Hey all, moving to the area for the first time next week and looking to find a swimming pool that 50M. Anyone know of one within 25 minute drive of Oak Lawn?
I’m looking for a yoga class for my 70-something mom in the near northwest suburbs (Glenview, Northbrook, Des Plaines and thereabouts). Would love to help her find a chill studio that’s less gym-ish and hip, and more laid back and comfortable. She mentioned having gone to a class previously that was super “cliquey” which was a bummer to hear. Any recommendations for a down to earth studio? Offerings specifically for seniors would be a bonus. Thanks in advance!
Hi guys..moving at the border of both states. Working in pleasant prairie. 30M here from SoCal (west coast)
Can you give me an idea for renting 1bedroom apartment and utilities costs in Bayview near Milwaukee, WI versus North Chicago Subarbs, IL near border. What's the vibe when it comes to walkability for shopping, restaurants, groceries? I have a car but still want to ask.. Would you recommend living in north suburbs of Chicago and commute to Pleasant Prairie? I think I can handle $1200-1500 in rent. How's the traffic on i94 and snow situation. I don't care about weed situation..I don't use any.
PS I was initially planning for kenosha but idk... it seems lil less busy for me..I want to keep my commute between 20-40min. and want to live in a bit more happening area, considering I'm moving here from west coast and used to night life and good restaurants/bars nearby.
Me and my aunt were driving in Elk Grove and we saw a ton of police cars on the road and we looked and saw a blue tarp covering a body, is there any info on this?
Hi,
Anyone have any recommendations for any bars, clubs, or anything similar around Glendale heights (maybe within 30 minutes)? My wife and I (both mid 20’s) go out to the city to see our friends there but staying the night isn’t always feasible so looking for something a bit closer to try out.
Bonus if there is a decent size Polish population who frequents these places but that doesn’t have to be a dealbreaker. (We are already familiar with Akcent and Terminal 5).
Thanks!!
Hey all, looking for a pretty specific restaurant recommendation and trying to do some planning ahead. My wife doesn't gravitate to meat and prefers vegetable and fruit (most specifically eggplant and avocado) and with her birthday coming up, I want to go to a nice place that does veggies in a quality and creative way. In terms of styles, she is an adventurous eater who loves Mexican and European cuisines.
The extra challenge is that I have Crohn's so I can't do a veggie-forward meal, so something that at least has some other options (quality is less important on those because I want her to have a good experience).
Any recommendations would be gratefully appreciated.
We are looking to sell our condo in the city, and move to the Glenview or Northbrook suburbs. Those burbs allow us to be close to family and have good schools.
Anyone have recommendations for realtors who are knowledgeable and have experience within those areas?
Edit: Just an fyi, we are looking to start a family. I am not a mom and I don’t use FB. Any recommendations would be appreciated!
Looking for a nice(r) spot to celebrate a 30th birthday with 6-8 people. Live in Glenview but would go to surrounding suburbs, just trying to avoid the city. Particularly interested in fresh / seasonal / farm-to-table restaurants. Caliber similar to Ema, Pomeroy, Foxtail on the Lake. Suggestions?
Anyone know of any Veteran's Day discounts/freebies in the northwest suburbs? I found a list of chains but it would be nice to find some local places, too. Thanks!
Edit to add - this is not for me. It's a nice way to recognize my partner's time in the military once a year. I didn't know about Superdawg but that sounds fun. Thanks!
Love holiday celebrations. Looking to attend as many as possible. When are lightings taking place in your burb? Could you share the name of your town & any extra info? Many thanks. Happy holidays.
Just saw ~10 police with an investigation over on Higgins near busse lake. Saw a man with a shirt and shorts laying dead on the ground. Any news?
curious as to who and why
My car has bad tie rods, what place between Dundee and Crystal lake has the best alignment people that can also replace tie rods?
I live in Des Plaines and was leaving work around 9PM, looking southeast-ish there was an extremely bright red light that streaked through the sky for a few moments (it was moving pretty quickly but not nearly as fast as a "shooting star") and then fizzled out.
It was definitely not aircraft lights, it was far too bright. I tried to look for any information about a meteor or a satellite falling back to earth but couldn't find anything.
Did anyone else see it?
It is a concert venue that an artist I know is performing at soon. Can anyone give me insight on their experiences there and specifically if VIP balcony level is worth upgrading to?
Got the whole neighborhood out around 95th and Rt 59
Just moved to Elmhurst from downtown, any good recs for a good place to get Detroit style pizza in the western burbs?
I'm a former Chicagoan, considering a move back to the area. My 13 year old son will be a freshman in high school next year. He is a trained musical theater performers (has attended Interlochen, performed professionally) and one of the factors of moving back is to provide him with the opportunity to be a part of an amazing performance arts program at a local (likely suburban) high school. We are open to living just about any where... I grew up in the Northern burbs. My wife is from the Western burbs. We have family all over the place. Looking for suggestions of top notch programs for my son. Thank you, in advance.
We're narrowed down to this area, and the requirements for housing aren't important (we've hired a realtor), but the requirements for neighborhood are far more...touchy?
I would like to be able to walk to water and a train station, and then there are certain things I need.
Do you know this area? Can you help me plan for the following:
A European or international grocer? (Imported flour from France, tea from Britain, cookies from Germany and Netherlands, beverages from Japan).
A bakery? (Good croissants, like real, not frozen, croissants. If I can also get a canelé that would be awesome.)
A game store (tabletop, because I like to buy the occasional Magic card and enjoy board games)?
Thanks! (And if there are smaller Reddits for some neighborhoods I'd love to hear about them.)
EDIT: It was pointed out this is huge, because my screen cap is rectangular. We're currently actually looking at places between Grayslake and Pistakee Highlands on that 134/12 corridor, and then on 83 between Grayslake and Antioch. I dream of water in my yard (or close) and public transit to the art museums and baseball games.
We are moving to the burbs and have a few towns that are top on my list but slim pickings for listings. Enter Downers Grove. It has always been on my list but not the top. Convince me (or not) that this is a great town to move to. Any places to avoid (near downtown)?
For context: Hoping to live near downtown (enjoy being near places to eat that are walkable) and we have a young toddler. Hoping to enjoy lots of parks, recreation programs, and may eventually need to utilize SPED services within the school district.
Hi! I have to go to Zion (Lake County) for work next week and my meeting is at 11. I expect it to go no later than noon (yes, I have to go in person, unfortunately). Is it realistic to think I could be back in Urbana by 5? I know what Google maps says, but I want the real answer, so I don't get my hopes up for nothing.
My brother was hit at Plainfield and Madison last night in Willowbrook around 6:35pm. Did anyone see this or have dash cam footage? I would not know if the Walgreens on the corner would have any footage or even share it if they did. Any help would be appreciated.
Looking to host a 20 year high school reunion in the northwest or west suburbs. Most places require you to pay and then attendees pay the host, but I'm looking for somewhere where people can pay upon arrival. I dont want to collect money from people, as I'd like everyone to pay the venue directly. In the city we have wristband deals for like $60 all you can drink + light apps. Looking for somewhere that can accommodate 150ish people and provide some sort of deal that way. Would love to support someones local bar or restaurant!
