Hi! Is anyone aware of any companies that have furnished one bedrooms for short term rentals in the Hyde Park area? Need a place till the quarter ends and figure I’d rather live by myself. Went through the fb groups but its mostly folks looking for roommates or lease takeovers. Any lead is appropriated!
Transfer credit eval process is absurd. 1 credit relevant to my major transferred from the >12 courses I had taken previously. No humanities credits transfer (and they just announced this after we already enrolled). I went from being on track to graduate in 3 years to not sure if I can graduate in 4. I'll probably have to throw away a major work opportunity I landed for this spring because I have to focus on getting my credits for courses I've already taken and gotten As in. The college I transferred from was a 4-year university also known for grade deflation, and the classes there are fairly rigorous, so it's not like they were subpar. Placement exam results come out after the registration period so you can't even register for your core major classes initially. Also, if you're seeking financial aid, they aren't need blind for transfers anymore. I also got into Northwestern and Duke, I should've just gone to one of them.
I missed the FREE Flu Shot Clinics on campus, and I've also checked out the student wellness portal, but it seems that they will only be offering flu shots again in January. Where should I go get my flu shot for this fall ( free is possible)
A bug went inside my room and I just finished spraying. Now I want to open my windows but I believe they're sealed. Does anyone know if windows are actually sealed in Max P? or am I just doing something wrong?
this is probably silly and a long shot, but a small colorful bird sticker fell out of my wallet about a half hour ago in the Mansueto library and it actually means a lot to me (my long distance boyfriend mailed it to me as part of a care package). if by any chance anyone on here comes across it, could you rescue it and DM me? i commute to and from the city so I can’t go back and check, and this has got me in a weird crying mess (residual midterm stress probably isn’t helping), so i would greatly appreciate it 🥺
I'm having a hard time with Linear Algebra (Math 15200) and could really use some help. If you know of any good online resources—whether it's websites, YouTube channels, or anything else—please share your suggestions! I’d also appreciate any recommendations for forums or platforms where I can ask specific questions.
My car's catalytic converter was sawed off sometime over Saturday night. I parked near 52nd and S Ellis. Did anyone have their cat stolen as well?. I'm really disappointed about safety in HydePark, the location I parked was very well lit and close proximity to apartment entrances as well.
I have a midterm this week and have confirmed time .5 with SDS. My professor told me the exam would be SDS proctored and would be taken elsewhere but I haven't received a location/proctor. Does anyone know how this works?
I’m looking for part-time student employment at UChicago. Would really appreciate if someone can connect me to the right place.
Currently an Econ major who's looking to get into entrepreneurship. I've been told picking up coding is a core skill - even if that's not what you specialize in.
What's the best path at UChicago to develop "useful" (non theoretical) coding knowledge for this goal? Would data science be better than CS?
Has anyone done this program by I-House? Was it worth it? Currently debating whether to stay on campus, but I’m not sure what there is to do during the break
Since coming to uchicago my car has been keyed once and hit like 3 times. I didn’t buy the most beautiful car but i’m not a fan of people destroying others’ property and not taking responsibility for it, especially when i keep it on campus.
I found another nice bump on my shittermobile today with no note (even a “sorry i hit your car, im a crap driver and can’t afford the damage sorry again buddy!” would have made me less annoyed).
I come from another major city and have never experienced the same level of apathy as i have here. Is this a uchicago thing? or is it a chicago thing? Why do people bring their cars to campus if they suck at driving?

Hello I broke my laptop still working but I need to repair my MacBook Pro, do you know if UChicago lend me some money to repair it? I am with financial aid? Or what options I have cause I don’t have money to repair it
I heard from a guy who’s mom is getting her MBA, that for a lot of people including his mom, getting an MBA from the university of Chicago is just way too expensive. I pointed put the median salary of $175K, and he said I was missing the point, that those people were probably all making a bunch of money, and that’s just a 25% to 50% increase in salary.
He says after considering car and house payments, she just couldn’t afford to go there even though she would make a lot more money.
Does this make sense?
