How often are off leash dogs a problem here?

Hi everyone! I just moved here a week ago and so far it's been amazing!

But, I have a reactive rescue dog who I walk twice a day. She wears a basket muzzle (never bitten another dog and loves people, it's just for peace of mind and as a bonus it keeps other dog owners from running right up to us) and I work with her on our walks and park visits to help her feel safe and keep her well away from other dogs so she doesn't hit her reactivity threshold. She's doing amazing here so far and we love living in a nice area for walks and parks.

Today my husband and I went to University Glen Park and it was completely empty, so I let her off leash in the dog park. While she checked it out I was watching the park entrance. Another owner came walking towards us from across the field a few minutes in, so I called my girl over immediately and started leashing her up so we could exit the dog park and head back to the open area before they got to the park. But this guy had his frenchie fully off leash and it came running straight up to the park fence, where it took my other dog's toy (my husband had him on a leash in the open area right outside the dog park) and ran off with it, completely ignoring his owner telling him to come and causing a barking/pulling reaction from my dog. She did better than she has in the past, but still reacted. The owner apologized to my husband, but when I asked nicely if they'd mind giving us a little space to get my girl out of the park so they could have it, the guy refused and had an attitude about it.

I don't know why he would mind but I just did my best with my dog and she settled down as soon as we got some distance. My only goal is to help my dog and keep everyone involved safe. This guy obviously didn't know what he was doing with his dog (or care about his dog's safety, I guess). How often are leash law violations a problem in Camarillo parks? Are there any parks I should seriously avoid?

Until 9 PM tonight (Monday, April 22, 2024), the Camarillo Ranch Foundation (which operates the Camarillo Ranch House!) is having a fundraiser at the Habit Burger Grill!

You must present the flyer (linked below), either as a hard-copy or an image on your phone, when you see a Habit employee to order/pick up your food for the CRF to get money from your order.

The Habit has also requested people to order either online or by phone if it's possible.

Flyer and more details on the CRF website: https://camarilloranchfoundation.com/event/crf-fundraiser-at-the-habit-burger-grill/

ELI5: Why are there no Cannabis stores in Camarillo?

New to the area. It’s 420 why do I have to drive out of Camarillo for Cannabis? Consider that the Glass House mega grow is here. Shouldn’t we have better access to Cannabis?

Volunteer Restoration Opportunity at Fillmore Fish Hatchery

Hello everyone!

I am a Corpsmember with the Watersheds Stewards Program, and I am partnering with Channel Islands Restoration and Friends of the Santa Clara River to host a volunteer event aiming to improve habitat quality for the federally threatened Southern Steelhead Trout. The event is on April 28th, 2024, from 8:30am-12:30pm on the Sespe Cienega Nature Trail at the Fillmore Fish Hatchery, in Fillmore, CA.

I am seeking volunteers for the event as this will be a great way to learn about the environment, give back to the community, and celebrate Earth Day! The event will include an educational component regarding ethnobotany and native species in local watersheds. There will also be snacks and a raffle for an REI gift card.

More information is available using the QR code on the flyer or this link https://forms.gle/oVaz49orfRLb7yC59 and I am happy to answer any questions. Thanks redditors!

Summer Job positions?

Hi, I am a college student that’s going to be back in town from mid may to mid august. I have worked in food industry before but I would be open to working almost anywhere. Do you have any suggestions of places that would hire for only the summer term? Thanks!

Have almost a full day of downtime, looking for stuff to do

Hey all, I have a wedding I'm attending this Friday, but I'll be in Camarillo for basically 8 hours with nothing to do.

I'm looking for recommendations. I've found a couple places I'm probably going to check out like Asahi Market in Oxnard, there's a board game store, Zander's Game House, that I'm going to swing by. Are there other places like this that you have been to that you recommend? I love Asian/Japanese markets, cool nerd shit, might just catch a movie so if you have a theater you prefer, etc.

Thank you!

Air Hockey Table

My kids are doing the Easter egg scavenger hunt that the parks department is holding. They've posted clues to the locations of some of the eggs in the form of photos on their website. In most of the photos there is a business name that's visible, but there's one showing an air hockey table next to a wall with the rolling stones logo on it. We're relatively new to the area and I'm not sure where this is. Can anyone point us in the right direction? Thanks.

