Im going for the fully online program compsci at sbcc. I'm wondering what the classes are like taking any of the fully online programs since there will be no live lessons with instructors. Will it just be a lot of reading, or will there be videos? I just transferred from a fully online uni that was all reading, and I found it so difficult. Thanks
Hi, I am an international student and I have just applied to SBCC. It is my dream school, but I definitely do not have good grades compared to others, as I only have about a 2.1 GPA, LOL I know...
Has anyone with a low GPA gotten into SBCC?
I heard the acceptance rate is very high for all students and the minimum is 2.0.
Just in time for Memorial Day, the website: "50 Great Public Land Destinations -- Santa Barbara and Beyond" https://50greatpubliclanddestinations.org/ -- has been updated and expanded! For my "Public Lands and Waters" class at UCSB, I created this site to help my students, as well as others, discover amazing public land areas -- of all kinds -- within 300 miles of Santa Barbara. The new updates enhance significantly the number of areas to explore, because each of the featured 50 Destinations now has additional links to nearby hikes, campgrounds, and/or other special public land areas. As one person emailed me: "This website offers a treasure trove of adventure and so many hidden gems." Natural, historic, community, recreational and cultural locations are included. Enjoy! (And there are no ads, whatsoever.)
Hi Everyone,
I have been working for some time now on this website ratemycourses.io and I am really excited to share it with you.
You can use this to look at reviews and get advice on courses you're interested in. You can also sort courses by difficulty, usefulness and the overall rating from reviews made by other students. I think if enough people start using it regularly. it's going to be essential when you're choosing your electives or just to get advice on courses you will be taking.
Lastly, filtering and sorting courses is only gonna be useful and accurate if there are a lot of reviews, so please go ahead and leave some reviews to courses you've taken or are currently taking.
Also, please dm me if you have an idea on how I can let more students know about this. And if anyone is interested in writing an article about this dm me!
Enjoy!!
Hey guys. I need help deciding where to go for college. I'm between here and UVM. I'm def more of a California, fun in sun person compared to snowboarding and stuff. My gut feeling leans towards SBCC because of the area. But I'm unsure about housing/finding roomates and whether it would be good for me to attend a 2 year institution instead of a 4 year one. Also my major is env engineering. What are the general people like? Is it pretty diverse?
Hey guys, I’m an incoming freshman to SBCC and I’m currently trying to work through the application process. I’ve gotten as far as needing to setup a date to watch a class planning webinar, but now I’m having issues with my pipeline account. When I try to click on the students tab and navigate to the registration link in order to find the date I should schedule my meeting near, it brings me to a page with the link “banner.sbcc.edu”, and claims it’s unable to load the page. I’m thinking the website may have crashed with all of the traffic I’d imagine it’s being subjected to, however I’m curious as to whether anyone else might know. Thanks!
Hi! I'm international student coming back to study at SBCC this fall. I used to live in IV in 2014-2016 in CBC and The Sweeps. Now I want to live in SB. I need single room, beach city sold out all the singles. My question is where I can live? Any recommendation where I can lease a single room will be super helpful.
If there's any Indonesian students here that would like to run for PERMIAS SB (Indonesian student association - SB county), please send me a message :)
When I log on to starfish to make an appointment with a counselor, my academic counselor has literally 0 availability. Not just limited availability, but absolutely no dates or times to make an appointment at all, no matter how many months off in the future I look.
If this is the case, how am I supposed to figure out what I need to do to transfer and all the other questions I have that are specific to my situation. Is there an alternative way to make an appointment with a SBCC counselor?
Hi everyone, I'm a UCSB student but I'm likely taking a couple SBCC classes this summer to knock out some prereqs. I'm looking at MATH 200 during summer I and since it says the class is totally online, should I also assume that it's asynchronous?
I’m not sure if this is the right place for this but I’m considering going to SBCC this fall and would likely live at Beach City if so. How do people find roommates here? Any insight is appreciated.
I’m a little confused as to why several of my professors think it’s okay to give assignments due the week of spring break? I have so many to do that I won’t have any time off. Might as well remove spring break all together.
Looking to get my Brows and some other waxing needs done ive heard amazing things about dolled.up.brows and checked her Instagram everything looks good anybody been to her? Her prices. Are fair just want to know has anyone been before?
I’m a senior in HS and have been thinking about UCSB for some time now. I don’t think it is very likely that I’ll get in, though, so I have turned to SBCC as another option with the intent of transferring to UCSB after my 2 years. How common is that here? What would my chances of getting into UCSB be? I want to focus my energy on a 4-year college if there’s a low shot of me actually ending up at UCSB.
Hello! I am a sophomore at SBCC and am looking for a Korean Language Tutor. I would love to pay you to help me!
Thanks. Please DM me if you are interested or know someone who may be.
Hi friends! I’m planning on transferring to either the Tropicana del Norte housing, or the Tropicana gardens housing. If anyone here lives in one of those units, could you recommend which one is better? What are the differences between the two? Thank you!
Hi,
I’m studying at another community college with a notoriously difficult physics department. I was thinking about taking PHYS 121~123 at SBCC instead but couldn’t find much info.
How is the quality and difficulty? GPA is my top priority since I’m looking to transfer but wouldn’t mind learning.
Thanks!

You could participate in the UMBC YouthFirst Lab’s research study and receive a $10 Amazon gift card for completing a 45-minute survey online. Some participants are randomly selected to also participate in a 5-6 hour follow-up virtual visit (reimbursement of $80). The purpose of the study is to understand how social life, thoughts, and culture affect emotional and psychological experiences in adolescents and young adults.
Eligible participants meet the following:
16-30 years of age
Live in and are currently located in California
Willing to provide contact information
Please leave a comment below noting your interest to receive the link to participate. Alternatively, you may contact maps-youthfirstlab@umbc.edu if you have any questions.
Note: If you have a child between 16-17 years old, they are eligible for the study provided that a parent/guardian completes the initial part of the survey with them, including the consent form.
I was supposed to meet my friend on campus today but that didn’t work out. I definitely need to meet other students and make friends so if anyone wants to study together I’m on campus today!! I’m outside the cafeteria (near the campus store/Starbucks).
I’m currently out of state and just want to get opinions on the housing in SB. Is coral group or beach city any good? I’m not seeing too many reviews on either, just a lot about Isla Vista. And is iv worth living in despite how expensive it is? Thanks!!
I’m taking a few classes here in my time off from UCSB. I’ve made a pipeline account and completed the online orientation. I can’t find any dates for when I can start enrolling in Spring 2022 courses. I’d appreciate any help, thanks.
I know they have those healthy check in tables, will I need to show a campus ID or just my green check mark from the survey
