I’m planning on heading into Evanston (I-90 -> Dempster is what I’m most worried about I think?) tomorrow ~430 pm from the Rockford area, so it would be an hour and a half drive on a good day. With all the celebrations, do I need to plan on delays? This is my first year driving during this, so I’m unsure. Thank you!
Hi, I am looking at Chicago suburbs that skew blue. I have read that Orland is now red.
Any Palos residents here? How does it look by you? At this point I’d almost go purple but I’m utterly exhausted of living in Indiana. For commuting I can’t go North or too far west.
Thank you.
The last time I went past Richards High School years ago I noticed the place was gone.
Can these be found here?
A newspaper from 9/8/24. Preferably Chicago Tribune, but any paper will do! Like a physical paper copy of one. Or if anyone knows of a way that I can get one or a better place to search for one. Thanks in advance (:
I'm looking for unique or themed restaurants in and around the Merrillville area. If there are any horror-related restaurants or spooky places nearby, that would also be an option. I'm trying to entertain some family that are traveling here soon and make some good memories that we will cherish for years to come.
Does anyone know of any stores in the burbs that carry fountain pens and inks? I don’t want to schlep downtown to Atlas, plus their hours aren’t great on the weekends.
I know Kinokuniya in AH has some, but they haven’t restocked their inks in ages.
Just moved yo the area and I am looking for comedy club located in the Northern Suburbs. Any recommendations?
Are there any good places to pick apples near or around Chicagoland?
Ja’Niyah McMichael is a 13 year old from Gary Indiana who went missing on August 11th 2024 around midnight. According to her mother she just took off out the door after a disagreement. Ja’Niyah is the victim of a sexual assault that is currently being investigated and may be 4-5 months pregnant. It is critical that she is found as she is likely in need of immediate emergency medical attention. She was spotted by a credible source in the 6900 block of S St. Lawrence Ave. and may be hiding in this area. If you see her please call 911 immediately.
This was the first place that ever served me alcohol. I was under age and at my Navy A School. Wild times here. The year was 2005.
Hey everyone, I'm a fresh college graduate and I'll be starting a new job in about a month and will be moving to Chicago. I don't know much about the area and was looking for an affordable studio or 1 bd apartment around ~$1800 a month. I want to be relatively close to the city, so I was looking around Uptown area, but am open to live in the suburbs as well. I may or may not have to commute to work which is located in Glenview. I just wanted to know which neighborhoods are relatively safe and would fit someone who recently graduated college (to socialize and meet new people) and how the commute would be if I had to go into work. Thanks!
Anyone know any hidden gems out there? I can't do bonchon anymore.
How does this place stay in business? This is not knock on the food or service. Service was good and the food is fine. But I’ve been there with my wife a couple times recently for dinner before seeing a movie, and it’s DEAD. Like two other tables besides us in the entire restaurant on a Friday night at 7pm. Do they do a lot of lunch business? Just curious if anyone has any insight.
Any butcher shops selling stock in the southwest or west suburbs. I’m in Frankfort and this area is lacking in butcher shops these days. (CP Meats is wonderful)
Hey everyone. My friends and I made a movie and scored a distribution deal. The film debuts on streaming services October 4th. We are doing a free premiere. See details below. The ticket is free, but the theater does require one food purchase item. Cast and crew will be on hand for Q&A
“Name The Demon” Chicago Premiere
Date: Thu, Sep 19 • 7:30 PM CDT
Hollywood Blvd Theater Location: 1001 75th Street #153, Woodridge, IL 60517
Has anyone had issues with setting up a new account with ComEd? Recently moved and set up service at our new address. We never got a bill, nothing in our online account. Called ComEd, they said there’s a billing glitch leaving our account as “pending,” affecting thousands of accounts, so we aren’t getting bills. Is this happening to anyone else?
While I’m glad I don’t have to pay them I don’t want to be stuck with a massive bill later when they figure it out.
Thanks!