Cost of living

Hi all, somewhat of a rant / concern / seeking advice.

My husband and I will be moving here this summer, simply due to my husband being stationed up here. The prices are absolutely insane!! We’re moving from San Diego where there’s so much more city but the cost is better/fairly comparable. What is up with that? There are apartments that have nothing going for them costing 3k+ and some with so much space and parking for less. I’m so confused by this. In SD we pay 21hundred.

Any area recommendations?

Visiting soon, need hotel and bar recommendations

I am 40 and want a nice bar to visit with my friends when we come down to Camarillo (we are all married and not looking to meet new people). I am willing to drive 1 hour outside of Camarillo for the bar.

Recommendations please and thank you.

I assume I can find a hotel near the bar once we find it.

Missing Friend, please share

💙Clark James Helm💙 Here’s a few things we do know. Clark James left his house on Jan 9th without an overnight bag, without camping gear, or anything. If he has answered anyone’s call or text please contact the VCSO Camarillo Station at (895) 654-9511 or pm myself or Matt Helm. Clark left everything behind The only things he has are his phone and his black Volvo sedan. Clark always checks in with his brother ALWAYS!! Please stay vigilant in our search for our son. We Thank You all for the hard work everyone is doing. Serious inquiries are always appreciated. 💙

Camarillo Game Community

Hi, my name is Chay Comas and I keep record of tabletop gaming opportunities, clubs, events, and community networks on the Central Coast of California and publish them into a tidy newsletter that I call -- The Central Coast Game Community Newsletter

Excerpt

Seeing as the holiday season is over now, everyone is probably looking to get their game group schedule started back up, or find a gaming group to get started with finally after hearing about it from your brother in law non stop over Christmas.

So I’m packing into this everything you need to connect with gamers near you, some exciting announcements, and maybe even some hints at what 2024 has in store later this year.

So if you're a gamer, or you've ever been interested in Dungeons & Dragons, Pokemon, Warhammer, or another tabletop game, this is your portal.

Weird sound 1AM

So tonight about 1:07AM I heard a LOUD clap, almost like thunder. Then a low but fairly loud rumbling sound, like how running water sounds through the wall. Definitely coming from outside. I’m near ACHS in Camarillo. This happened the other night too, a few days ago I don’t remember exactly which day. After about ten minutes on both occasions the sound subsided in a very strange way..

Has anyone else heard this sound?? I’m trying not to be scared about it, it’s very upsetting. Does anyone know the source of the sound, or have any ideas? Please help

Recs on moving?

Deciding on where to live with our toddler, pup, and us lucky parents :). We are looking for Recs on safe, kid-friendly, quiet, neighborhoods. Is Camarillo a good fit? I’ve heard Village at the Park might be good, but not sure if it’s noisy/not kid friendly. Open to any recs!

Power Outages

Our power went out last night, which feels like a frequent occurrence since I moved towards the middle of town a year ago. I used to live over by the Roxy theater and never had to deal with this frequency of outages. Is this a thing that has been just happening a lot this year or is that the norm?

Guess I'm updating the sidebar to specifically tell people that this is NOT a dating/hookup site

Dear fellow Camarillans,

Like you, I've noticed a significant uptick in posts that are specifically asking for dating opportunities in our area, and I do genuinely apologize for not keeping up with the influx like a good mod should.

Moving forward I will be updating r/camarillo's sidebar to let people know that any and ALL posts asking for dates/whatever WILL be removed on sight, no ifs, ands, or buts.

Hopefully I can rid us of this plague to some extent.

Sincerely,

TheFreshWenis

From 5:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Tuesday, November 14th (tomorrow), CSU skilled workers will be picketing at the corner of University Drive and parking lot A3 at CSUCI.

Basically, CSU skilled workers are holding a one-day strike/picket at most of the CSU campuses, including CSUCI, on Tuesday, November 14th (tomorrow), to protest being screwed over in both pay/benefits/working conditions and in negotiations since the start of the COVID shutdowns, all while CSU students continue to see very significant tuition and fee hikes.

I am personally planning to join the picket line, as I found out about this strike/picket from the Democratic Socialists of America-Ventura County chapter, and it appears that the public can join the picket line to support the striking workers.