Hey, I’m a 1st year odyssey scholar. Odyssey is supposed to cover the uship program, but the charge is still on my Bursar Bill. What should I do? Is it supposed to be covered by the stipend?
Are teachers going on strike?
Any college bodybuilders ard?
After I paid for my coffee the guy walked from the cashier to a back table and started stirring a pot chocolate syrup for seven minutes (presumably prepping for tomorrow) while I was standing there waiting. After giving no signal on his intention of making my order I told him saying I can’t wait indefinitely. He then reluctantly pressed a button on the espresso machine and made my order in less than a minute all while looking totally irritated.
What is wrong with this coffee shop?
And no my order does not contain any syrup so it’s not for my order that he’s stirring.
Lost a wallet on S University Ave, closer to the north side. It's brown with a UCID belonging to Henry Czarnecki on the inside
Hi all, I am currently a second year in accelerated analysis and was wondering if it is possible to start grad analysis my third year along with Honors Algebra? Or is it better to take undergrad measure theory, functional, and complex first and then do Grad Analysis along with possibly another grad sequence my forth year.
My only concern is that when I apply for PHD my forth year I wouldn't have like a grade yet for the grad classes. Thank you! Any advice would help!
I'm a second-year biology major hoping to specialize in endocrinology. I've heard great things about the Endocrinology I-III track, but the reviews of all the other electives sound dry from course reviews. I need to take two of these courses. Are there other courses beyond this limited set - grad courses, even - that could be successfully petitioned to count?
Hi! I will be TAing for the first time this quarter. I’m really excited about the role as it is for a subject I’m really passionate about. I have my own takeaways from when I was a student on what I want to do as a TA. But I just wanted to engage you all to get some tips if any. Thanks!
I hope to take the placement exam to see if I could start from CMSC 14300 in the spring. Does anybody have any idea/tip on how to prepare for it? Or could anybody share the syllabus for the course?
Hi I’m picking out classes for winter quarter. Very interested in phenomenology but haven’t been able to find a philosophy class on it. Any recommendations? Thanks
this monday (week 4) I was admitted into a civ study abroad program for winter 2025 after having been on the waitlist since last year (which I am planning to accept). because I thought I didn't get in, I had enrolled in HIPS (science civ) for the quarter. I really don't like the class, so even though I could continue taking it and exceed my civ requirement, I wanted to drop it. I met with my academic adviser and petitioned to have it dropped because of my circumstances and it was denied. thinking of withdrawing because I don't enjoy the class — does anyone have any insights/advice for me? I'm looking to apply to top PhD programs for STEM and I'm really nervous about making this decision.
Hello.
I am currently on a dental insurance plan that expires at the end of the year and I am looking to get a wisdom tooth extraction (some to all of them). I am trying to weight the costs and benefits of getting the procedure done under my current plan as opposed to waiting for the next enrollment window and trying to have it done under the university's insurance (most likely Delta Dental HMO). My understanding of this process is that I'd need to enroll, and then get a primary dentist, and then be referred out to a specialist, so I probably wouldn't see an oral surgeon until June 2025. Another factor is that there are no Delta in-network oral surgeons in Hyde Park, so I'd have to travel to South Loop or Downtown.
I am wondering if anyone has gotten a wisdom tooth extraction done under the university healthcare (specifically Delta HMO, but perspectives on the Metlife PPO would be useful too) and can share what the total costs ended up being.
My current insurance has quoted ~$300 copay per tooth, but I estimate it would cost more if they ended up anesthetizing me. However, there is an in-network oral surgeon in HP. My pain is mild but manageable, so I guess the primary benefit of doing the procedure sooner would be to get it over with.
Title. I was wondering if anyone has any info on how much aid is given to students admitted to the Advanced Scholars 4+1 program in general (including the 5k in scholarship they promised). FYSA, I am an Odyssey scholar at UChicago (low-income and international).
Has anyone taken this w Trevor price? Any tips on how to do well? A/A-??? Much appreciated.
I live in the building at 5341 South Woodlawn, and the fire alarm has been going off continuously for the past 30 minutes from 3pm. I went outside to check, but there doesn't seem to be any issue. Does anyone know what might be going on?
