Hi! I've lived in Avondale for almost a decade and don't wanna leave when I go to move at the end of January, but it's getting tough out here and I'd love advice/offers. I have poor credit (<660) and no savings (I know it's not ideal but it is what it is, we all start somewhere) but recently started a salaried job and bring in ~3.5-4k a month. Usually I do neighborhood walks and call numbers on For Rent signs, but I haven't seen many around the area considering the time of year.
So I'm wondering if anyone has offers for/advice on finding studios or 1b's in Avondale that are in the ballpark of $1500 and would be accepting of my current financial situation?? I'm a teacher so it's stable money but my credit is just so ass because I'm reeling from college/pandemic.
Sorry if this is unclear, thanks for any help!
I'm moving to Chicago the first week of Feb 2025 and I need to find a place to live before I make that move. I currently live in Utah so I can't just hop over to look at units and neighborhoods very easily. I do plan to visit before I move but I'm hoping to have some tours lined up ahead of time. The trouble is I am having a difficult time getting help with scouting. I enlisted the help of a broker but she consistently tells me she'll call or email me and then does not do so. I then scheduled some virtual tours with apartment complexes on my own and then they flake. How do out-of-towners typically do long-distance scouting in Chicago?

Hi all! After waiting weeks for my aro unit to be approved, I finally am going to be moving in to Fulton market on Wednesday! I got lucky to apply the same day and find a unit that went on the market, an amazing studio. After reading all of the helpful information and tips people have provided on Reddit, I was more confident I would get approved.
Throughout my search, I found a couple of apartments that are available now that I won’t be considering due to me already have signed my lease, so I decided to share them with you all. I found these through looking through possibly 100+ apartment sites, (very time consuming but was finally worth it after being approved) Good luck to everyone!

Your roommates would be me (31M orthodontic resident), my fiancé (26M work-from-home professional), and our sleepy, lazy, super sweet, and well-trained Great Dane. While we certainly are focused busy-bodies, we also enjoy cooking, strive to have a clean and tidy living space, and are happy to socialize when time permits.

Hey guys,
Just got a dream job opportunity in Japan that I can’t turn down.
I’m looking for someone to take over my lease in January that ends in August. Rent is $850 a month, incredibly central location right off Taylor Street and next to the Pink and Blue lines.
I have two roommates I met on Facebook that I’ve become best friends with. We go to concerts, make music, watch anime, go to parties, and in general just have a a lot of fun. Surprisingly we’re all introverts but we make the effort to get out and enjoy the city!
I’ll share the listing from Marketplace for pics/further details: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1334220837959333/?mibextid=6ojiHh
Feel free to ask me any question!
Looking for a sublet for our 2 bed/ 2 bath Wrigleyville apartment! We’re only two blocks from Wrigley Field on Addison- close to the red line, walking distance to both Jewel and Whole Foods, and so close to the lake! We are looking for someone to move in around mid December, but there is flexibility with that. December rent will already be paid for. Our lease is up at the end of March and there will be the option to renew. We have loved this apartment and would definitely stay if we were staying in the city. We are planning to get the place professionally cleaned and put a fresh coat of paint on the walls prior to the next tenant taking over, so it’ll be good as new! We will also cover any sublet fees required by our leasing company. Rent is $2,495. I have the listing link for pictures for interested parties!