We are seven months out from moving to Chicagoland area! Does the total package suburb exist?
Desires:
We are a sports family, so preferably schools with a variety of programs.
Must haves:
Some really great answers! I like! Please keep them coming. Side note: the downtown thing is definitely hilarious, but let’s not press to hard on it. More interested in elementary/middle school kids growing up together, playing sports together— a sense of community. That kind of thing.
I’m out in AH. Anything on the immediate area would be preferable as I don’t have any transportation besides walking. But down to hoof it if it’s something good.
I’m also pretty broke so anything cheap would be cool. Even if I walk around a fair and dont buy anything I’d be cool with that
Just trying to get out of this funk and need socializing. If there’s any groups or maybe an app for this thing you could suggest I’d be interested.
Hello! I am a soon to be single mother of young kiddos after learning that my husband has cheated on me. Fun times! We have been living in Kenilworth as he grew up there. It is a beautiful place, but I find it to be a little stifling. I’m looking for recommendations on a great suburb to raise my children that has excellent education, is safe for a single Mom and does not feel like I am living in Stepford Wives 🤣. Thank you in advance!
ETA: I work in the city.
I have a young dog who can be reactive to other dogs. He loves other dogs, and wants to play with all of them, so he can get reactive when he's on leash and can't go up to every dog he sees and say hi. He gets frustrated and may growl, so it looks like he hates other dogs, when he actually really wants to play with them. I'm looking for a trainer who can help work with us to overcome this reactivity. Does anyone have any recommendations?
For the record, he was always very dog oriented, even when I got him at 10 weeks old. I never allowed him to go greet most dogs on leash. I think I might have messed up though by doing puppy classes too early, which lead to the behavior being reinforced. He's great with other dogs when he's off leash, or if he's on leash and knows he'll be able to greet the other dog. It's only when he's not allowed to greet another dog on leash when there's a problem. He's also amazing with all people, including kids, and good with cats. Basically a perfect dog, except for the leash reactivity.
Anyone know of any tattoo shops having Friday the 13th flash sales?
I live in McHenry county. I am curious if anyone in a far suburb uses an antenna for local TV service? We are pretty far from Rockford and Chicago stations, so I wonder how signal strength and quality is. I have a TV in my living room and in my basement, so I would either need a whole-house solution or two separate antennas setup. Thanks!
Hey there! We finally decided to buy a house in Glen Ellyn, IL. Starting in January, I'll be attending UIC College of Dentistry most weekdays. I'd really appreciate any recommendations for commuting to UIC. I feel like driving every day would be pretty stressful. Thanks so much for your help!
Google Maps doesn't provide parking information for the Glen Ellyn Metra station, and I've heard that parking there isn't great. When traveling from the Metra, I need to go to Chicago OTC, and for UIC, I have to take the Pink line to Polk, which is still to the west of the OTC. Is there a way to optimize my route and get to the Polk Station without traveling to OTC? I was also thinking of driving to Cicero and directly catching the Pink line, I don't the downside of it.
Wait for Glen Ellyn's parking permit near Metra is around 8 years. How is the Daily pay and park situation there? Heard that there are parking permit lease options but couldn't find anything about it.
Yet to move, because closing is next month.
Boyfriend and I will be making a move further north when he starts with a union in the city, and we kinda want some ideas of places we could afford. We like the city but realize it’s expensive. We’re in Downers right now and from New Lenox. Also, what areas aren’t horrible to commute into the city from (I know it depends where but we don’t know where yet)?
We like older style homes and our budget will probably be at $450k or less. Mt Prospect and Arlington Heights have some gorgeous 3br homes that I’ve seen, and hopefully some good schools!
Are there any little nature spots to go on walks outside at, or some small shops or coffee/good breakfast nearby? We’re very active and don’t care for nightlife, so things to do during the day would be fine. I know Park Ridge and such are expensive, so I assume that’s out of our budget. Anything helps!
