Seriously, you all want to get dinner on Saturday?

Crazy that I have more friends in different parts of the world than where I consider home since 2014. Granted, my friends were always international students and I am in and out of the US. When traveling, I arrive at a hostel or coliving, go to the common room, ask everyone if they are down to get lunch or dinner, and make lasting friends. Here, I go out of the house, see groups, and ask myself why I am in such big groups when I am anywhere else but here. Seriously, let me know

Anybody have a medium powered telescope I could borrow or wants to run an experiment with

Trying to prove to the kid I tutor’s dad that the earth is not flat. Want to prove to him that from East beach you will not be able to see the bottom of the islands aka where the mountains meet the land/sea due to the earth’s curvature (even thinking that if we set up the telescope on a life guard tower enough vantage point to get over the peak of waves but not high enough where it would be greater than the curvature)

Lmao

I could be wrong (maybe this experiment is flawed) but yeah

Any telescopes or other tools and advice to execute this experiment would be awesome

Sprouts Goleta Butcher Case Empty?

Anyone know why Sprouts butcher case was totally purged? Their packaged meats section was pretty sparse too. Tried to find a person to ask but everyone was busy.

Halloween questions

Hey, I just moved here about a month ago and Google is not being helpful. Is trick or treating tonight? Where I'm from cities would post a notice about when trick or treating would happen with a time frame but I'm not seeing something like that here.

Also, is there anything else I should know about Halloween, or really any other holidays since I'm new to town?

Edit: trick or treating wouldn't always happen on Halloween back in iowa, mostly it seemed like they tried to avoid having kids begging for candy after dark on Fridays and Saturdays but occasionally it'd be on a different night when Halloween fell on a weeknight too.

Best time to drive?

Making a trip to San Diego tomorrow and am curious what time in the morning you think there would be the least amount of traffic for the entire trip?

There is a helicopter flying over the south of Hollister neighborhood (Walnut and San Lorenzo) apparently on a search of some sort. Anyone know anything about this?

What do the people of Santa Barbara want?

I have yet to find employment after moving here, and am looking to satisfy my industrious nature.

What kind goods, or food, or services do you find yourself wanting in the downtown area, but cannot find?

I am want to sell something that the people need so I can earn my own money in good conscience.

I have experience in cooking, working with computers, and some artistic talents.

Thanks in advance

Edit:
The vibes I'm getting are:
A "third place" open until 11PM, which also sells burgers (the burger sales aspect is not a legally incorporated business), and has a small bowling alley. You don't have to pay to be there, except on saturday nights when we have punk shows. On the Lord's day, the burgers will be replaced by imitation chik-fil-a

Oat Bakery - Is it possible to get something shipped?

I visit SB once a year for work and I am obsessed with the Cheese Louise crackers (and pretty much everything there). When I visited last week, they were out. Does anyone know if you can get their products shipped? I didn't see anything on their website or Instagram about it

Are people still celebrating Halloween this weekend downtown?

Serious question here. 😂 I’m undecided if I should dress up or not.

Airport noise question

Hi everyone, I'm thinking of renting near the northeast side of More Mesa. I see that there's been a fair amount of complaints in Goleta about the noise bc of the proximity to the airport in the past, and I don't want to be one of the people that ends up complaining even though the info is out there.

So I did some digging and looked at the flight lines. Seems like the planes landing on the east/west runway are the big noisy boys, and they fly more or less right over that area if they dont follow the noise abatement path, which I get that they cant always do bc of safety reasons. But on the other hand, the noise analysis from 2020 labeled the region NE of more mesa as less than 40dB, which seems very low. And what data is out there from simulations done in 2023 only goes down to the 60dB level, with no regions for <60 at all. In short, I don't know what conclusions to draw from the data, particularly bc it doesn't look like they measure peak noise, which is all I would actually care about at night. Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone knows how bad the noise from landings is in that area, particularly late at night/early in the morning. Thanks!

Santa Barbara Half Marathon

Hey all! I have family that will be coming to watch me run the SB half marathon on Sunday. From people that attended last year, where should I recommend that they park? They're able to walk, so doesn't have to be super close to the course, but hoping they can avoid some traffic which I heard was a challenge last year. Any advice would be appreciated!
