UIC Cap and Gown

Hey y'all, I was wondering for this semester's graduation commencement if the bookstore still has bachelor's cap and gowns for purchase? I didn't purchase one in time and I'm hoping the bookstore will have some but I don't know.

CS people PLEASE do better

Listenn I’m a CS student too, and honestly, some of the people in these classes really need to start taking better care of themselves. It’s like, how are you showing up to lecture looking like you haven’t left your room in days? I’ve seen some things that honestly haunt me. It’s like they forget they’re in public and not just chilling alone where no one can see them.

And don’t even get me started on how rare it is to find someone in CS who actually takes care of themselves and can hold a normal conversation. The difference is so noticeable when you do meet someone like that, and it makes you realize how uncommon it is. I’m sorry, I just had to rant about this!

In need of advice and help

So l am a first year student and I'm currently falling a course that is dropping my GPA and affecting my spot in the honors college and GPPA program, 1 really don't know what to do and to even think as I don't want to lose my spot. I don't know if I'll be put on probation or if I'll be dismissed from both programs due to that one "F". I am passing all my other classes, and I come to find out I'm failing this one class all of a sudden, and it's deeply affecting my GPA and spot in these programs, I desperately need some advice as my advisors are no help, like is there any way to drop the class or do anything about the situation in general?

Do single rooms cost more?

Next year fall I want a single dorm room since living with someone is not the most ideal to put it in polite terms. Are the single dorms first come first serve and do they cost more?

College giveaway ideas??

Hypothetically speaking, if an organization were to have a giveaway.. what would college students want in order to participate?🤔

Time to ask out your gym crush

With the end of the semester coming around, people’s schedule will change and so will the times they can go to the gym.

It’s time to sack up and ask them out (respectfully).

There’s a good chance you’ll NEVER see them again anyway. You miss all the shots you don’t take 🫡😤

Parking Tickets & Graduation

I have about $400 in UIC parking tickets and just want to know if they’ll withhold my degree if I don’t pay them (I graduate in the Spring). The parking office lady said they would a few months ago but the email they sent out the other day said the parking office doesn’t have a list of students who are graduating, so which one is it? I already pay for parking every semester and some of these tickets are from the East and West campus offices not communicating with each other and messing up my lots (one would say I could park there without a hangtag and the other said no, ended up getting a ticket) which I’ve been battling with them for a few months to drop. Just curious if I should pay it as I haven’t gotten a ticket from UIC in over a year or just hope for the best.

Question about transfer application.

Currently in my second year at community College. I have 40 credits completed, and by the time I graduate next semester. I'll have over 60.

Do I pick how many credits I currently have, or how many I will have? If I pick less than two years it only gives me the option to transfer as a sophomore.

Chem 101 Curve update ish??

Guys I genuinely don’t think Dr.Stecs class will be receiving any kind of curve this semester, she has yet to say anything about one and TAs also have not mentioned anything about a curve. Also before exam 4 I had asked her (Stec) about curving any exams and she said no no curve, and my logic is if there was a final grade curve she would’ve mentioned it when I asked.

If I am pursuing a Bio-Chem major, should I minor in MCS or CS?

Basically what the title says.

I am transferring in as a junior (Fall 2025!!!) but I don't mind staying an extra semester or 2 if I need to. I want to get a Biochemistry major to go to medical school, but I want to leave the leave open the possibility of getting into the bio-informatic or biotech fields through graduate school. Not just in case I don't get into medical school, but also because I'm genuinely interested in the biology-technology sector and might switch (maybe).

**Plus, I want to do research related to the field while I'm in school**

Has anyone here made this decision before? What do y'all think?

The UIC Political Scene Sucks

I attended yesterday's "What Now" discussion on UIC and Project 2025, and it feels like I'm losing my mind. While real problems were being discussed, the speakers (who I think were professors) seemed to be living in their own worlds, talking about "fascist" UIC lecturers, the "extremely far right" Democrats, and how we need to train campus security to fight back against federal police raids.

Good suggestions were made, like one about what we can do to protect student data, but they were alongside recommendations for stuff like "weeding out rich liberals" to see who's left wing and who's not.

Politics isn't meaningless. I've been seriously impacted by bad policies throughout my life and want to help change the world for the better, but it's going to be incredibly hard to do that if all of our political organizations are only interested in playing dress-up and calling each other Nazis.

Finally, whoever went to that discussion needs to take a shower, because that room stank. CS students deserve all the flak they get, but this was far worse then even they're capable of. Soap is sold at most grocery stores and it's not so expensive that you're unable to afford it. If you're having problems getting running water to your apartment then I will pay your bills so that I don't have to smell you again!

Applying for housing before committing

Hi! I've been admitted to UIC but haven't committed yet as I'm still waiting on other decisions. However, UIC is one of my top choices. So, I was wondering, is it possible to apply for housing without committing?

Thank you.

Where is my decision?!?!

I know I’m really impatient, but UIC has been my dream school since sophomore year, and I really want to get in. Everyone here has been getting their decisions and everything but I just have not gotten anything, so I am a bit stressed. Does anyone know in what order they check and give out decisions to applicants? I applied EA as an out of state student from california, on October 13th majoring in finance.

Any info on this helps!

Do I have to go to the placement tests in person?

I'm a HS senior and recently got accepted and have officially enrolled. Going through the checklist they sent me, it says I gotta take a placement test before June 30, but I don't know much else about them

Help with schedule

Is this a doable semester for my last semester? On Wednesday the UIC first year dialogue seminar starts 3/10-5/02 I’ve heard it’s a blow of class. 1 credit hour.

Then this summer taking Spanish and math at my CC to transfer over then I have to take a 3 hour class over summer at UIC. Does anyone have a recommendation for an easy 3 hour credit course over summer?

Stat 481 Kyunghee and Jing Wang Attendance

For those who've taken a class before with either professor, do they require attendance? Do any have recorded lectures as well? I was hoping that Professor Pajda would teach Stat 401 or 481, but I only saw these two along with Professor Yang (bad reviews).

Has anyone noticed a trend of infidelity among women (or maybe even everyone) at this school?

Does anyone else get the sense that people that attend this school are particularly treacherous in relationships? Speaking from personal experience, mostly, but does anyone else notice a lot of women at UIC are semi-openly cheating on their boyfriends (or vice versa)? Is that just what college is? Is this school in particular more promiscuous and loose with the morality? Genuinely, what is going on?

Student Portal Help

Just received an acceptance letter from UIC, got my student portal account setup. I've also filled up my fafsa a week ago

When do I get information about merit scholarships and/or fafsa money?

How do I find this information?? I'm on the "financial student status" page and I got the Duo thing set up but everytime I try and go in it says "you are not authorized to view this page" Is this because this information hasn't been sent yet???

How do I know if I've received money (merit)?

How bad is commons west?

I got accepted to UIC and I am checking out what dorms they have. I am thinking of going to commons west but I am wondering how thin the walls are as well how if it is clean and free from any roaches or mold issues. I am looking for a dorm that is worth the money. also If anyone has any suggestions on which dorm building to go to on a budget please let me know.🙏

I want to take STAT 381 next semester, who should I take? Hamed or Pajda-Le La O

There are slots open for Pajda-De La O. She has an amazing RMP, but it's during a class I signed up for but can remove. There are also slots open for Hamed whose slot fits perfect within my schedule, but he is extremely hit or miss on RMP. What are y'alls thoughts? I want your guy's opinions before I change my schedule

Edit: Sorry Pajda-De La O not Pajda-De La O TTvTT
Also context, CS major but switching to Data Science when I reach sophomore year.
