past few years but don’t really have any other options.

Thank you for reading my extremely long rant :’(

If I did a Late Drop Petition after 5PM, does it still count?

They never specified a time but I still did it on November 1st, the deadline.

UIC MATH 310

What was the average curve for this class. Like right now they say that it is a 87.5 for an A, 75.0 for a B, 62.5 for a C, and 50.0 for a D. In past semesters, what was considered an A?
