Opinions On Forgeworld Realm Of Battle Tiles - Particularly The Crashed Thunderhawk?

Hello, All!

I’m new to 40K (just started last summer), and I just discovered the amazing Realm of Battle game boards that GW made over the years. While I think they are really cool and would be an awesome collection goal, I also know that they can be quite expensive to track down.

Which brings me to my current situation - I found a seller in my state that allegedly has the crashed Thunderhawk board for $400 USD (though I don’t yet know the condition). I’m curious to hear your thoughts on these boards - are they worth it for a modern collector to track down given the terrain rules for 10th Ed? If so, should I look into this board, even though the asking price is pretty high? I know that this board in particular is a kinda holy grail for some collectors and it can go WAY higher than that.

I’m curious to hear your thoughts - thanks for your time!

Starting out in 10th Edition

So I've decided I want to start getting into 40k (I've been playing other games like OPR, AoS etc). With the new free equipment I am worried about building models. I know bigger stuff can be magnetized but I want to still go wysiwyg for the troops. My concern is that if I put power weapons on everything, GW is going to soon change the free equipment thing and now I will have a bunch of sergeants with power weapons when I would probably want to save the points for other things. (Also I don't want to be bothered by magnetizing troop arms as that has been a pain when done in the past). What do you do in this situation? (Looking for personal preferences/experience to get ideas for making a decision for myself)

What would be a good few novels to dive into Whathammer40k?

I want to dive into it, but. I got "foundation" as a gift and I hated the pace of jumping from one event to the other, often with massive gap in the timeline, and with no specific character to follow. I know it’s well liked but I hated the format/pacing.

Any good suggestions to dive into warhammer40k and get a good gist of the universe, and then have novels with an actual story? In the more traditional sense, where you follow characters around instead of a record of events? Like, if you have official novels that are "AAA" and that falls within these criteria?

ChatGPT suggested Horus Rising to understand the lore and then Eisenhorn and Ravenor trilogies…

Is Lion El'Johnson The best or one of the best fighter/combatant?

Been reading a lot of Lore books, and many of the books always regards The lion being the best or one of the best combatants out of all of his brother Primarchs. I know 100% that the lion is not the physically strongest Primarch but is he considered to be one of the best combat wise?

Question about multiple leaders in a unit

In regards to a few genestealer cult leaders like the Biologus and the Locus their "Leader" description says you can attach this model to a GSC battleline unit even if a primus, Magus, or Acolyte Iconward is attached to that unit. Does this mean, for instance, I can attach both the Biophagus, and Locus to a 10 brick of acolytes with heavy mining weapons as long as I have one of the big 3 leaders in that unit, or can I only attach one of them?

Rustoleum black primer cracking

So I decided to try paint miniatures for the first time and it seems the primer cracked while drying. I’ve read this could because of cold weather or too thick of a coat but what other tips do you guys have. Also is there anyway to fix it? Thank you!

Unit gains character keyword?

Had someone tell me that when a leader is added to a unit the whole unit gains the character keyword?

I replied that wouldn't make any sense as it would mean precision would literally become meaningless.

Is there some truth to this? He claims it is for the purpose of how certain abilities target the unit. I'm too new of a player to have any hard knowledge of what he may be talking about but I don't see anything in the rules that would make this true.

Any one with more knowledge or insight as to if this is accurate?

New to the franchise looking for advice.

I have two questions sort of these are stupid questions or if this is the wrong sub. I’ve been thinking of getting into warhammer (mostly because Henry Cavill’s series for when it comes out). But I started by reading a bunch of love online. I want get into building armies but I’m kinda split between two and they are completely different but I like them for different reasons. On one hand I really like the thousand sons. I really like the juxtaposition of magic sorcerers in sci-fi. I also like how they look even though it would be difficult to paint them. I also like magnus’s story and believe he didn’t do anything wrong. I also really like the dark angels. I really like their lore. I like how they hire they are the go to for crazy alien wars. I also really like the inner circle stuff and the hunt for the fallen angels. And the idea for lion as a primarch is also really cool. I think the stoic and determined leadership is such a cool style for a primarch. Their overall super is ok too I guess. But I don’t know which I really want to go with. So I just want to hear opinions about which army you all would recommend. Also I was wondering if combat patrols are the easiest or best way to start?

Will these models ever be back in stock?

I really want my awesome centipede boy just to paint and use as a display piece or even to play with it if I want but I can't find one for a decent price

For those with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome yet still want to paint miniatures, I highly recommend a ball vice, it is truly life changing.

I think that the Emperor made Angron to be one of if not the best Primarch

Okay so hear me out, if he did not have the nails in his head I think he would have been the best Primarch, maybe even the original war master candidate.

Reason 1: he was one of if not the best fighters of the Primarchs. He was noted as being able to take on most of the primarchs pretty easily and being able to fight some of the better fighters to a standstill such as the Lion and Russ ( he even gave Sanguinius a run for his money)

Reason 2: he was actually a very good tactician. He was able to take on the high riders and there armies of thousands with just a few hundred ( at most ) starving and blood crazed slaves. Now mind you some of that was probably because he was a Primarch and also him being Angron but it still shows his intelligence. Most importantly though he did all that with his brain slowly falling apart and him going crazy so just imagine him without the nails. I think he would give Guilimon and Dorn a run for their money.

Reason 3: Maybe the most important reason at least to the Emperor is that Angron had his humanity and actually cared for the people around him. It was noted that before he got the nails he took the pain away from others and brought it upon himself and the whole reason he got the nails in the first place was that he refused to kill his father figure which really shows the lengths he was willing to go for the people around him. Humanity seems to be a really important thing to the Emperor because that was one of the main things he pointed out in Vulkon and why he was one of his favorites. Another example is that the Emperor hated having to give up his humanity to defeat Horus / not become the dark king.

So what do you think am I on to something or is all that paint drinking really getting to my head.

could someone explain the combat patrol magazine to me?

ok so I'm very new to Warhammer, I've got a few models then I hear about a combat patrol magazine, I'm in Australia so I'm sure that it'll be released way later, I've been searching and watching a bunch of videos but none of them really make sense, so the way I see it, I get a subscription from somewhere that ships me a magazine and a few models, is this good for someone who got the ultimate starter set and wants to build their tyrranids/ space marine armies?

thanks

An attempt to make deathwing knights a bit more dynamic

I like the shields and the "immovable object" vibe they had going, but I wanted to try and make mine look like they were wading deep into the enemy, hacking as they go