Hello :)
I'm currently considering X Chicago and have a few questions.
I've noticed that their Google reviews aren't great, and some seem concerning:
I couldn’t find much information about X Chicago beyond Google reviews. Many of the recent positive reviews seem obviously like they were written by bots, and most of the real reviews were very negative.
Quite a lot of questions but thank you for reading/answering :)
Considering moving to Chicago from LA and selling my car. Not sure what areas I should look at--I'm newly single mid 20's F. Interested in queer scene if possible but not a dealbreaker. I'm hoping to spend less than $2k on a one bedroom because I WFH and would like space for a desk area. I'll be spending a lot of time at home so I am ok with a high rise or more residential if it's more quiet. Could any kind soul help me narrow down some options I would realistically like?
Hi all I'm moving from Texas with my wife (both 29) and three cats. I'll be moving in the latter part of 2025 so maybe too early to look but we'd like to get an idea of what we can afford
Ideally we're looking for: -1 bed 1.5+ bathroom
This is all our "ideal" so we understand well have to compromise somewhere.
We've been looking into neighborhoods like Near North Side, Edgewater, Lincoln Park, Lincoln Square, North Center, and Hyde Park
We don't really drink so a "vibrant night life" isn't something we need but we are into food, sports, music, arts and the outdoors.
We've found most of our places through apartment locators (who were always free) and were wondering if those were a thing in Chicago?
Thanks in advance!
Can anyone offer some advice? I’ll be working up north in Abbott Park area but I would really like to live in the city. I know the commute will be long so I’m thinking of North neighborhoods like Ravenswood, Rogers Park, even Evanston maybe.
Anyone make that commute and can offer advice? Are there trains that take me all the way to Abbott Park? What can you all tell me about North Park?
Requirements:
Hi, this is actually for my friend but I'm trying to get some advice.
He has a car and intends to commute for work, however he really hates traffic. BUT, he works 10PM to 6:30AM. He's willing to commute 30min or so.
His primary concern is safety. (He'a reiterated this many times)
He also has 2 cats. He probably needs a parking space or at least dedicated parking for the apartment complex.
He would like a 1 bedroom, but "will take a studio if that's all they have." Doesn't care about in unit washer or dishwasher. His budget is around 1300.
Does anyone have any idea of neighborhoods that might work for him? Thanks in advance!
Hi everyone,
Recently took a job in the city (currently live in the western suburbs), and am looking to relocate March-April 2025.
Work is on the 600 block of North Wells Street, and would like to be a 20-30 minute walk/commute from work, at max. Have looked at Gold Coast, Old Town, West Loop, South Loop, but am open to any and all options.
I do currently have a car and would like to keep it as I travel often for work, so garage / parking spot would ideally be included in my budget range.
Anyone have any spots to recommend? Or is this a pipe dream and completely unrealistic?
TIA!
Do you think there is a better layout?
My big requirement is cleanliness. Pretty much every place I find has at least 1 bad review in that department.
I’m open to most areas except. Ideally, I don’t want to live more west than Humboldt park or near west side, not more north than Bridgeport. I honestly don’t want to live to far north more than Edgewater but I’m open to Roger’s Park if I have to. I am open to most places on the nw side though.
I have to commute downtown often so I’m interested in a place that is a >30 minute commute but it’s not a deal breaker.
I’m not completely anti-roommates or subletting but it’s not my first choice.
Am I being too unrealistic?
Apartment is huge 1 bedroom 1 bath First floor Priced at 1095 The rent price is incredible for the size It’s 1000ft or so.

Hi everyone!
I’m searching for a 1 or 1+ bedroom apartment in a quiet and safe neighborhood in Chicago. My budget is $1,700/month, and I’d like to be within a 25-minute drive to South Loop.
A key feature I’m looking for is an in-unit washer/dryer. If you know of any apartments or neighborhoods that fit these criteria, I’d love to hear your recommendations!
Thanks so much for your help!

Hello! I'm trying to find a female sublease opportunity near Lincoln Park/ West Loop/ Gold Coast/ Lake view. My budget is >900. Internship is from Jan-April/May
Hello, so I plan on moving to Chicago in a month and I'm trying to find a place with a short term lease so I can look at other places in-person.
I've tried looking on facebook marketplace and craigslist and there seem to be a few scammers. That puts me on edge since I don't want to potentially pay ahead of time and watch my money evaporate.
What's my best option for doing this?
I am looking at renting a unit in River Plaza- 405 N. Wabash next to trump towers. Its my first time living in the city and will be moving in with my fiance. What is everyones thoughts on the building/management group?
Thanks
I had made a post last week sharing my mold experience, but now I would like to warn others about this company as I do not want anyone else to have to experience what I have experienced. They’ve been completely unprofessional, dismissive, and manipulative throughout my time renting from them. I dealt with mold in my apartment, and instead of conducting a proper inspection to address the root cause, they blamed me for the issue and even cleaned it up and painted over it without my consent—ignoring my requests for an inspection.
Their communication was terrible; I had to repeatedly follow up to get any response. They used gaslighting tactics to deflect responsibility, claiming the issues were my fault, even though it’s clear the problems were structural. The whole process was disrespectful, stressful, and beyond frustrating.
If you’re considering renting from them, I’d strongly advise you to think twice. No one should have to deal with landlords who ignore tenant rights and fail to maintain a safe, habitable space.
I am considering moving to Chicago. Many colleagues have suggested Logan Square or Bucktown. I'm willing to work with an agent and take over a sublease, but the timing would be March 1 or April 1 (rather be prepared). I have a 12-lb emotional support dog who's well-behaved and potty trained.
My must have's:
Budget: I would like to be within $1,800 but can go as high as $2,000.
I may ditch my car since Chicago has awesome public transportation.
I'll be back in Chicago for Christmas to scope out some neighborhoods I'm considering, and I use to go to Chicago 2-3 times a year pre-COVID as my team was based out of Chicago.
I would even consider roommates. I'm 41M, recently separated, clean, respectful (no shoes in the house), easy going. In my free time, I love to do group fitness like Barry's, explore cities (I LOVE MUSEUMS), and my bed. I don't smoke and drink socially. I love volunteering and exploring the city. I'm also doing a NU grad program online, so moving to Chicago would allow me to do my last quarter in person. I also am an IU grad, despite being born and raised in LA, CA and would make it up frequently to Chicago for my "city vibes".
Feel free to DM me for more info or if you have any leads.
